Why exactly is the television needed?

I guess... the developers came back and had to alter to game so you could play it in 3D. A 3D TV automatically lets you view all content in 3D regardless of whether the movie/game supports it?
Sony makes much higher quality products than your average TV company. Parasomniac
Yes keep trying to believe that.

It's true. Sony makes high quality products. I'm not saying their products are all so much better than everyone else's, but compared to most other companies, their products are better.

He didnt say Sony makes the best tvs ever. He said they make higher quality products than your average TV company. Which is absolutely true.Batman AA's 3D mode uses old-school red and blue glasses. The TV will have the image for the left eye in one color, and the image for the right eye in the other color.
3D TV's work by quickly alternating between the left eye/right eye images at a rate of around 240 times a second. The TV's come with special shutter glasses that are synchronized with the TV, and will close either the left or right eye so that each only sees its intended image.
So is thetechnology similar to what Nvidia is offering with 3D Vision on the PC ?Batman AA's 3D mode uses old-school red and blue glasses. The TV will have the image for the left eye in one color, and the image for the right eye in the other color.

3D at a theatre every now and again is ok, but constantly watching 3D is no good for you as it effects your depth perception. Also After watching Avatar in 3D im over the whole 3D thing

They are made by Sony and thus charge a premium of >$500 for the same product that you can get from a competitor brand[QUOTE="MizFitAwesome"][QUOTE="Parasomniac"]Sony makes much higher quality products than your average TV company. That may apply to televisions but certainly not to the PlayStation and the PlayStation 2.

Read the post that I quoted. It wasn't about televisions but products in general.

I really really hope 3D doesn't take off. Damn you James Cameron...damn you...

it wont. People were hesitant of buying HDTVs, you honestly think theyre going to want to buy ANOTHER TV so soon?

That's my thought. I think 3D is the biggest gimmick to ever hit the entertainment industry. I hate it so much.
That movie annoyed me. I watched it in 3D at IMAX and then just normally at IMAX and there is a massive amount of detail (picture quality wise) you miss out on because your focusing on the 3D which becomes "meh" after 20 mins inI really really hope 3D doesn't take off. I actually have no problem with motion controls as long as it doesn't become the only way of gaming. I feel like the PC will be a good shield against that. I should've been more specific and said the movie industry though. That's still saying a lot. The movie industry has come up with a lot of crappy ideas to gain audience interest.
Sonys 3D TVs have the greatest picture and quality just as their Bravias are known to be the best there is.
Sony makes much higher quality products than your average TV company. ParasomniacBut Sharp makes the best TV's and Sony's quality has been dropping like mad lately, in both stereo systems, Tv's, and yes even consoles.

PhazevarianceBut Sharp makes the best TV's and Sony's quality has been dropping like mad lately, in both stereo systems, Tv's, and yes even consoles. actually toshiba with their new regza are tied with sharp because of their brilliant colours and the ability to not change colour or shade when you look at the tv from an odd angle. sony was almost never number because of sharp's dominance.
Im always glad to see new cool tech come out but damn i just bought a new 42 inch 1080p sony not even a month ago,now im gonna have to go out and get a 3d tv?It all seems cool but shouldnt they wait til hd becomes the standard before throwing a 3d tv at us.At this point im sure a lot of people have hd televisions but are they ready to go out and pay big bucks for another tv with 3d.Like i said i love new technology and i always want the latest and greatest its just i wish they would wait a while before throwing a new tv on the market.

'Twas a joke? I don't know, nor care. 3D TV's strike me as a waste of money. 3D gaming can suck it, honestly. (as can motion controls)There is a difference in how each technology "fools" the brain into thinking the image being viewed is in 3 dimmensions.
Active shutter technology allows the 3D image to be in much higher resolutions than anaglyph 3D.
With active shutter, seperate images for each eye is displayed in full 1080p.
With anaglyph 3D there are two images (red & green) taken at slightly different angles.
