What factors are required for the PS3 to Overtake the Xbox360 by the end of '09?

There seems to be a bit of talk around here about PS3 one day overtaking the Xbox360 but the actual date is still in debate

so let's forecast then...

Cows and Lemmings get out your weapons of facts and figures and backup these points and by all means add some valid ones as well that have to do with this issue. i.e. opinions, personal tastes,Wii and PC's out the door, please.

The Xbox360 is what?

25 million consoles worldwide?

The Ps3 is 18 million worldwide?

Can any fanboys please get the most recent uptodate sales figures, please.

Everyone know that the Xbox360 is in the lead vs Ps3.

an estimate of around 5 million give or take a few hundred thousand

what factors will it take for the PS3 to come out top at the end of

'09

1. The Xbox360 sells dismally for the next 12 months.

2.The Ps3 has a great price drop at a very competitive price to really spur sales

3The are killer exclusive games on the Ps3 like GT5, GOW and Killzone 2(A good chance it might turn out good)

4.Multiplatform games turn out better on the PS3 like DLC, games coming out earlier if developers choose to write for the PS3 first, multiplat games look and play better- which should reinforce the general consensus PS3 is the place to be for Multiplats

5.Games have more better support online service with the free PSN to actually be better than Xbox60's paid Live

6.and since the trend is if PS3 is outselling Xbox360 how actually long or on average how many units a month does the PS3 have to sell to overtake the Xbox360. Is it possible- will there be any spikes in sales that would truly move the console to sell 5-7 million in one year?

It will happen if the 360 suddenly stops selling. There's no way in hell the Ps3 can gain the lead in overall sales in just one year.killerfist

if the do these things they may start selling like the wii but i cant see that ever going down within a time frame where they would wow the consumers

Well ff13 Versus was just confirmed for09 so i think that alone, I mean Infamous, KZ2, WKC, FF13 Versus and Uncharted 2, if those all come in 09 PS3, has pretty much got the year on lock down, seeing as I down play salesAnimal-Mother

and of course sony drop the price by 30-50 bux :P but i think it'll happen at the end of 2009...2010 maybe? 3000?

If the PS3 dropped price to a $150 model and a $200 model right now, had a surprise January 09 release of DQX, FFVII remake, Chrono Sequel, FFXIII and a superior version of the upcoming Monster Hunter, (all of this to dominate the Japanese market of course), and also surprise releases of MGS5, Team Ico title and a new GTA all exclusive, along with the real world games in the 09 line up then yes the PS3 would easily surpass the 360.

That said there is no way in hell it will ever happen.

Really dude? I know I saw POP with PS3 logo at end many many times. Soame with svr09 and I saw other games that switch from 360 logo at end to PS3 logo at end.

Sony can't lower the price point of the PS3 by the amount you are after as it costs too much to manufacture - I bet that's largely due to the blu-ray player.

However, lets say Sony lower the price, Microsoft have plenty of scope to respond.

What Sony really need to prevent is Microsoft starting to gain a foothold in Japan. If that happens the sales gap will get wider.

Never going to happen in '09 unless....
