A lot of times reboots are unnecessary and don't work but then sometimes reboots can be the best thing ever for a franchise. So Forum, what franchise should get a reboot?

RE needs to become something reminiscent of past games. It needs to go back to enclosed areas with nonlinear gameplay, strategic resource management, and it needs to implement other ways of tackling situations than just firepower - in participation with less ammo (so that you have to utilize an unconventional method to survival). I think a great movement RE to go in would be towards simply giving the player more options.
Also, less muscle porn, more vulnerable heroes. Less sunlight, more things lurking in the darkness, behind doors, etc. A return to atmosphere.
resident evil, i loved 5, but those controls jesus its like i was transported back to resident evil 2
still i think this series needs a revival
I still hope for a Killer Instinct reboot, but the new Mortal Kombat looks to be a pretty good substitution. Otherwise, i'd like to see ...

I think that's definitely where they need to go. Ultimately, something is going to be lost from the original games no matter what due to the fact that some of their charm came from the some of the "outdated" aspects of the games. But a middle ground would definitely be a step forward. You can still emphasize survival horror moments with an RE4 like gameplay style; It just has to be done in a way that doesn't overemphasize the use of headshots (perhaps by giving a strategic reason for shooting the torso and having headshots only result in heads exploding 10% of the time).
In RE4 there is a portion where you're chased by a monster within a falling cargo crate area that seemed very survival horror to me. It was a boss fight that not only could easily fit in with the older games, but emphasized "survival" in a greater way. If the series could move in that direction and actually improve upon the basics of the gameplay in such a way, the series would have a greater chance of returning to being something unique and special, rather than tired and worn out.
I think Donkey Kong. Not another Country game, but a new game on it;s own, completely different and 3D.

You there. I saw what you did.

On topic: Reboots are dangerous. They can severely separate a fanbase, kind of like what happened with the transition from Resident Evil 3/Outbreak to Resident Evil 4/5. The developer is better off creating a new IP then to "experiment" with an existing one.
RE series... Since RE4 , Resident evil franchise lost its appealing to many oldschoolers even with praising , they stick to formula at RE5 where RE5 was fro most people ( veterans ) worst RE game since RE1 on PSone. They really need a reboot to find again their way because they made RE an action horror shooter with "alien" feeling when RE was a survival/horror with some adventure attributes( mostly puzzles ) with "zombie" ala ROMERO feeling. Capcom said they will reboot the series , the question is : Will stick to something like "alien" shooter or will change it entirely to something else.? Lets see.A lot of times reboots are unnecessary and don't work but then sometimes reboots can be the best thing ever for a franchise. So Forum, what franchise should get a reboot?
Raiden004
A SWAT reboot would be the worst. They'd make it a corridor shooter.I'd like to see a new SWAT or Thief game for sure.

It doesn't need a reboot in my opinion, but I feel very strongly that it needs meaningful changes. It's really in danger of stagnation right now.Zelda. Badly in need of a reboot, each game looks exactly the same and it's getting very dull.
Rekunta
Power Stone
Freelancer
Dynamite Cop
Gunbird
Hydro Thunder
Shenmue
Black & White
I think this gen seriously lacks these kind of games, unless I'm not looking hard enough.

Define reboot. What I mean is that they should scrap everything except the core concept and take all else back to the drawing board. Gut it, reevaluate everything, build it from the ground up....like a reinvention, similar to what RE 4 and Metroid Prime did. Each game is just too similar, and I think it's long past becoming stagnant.

What if they take RE's foundation - biological warfare, conspiracies, and survival horror ... and start over? I mean, an actual "reboot." It wouldn't have the same characters, it wouldn't play out the same way, and it wouldn't necessarily even start out in a secret lab under a mansion.
Sort of like Xenosaga is to Xenogears.
No matter what they do, I think they need to introduce a cast of all new characters, rather than going back to previous ones.

This, altough i enjoyed Resi 4/5, they just dont compare to Resi 1 - 3+ Code Veronica. I bought my GC last gen for Resi 0 and the remakes.
I thought it said which franchise needs a Robot ... I'm dissapointed.

I was about to make a thread, but then I realized I'd be moderated.
Yeah, I definitely agree with Resident Evil.
Oh and Im a big fan of 3D Sonic games, and they definitely need a reboot. Sega should just give the IP to Rare or Insomniac or someone, and go here make Sonic adventure 3 with no crappy gimmicks. Would be awesome.
would love to see a Legacy of Kain reboot. It's been what, 7 years since the last one? Underrated series, would be amazing if they gave it a next-gen polish.
I think Devil May Cry needs some creative juices injected into it.
GreySeal9
Agreed. It needs some consistancy too
Dino Crisis.
They could do somthing really bad ass withit thisgen the new resident evil mechanics are more suited to Dino Crisis.
I think any franchise that has had 3 games out, and is continuing the same storyline, needs a reboot. I mention the same story line because the GTA series technially has 7 or 8 versions out there but because the story and city are different each time, it is a different game. But how many other games in an aging seriesare really just the same old game retread over and over?
I totally agree with those that mention the Resident Evil series, after what they did with Resident Evil 5 Capcom really needs to bring this franchise back to the survival horror genre instead of a third person shooters especially considering the amount of shooters compare to survival horror out there.
