When we all played ocarina of time many years back, we knew that it wasa standout experience. I dont know if back then though i said to myself "Golly, this game is so good i think we should officially name it best game ever and talk about for decades to come"

We dont quite know during a generation what game will become the one that represents the best this gen had to offer, what game will become the one that first comes to mind when THAT SPECIFIC GEN is mentioned. Our gen isnt over yet, and there may be a game that tops everything we have played so far

BUT, based on what games have come out this gen, name that ONE GAME you think will be coverboy for this generation when we look back with nostalgia 10 years from now. Im interested in what you guys come up with

It must have the title of biggest disappointment and vaporware but it seems SE wants to take the vaporware title with vs13.

OBVIOUSLY! haha... Well perhaps the coverboy for the WORST this gen had to offer. It definitely is a shoe in for that

Obviously THIS. But seriously, I expect the Mass Effect series. 1 & 2 have both had such amazing sci-fi endings that I dropped my jaw during both cutscenes. If not Mass Effect then Assassins's Creed, Uncharted, Gears of War come to mind. And of course there's Skyrim.

Bioshock

I think personally that that is the strongest candidate, its such a unanimously loved and respected game, not many other games this gen have had the same amount of praise. Other close candidates? im thinking super mario galaxy, portal 2, skyrim, and im gonna extrapolate and say GTAV might end up being in this category. But i wont be too hasty to bet on that yet

Uncharted, Mass Effect, and Assassins Creed have been the three pretty much hugest new IPs this gen, i wouldnt call them UNANIMOUSLY loved tho, not quite like ocarina was or bioshock currently is

The game that has had the most impact on the market to me at least is Monster Hunter. To argue that as some will I'm sure. You have to understand without Monster Hunter the PSP wouldn't exists, I myself would have got about half the use out of my Wii, and the 3DS well I'm sure Mario kart gave it some ground would not have sky rocketed like that in Japan. If the Vita had monster Hunter right now.... Oh things would be different. Other mentions of course are CodMW as it sells to people that like it, not me. Mario Galaxy 2, them perfect scores for the rating whores, and Demon Souls an No More heros for being the 2 best games released in a long time. I'm sure there are more notables, but when I look back its hard to look past PC DS an Wii to see anything on PS3 or 360.

Nah, I don't think Bioshock can take the title for 1 reason: there are SO MANY PEOPLE who have NOT PLAYED this game. most of my PS3 friends had never even heard of it until I told them about it. The game is wonderful, but the attention it got was less than it needed.

Gears of War because it popularized (not invented of course) the cover based shooting system that so many other games copied soon after.

well i think i can understand your reasons. Mainly its because most people consider it a perfect blend of both very tight and fluid gameplay and very deap, detailed, artful, immersive setting. I think alot of other games have achieved that blend as well, but for some reason it really does seem bioshock is the one called out the most often for achieving it.

the story and setting are great. i love the universe and infinite looks great but the shooting was kinda boring. plasmids were cool but it wasn't enough to keep me interested. im going to beat that damn game one day though lol

This gen will mostly be remembered for the Red Ring of Death.

It will go down as one of the biggest fails in gaming history.

No single game seems to stand out much, perhaps Gears.

It will be something overrated for sure. At this rate it's looking to be Skyrim. It's a great game. I even love it at times but damn does it have some big problems, especially on PS3.

The Official Posterboy for the Current Generation will be CoD4: Modern Warfare... doesn't mean it's the best game of this generation, but it will go down in gaming history as the grand-daddy of the most widely played online console shooters of the current gen...

Probably COD4. A number of publications gave their game of the decade to World of Warcraft for similar reasons as to why Modern Warfare would be remembered as such.

Mass Effect? Bioshock? Uncharted 2?

Surely it will be something along those lines. If I had to take a stab at it, I'd place my bets on Mass Effect as a series that kind of tells the story of what happened in gaming this gen. It's got the sales, the critical acclaim, and the gameplay/story appeal to call it this gen's coverboy.

to be honest, i think mass effect is the best IP we got this entire gen. To me at least. What is a shame is the reality of how little people play it still. Alot of people play it, but definitely not as many as you would first think considering how cinematic and high caliber the games are. Most of the people i know either never heard of it or never cared to try it. Those that i know that have tried it only like Mass Effect 1 and think Mass Effect 3 is looking generic. Its a shame, its such a wonderful franchise
