The most snubbed game imo was Silent Hill 2 Remake. I know it’s a Remake, but even in today’s market, it really stands out. Best horror game, very immersive, amazing story and characters and overall environments. You truly feel a part of James’ experience.

Runner up is FF7 Rebirth. They improved on the first one in just about every area. It’s the complete package of an RPG, and you truly care about the story and the characters. Can’t say I felt that way about Metaphor.

What about you, SW?

Silent Hill 2 Remake for sure. They knocked it out of the park, minus David Duchovny, which is a travesty, but you can change it with a mod.

The game is a slow-burning nightmare that progresses into sickening outright psychodrama, and eventually leaves you in the oddly overcast ninth circle of hell.

I dig that kinda thing.

i tried silent hill 2 remake and just couldn't get into it. it's a very slow start and i didn't think it did a good job of drawing you into the story and mystery (haven't played the originals). the gameplay felt a bit rough and rudimentary too. just didn't tickle me. had to park it.

not sure if it's snubbed exactly, maybe more slept on or overlooked, but for me it's wukong.

feels like there's only three people on the forum who've played it, and every one of us say its their goty. hope more people give it a shot.

it takes a bit of time to sink its teeth into you, and there's a few niggles early on (invisible walls being one), but once it grips you, everything is forgiven and it opens up into something very special. not arsed about its cultural significance (full credit to game science for making a billion dollars from a $40m game though), all i care about is how it plays as a game, and wukong is a hell of a game

Totally understandable. Yeah, Silent Hill (the Team Silent games, 1-4), are, and always will be, niche. You can enjoy the games on whatever level, but to really, really click with them, you've got to be a very, very specific type of person. Like, lost-wandering-soul-that-has-an-unbearable-predilection-for-rust-and-decay-and-the-distinct-sensation-of-teetering-on-the-event-horizon-of-vomit type.

Otherwise, probably best to just move on, lol.

I personally would have gone with Black Myth: Wukong for GOTY, since it's obviously a labor of love game with imo the best art style of any game released this year. I would be crestfallen if I was a developer that poured my heart and soul into a game based off of a legendary folklore in my country, and and lost to a 11 hour platformer.

For those saying Black Myth Wukong got snubbed. It really didn't as it won "Player's Voice" awards as that's more important than the actual GOTY and it clearly shows gamers really like the game. The GOTY award is just judges from gaming sites and its only 10% gamer's votes so that says a lot. And it's my GOTY.

I do agree with everyone regarding Silent Hill 2 Remake. While that game didn't make it to my top 10 of 2024, it was still a great game to say the least and this is someone who played the original game. I too think it should have went to GOTY category and I think they could've swap the ER DLC over Silent Hill 2 Remake. I still don't approve any DLC to be GOTY as you still need the base game. Anyone disagree, don't quote me. The VGA was being silly doing that and they know it. Obviously they overlooked Silent Hill 2 Remake.

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden clearly got overlook so badly, it sure didn't get anything nominated this year. I was surprised it got snubbed so badly!

Haha, no joke. Yeah, Team Silent was one of a kind. Silent Hill 1-4 should definitely come with disclaimers about being about as niche as niche comes.

One thing I love about the Silent Hill games (despite my limited knowledge) is the vibes they give you. It’s like you’re in a David Lynch movie or something lol.

Oh, you know me, I'm going to say Factorio: Space Age or Satisfactory.

But even though they're perfect games, only about 20 people play lol.

I bought it on sale and just played it for an hour or two to get an idea, and I absolutely love it! Story is great, I love the investigative aspects, the characters are excellent, and the setting is amazing.

I actually had to force myself to stop playing it so I can finish DA Veilguard. I'm enjoy Veilguard but honestly I'm eager to be done with it at this point lol. Too many games to play.

Totally snubbed. Didn't need to win anything mind you but should have gotten some nominations.
