What games got you into a certain genre?

I can't name anything. I guess ToonTown got me into MMORPGs. The only other MMORPG I played is RuneScape, though.

And... Hmmm... Well, Metroid Prime: Hunters sort of made me like online FPS games more. I had mad sniping ability in that game, but the only other worthwhile online FPS I have found worthwhile are Team Fortess 2 and Counter Strike: Source.

So, uh, you name some, because I can't think of squat!

Goldeneye was my first FPS. Love at first sight :oops:

Mario made me love platformers. No better way to start.

Can't remember other ones.

When I had all three systems last gen (I was much more hardcore last gen, this gen I only have a PS3), I bought the Skies of Arcadia port for Gamecube, loved it to death and was excited to play more RPG's.

Then I played the horrid Final Fantasy X for PS2, which killed that excitement.:lol:

Halo got me into the FPS genre

other than that I hadn't owned any other FPS

I'd played 007 and perfect dark but didn't care for the FPS genre AT ALL until I played the first Halo

metal gear solid made me love stealth games

goldeneye 007 made me become an FPS addict

and gran turismo 2 made me love racing games

Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed-racing

KOTOR-RPG

Doom got me into FPS. Halo got me into consol FPS, till Halo pretty much all consol FPS felt underwhelming.

Banjo Tooie got me into platformers.

Pokemon Silver got me into RPG's

and Gears of War got me into shooters!

XIII-FPS..before that hated FPS games.

Tiberiun SUn-still my fav rts....

Super Mario Bros got me started on platformers (though most NES titles were platformers of some sort) and Final Fantasy VII got me started on RPGs.

Halo really got me into FPS

FFX introduced me to JRPGs

MSR got me into racing games

There are many games in their own genres I fell in love with that never saw the dawn of light again. Vagrant Story to name one. Anyhow, in general:

Earthbound was my first introduction into RPGs. Xenogears spiked my addiction like crack.

Exile 3 got me into turn based strategy/adventure/RPG. Baldur's Gate furthered the genre.

Doom introduced me to FPS but I never really grew fond of it until Half Life came along.

Starcraft ruined my early middle school years, but got me addicted to Strategy games and online play.

Tetris taught me how to organize things. The person who is able to fit 20 clowns into one car during circus acts are grandmasters at tetris.
