What games have you played so far this year and what would you rate them?

We’re halfway through the year, so it’s time for an update on the games we’ve played so far!

• Elden Ring: The first 30-40 hours of this game is amazing, easily 10/10 territory. My main issue was the repetition and also how easy it is to miss out on important things that could affect the story. Other than that, loved the game, amazing combat and sense of surprise, even if it felt like it was just a big Souls game. For me, it’s a 9/10.
• Horizon Forbidden West: Easily the best looking game on the market. Even the soundtrack surprised me! The best parts of this game was fighting the robo Dinos. The worse parts was inventory/weapon upgrade system and just overall the boring dialogue and characters. I’m going with an 8/10!
• Kirby and the Forgotten Land: I‘m about 65% through this game, and it’s a great game, but isn’t as fun as I hoped. The game also recycles mini-bosses which is meh. Overall, it’s charming and laid back. 7/10!
• Shin Megami Tensei V: loved this game, but it was pretty barebones in the story, character, and level design department. But the gameplay was very addicting and music was great. 8/10!
• Silent Hill 2: I went retro recently with a game I’ve always wanted to play through, but was a bit scared to do! I finally did it, and man, this game is a GOAT. Amazing story, amazing level and character design. Even the gameplay was fine. Oh, and let’s not forget about sound. Harrowing sound design and music! Overall, I want Silent Hill games like this, Konami! Silent Hills would’ve been amazing. 9/10!

There are other games I’ve played, but since I haven’t put enough time into them, not going to rate them yet.

Elden Ring. 10/10. Still playing first playthrough.

Tales of Arise: 6/10. Game went for far too long. Sooo much dialog. Way too much grinding. Forced myself to finish.

Plague's Tale and ratchet and clank: 8/10. Enjoyed them.

Elden Ring- Much Better Then Breath Of The Wild/10.

Nioh2- Laziest sequel around 7/10.

RE4 remaster- unplayable garbage with the controls it has 5/10.

The 3 big ones would be Monster hunter Rise, Ever Oasis (3DS) and FF7 Remake.

Monster Hunter Rise is more Monster Hunter. I was generally happy with the changes they made from World and am looking forward to Sunbreak (Next week i think). Usually I use the lance but for this game i committed to using the greatsword just for something different (which worked out nicely as one complaint i have is the blocking sound in Rise is awful. it's like "Plink" instead of "GADUNLKCH"...er..is that makes sense :P). I think the next Full monster hunter i will switch to Charge Blade.

Ever Oasis. A generally nice and chill game on the 3DS about Building up an Oasis, Saving a bunch of people and adventuring around the place. Nice to play before hitting the sack. I just have the final dungeon/boss fight to do on this one sooo....probably wont finish it :P.

FF7 Remake: Not fully decided on this one. I am not too far in: just past Jessie huring her leg. WWhen they stick to the source material it works well. The extras they have put in I am iffy on so far though. Also it's technically iffy. The art team have done a wonderful job but the way they are using UE just seems really weird. The Combat system is great though.

I’m currently playing through Horizon: Zero Dawn and am quite enjoying it. Right now I’m feeling that it’ll probably be an 8/10 game for me.

Elden Ring 1/10. uninstalled and refunded after a few hours. Didn’t even have a Dolby Atmos option for my best in class wireless Xbox headset.

bf2042 4/10 launched in an awful state, and the latest update and map is the only reason it gets a 4 instead of a 1.

cyberpunk 2077 8/10. Waited for the xsx version and paid around 15 bucks for it. As such, it was well worth it. Fun game.

Halo infinite 8/10. Brilliant sp campaign and the mp keeps on giving. Best mp game out there imo.

I have a policy of never rating any game until I complete it. Since I haven't first completed any game this year, I'm only rating games I've previously completed and is just replaying. Total War: Warhammer II, still a 9. Can't get enough of Ikit Claw and the Bolt Throwers, but I've been enjoying many other factions too. For example, Malagor, a.k.a. "that's not my army, I'm just going to solo you myself - and they're going to watch."

And Horizon Zero Dawn. Still a personally a 9, objectively an 8. It's still like Guerilla Game stole a big list of everything I like and made a game out of it. A big pander bomb right into my lower brain.

Games i played for the first time:

It takes two: Well thought puzzles and interactions 9/10, my only complaint is that it ends abruptly without a final boss battle.

Nickelodeon Smash: The game is bad, like really bad, but i've played it with friends in the same room so I had some fun with it 4/10.

That's it for this year, i'm waiting to get a PS5 to play Elden Ring, have to wait a little longer for Xenoblade 3 and Soul Hackers 2, and most of my most hyped games for this year were pushed to 2023 or to an unknown date like Advance Wars.

You’re finally getting around to playing through Persona 5 Royal! I still have my collector’s edition with the mask lol. Right now I have my JRPG fix with Xenoblade 3 and Soul Hackers 2 coming up. Btw, will you be checking out Soul Hackers 2 (Atlus RPG)?

Kirby and the Forgotten Land: Not very challenging, but it's a fun little game; 8/10.

Gran Turismo 7: One of the best racing games I've ever played. It's unfortunate that the developers defecated all over it with micro-transactions; 8/10.

Halo Infinite: It's a great game, but it's hard to not feel disappointed. I don't like the open world structure, nor do I like the boss fights; 7.5/10.

@SolidGame_basic: Yeah, I had some time, so I decided to finally take out Royal. I got to be honest though, while there are some nice QOL improvements, it's 95% the same as base P5, lol. I'm almost at the third semester, so I'm still clinging on to hope that it'll be worth the investment.

I saw one of the trailers for Soul Hackers 2, but it didn't explain anything and I never played the first game, so currently I don't plan on buying it.

Dying Light 2 - N/R this made me motion sick/gave me a headache, suffered through 10 hours but I can't really rate it. story seemed bad, gameplay seemed fun but not a big upgrade from the first game.

Elden Ring - 8/10 its a pretty good first attempt at a open world game by From Soft but they gotta rework some stuff if they want to make another.

Chernobylite: - 7/10 - this was a pretty chill game with decent atmosphere and exploration but it lacked substance. Probably a 6/10 if it wasn't set in Chernobyl

Nobody Saves The World - 7.5 pretty fun dungeon crawler/hack and slash type game with a unique twist

Tunic - 7/10 - great art style, starts strong but gets overly cryptic after a point.

V Rising - 8/10 - strong early access release, lots of potential. could use some balancing for solo play, great fun with friends.

Weird West - 6/10 - really cool and dynamic setting, some interesting storylines, but the combat feels kinda janky, don't like how its structured with constantly changing characters, and it just lacks depth overall.

Vampire Survivors - 9/10 - this might be the most fun I've had with a game this year, and its a friggen 3-dollar game where all you do is move around. highly recommended

What with the 12 minutes devs?

@hardwenzen: i didn't like some of the themes in the book/game. People do say that gaming is art, and freedom to express yourself, but I feel the writers took things too far. They crossed my line. These devs need to understand they aren't fucking Shakespeare or hemingway. Hire a reputable writer who doesn't have a stick up his ass and just make video games.

Funny enough, I had the same issue with tlou2. These devs need to stay in their lane. A cliche story line, like saving princess peach or saving the world is enough. No need to delve deeper than that and go full on stupid.

@Chutebox: Tales of Arise was good until the 2nd half. Once you beat the main lords the story falls flat.

Still don't have a clue what you're talking about. TLOU2 had a mature story, amazing acting and a massive budget. I could understand it going "too far" because they had everything needed to execute it exactly as it was written, while other devs wouldn't be able to go this far because of lack of talent, budget or them being pussies and being afraid of their game not selling cuz its "too violent". But in 12 minutes? Are you telling me that seeing your wife (i assume this is what's happening in the game since i haven't played it) getting killed in a game with Sims visuals is too far for you to handle?

@hardwenzen: if you want to know, then play the game or watch a YouTube video. Some people are ok with these kind of mature content as you call it. Others aren't.

Elden Ring : 10/10 - possibly game of the decade winner

Stanley Parable : 6/10 - highly overrated. its was fun for an hour or two.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart: 7/10 - decent game, nothing special but fun and my god are the graphics good.

Cyberpunk 2077: 5/10 - completely average game. I naturally did not expect much of this game when it arrived in 2020, but playing on PS5 was a very meh experience. I suppose on PC with all the mods it might be a 7/10 game.

Chrono Cross - 7/10. It started off good, but got boring towards the end. It's a shame Square-Enix never fixed the frame rate issue.

Chorus - 7/10. A nice space-sim-light shoot 'em up. Decent story, nice visuals...but it's no Everspace.

Sniper Elite - 8/10. A good series with another good installment. It's not perfect, though, and while I enjoy the stealth elements I want this game to be more sniping, and less Splinter Cell (though I do love me some SPlinter Cell). I just feel the opportunities for awesome 500+ yard shots are super rare.

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous - 9/10. Really great classic RPG. To be honest I only just got into Act 2 (act 1 is pretty short) because making characters is so fun. It's basically Dungeons and Dragons, but based on an older ruleset if I recall correctly that's sort of been taken in a different direction. So it's all very familiar but there are so many classes. Really fun game, good story so far. Reminds me of my early days of getting into RPG's with Neverwinter Nights.

V Rising - 7/10. Still in early access, but showing a lot of promise. Take an isometric action-RPG like Diablo, build it around vampires, then add some awesome crafting and survival elements with really good multiplayer features and you get this game. Honestly I would rate it higher because if it stays on track it's easily a 9/10 but right now still has some work left to do.

Hardspace: Shipbreakers - 9/10. Been playing this in early access for a while but its 1.0 release was not too long ago and it's such a great game I feel obligated to mention it here. It's a fun "reverse puzzle" game that has you tearing apart spaceships to salvage. Weird (good weird!) and wonderful combination of slow pace and high stakes that has you second-guessing yourself as you take apart ships, hoping you don't get blown up.

Dying Light 2 - 7/10. Lost interest, but a rock-solid game. I'll get back to it eventually, I'm trying to finish games before I install others so I need to work through the ones I have installed.

I've played others but those are the ones that are new to me this year.
