If sony could put together a PS1 Mini what would you wanna see on it?

  • Metal Gear Solid
  • Final Fantasy VII
  • Final Fantasy Tactics
  • Gran Turismo
  • Tomb Raider
  • Crash Bandicoot
  • Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2
  • Dragonquest VII
  • Tekken 3
  • Mortal Kombat Trilogy
  • Resident Evil 2
  • Silent Hill
  • Dance Dance Revolution
  • Star Ocean Second Story
  • Megaman X4
  • Xenogears
  • Final Fantasy IX
  • Grand Theft Auto 2
  • Street Fighter Alpha 3
  • Metal Gear Solid VR Mission's

Honestly the NES and SNES Mini's are more exciting since I don't think I owned 20 ps1 games. I owned quite a bit more atari/ NES/ SNES games. So a ps1 mini would be kinda meh to me. Did I miss any good ps1 games these seem like the best I could come up with.

Why a mini?

Don't they release some of them on PS4 to buy? Or are those not the same thing?

Don't want one. Wouldn't want an NES or SNES mini either if they released those Ninty titles on a virtual console on the switch.

I'm not too keen on these mini's, even though the NES and especially the SNES have plenty of games I still enjoy playing. They're just too limited, there are better ways to go about enjoying those systems libraries.

But a PS1 mini is an instant anti-buy for me lol. PS1 was my favorite console of gen 5, but there are very few games from its library that I care to revisit. Most of its games are pretty damn rough, and a lot of the good ones got plenty of iterative sequels that greatly improved on their formula, making them straight up redundant/obsolete.

And the few PS1 games that are worth playing are already available for download on modern systems.

Not saying a PS1 mini wouldn't do well, but for me it would only be a nostalgia buy, which isn't enough.

And shame on you for not having SotN listed in the OP.

@lrdfancypants: product they can knock together cheap and sell cheap, people will buy it and it will make money that's why.

I don't own ps4 to buy downloadable ps4 games, but I would buy a ps1 mini if it had enough good games on it and if the price point is cheap.

Uh, Sony has a way less shitty way of distributing really cool ps1 games these days, it's called selling them digitally, to your account, that you own across multiple devices.

Unlike the virtual console, where it doesn't really fucking matter if you bought Super Metroid on the Wii. You still need to buy it on the WiiU n 3DS separately. And I'm going to go out on a limb that's how The Switch will work as well. And I'm sure some shit heel, corporate apologist, Nintendo cum guzzler is going to say that is perfectly cool thing for Nintendo to do.

@Juub1990:

Yup, I loved the N64 and the PS1, was an awesome time to be gaming with all the new ideas being thrown around, but meh. They just don't hold up.

Funny thing is, in hindsight, I'd probably rather have the Saturn library if I had to choose a gen 5 console.

-

This would be the only redeeming factor of owning a PS1 mini.

@jg4xchamp: They haven't even confirmed whether or not we could buy these games. Just that NES games will be available to us if we give them $20 for their Online service.

Besides, why wait for a PS1 mini when one could just get a Vita TV and buy all the PS1 games you can on it?

Yeah Nintendo repping Jabroni life as a hardware maker/service provider.

I don't plan on doing either a PS1 mini or vita TV, I could just play them on the PS3 at this point. It has BC for PS1 n PS2. Plus again the digital space if I want to buy games. Even the PS4 is getting some healthier additions.

@jg4xchamp: I only suggested a PSVita TV because it's like $50.

but yeah if you have a PS3 there's no reason for you to even consider a PS1 mini.

I guess I just don't have any nostalgia tie to something like this.

I wanted the NES but I was a kid when it released. I don't care about the SNES either. NES is what I think of when I think Nintendo.

The actually mini version of a console is actually a huge factor for me. PS1 really doesn't look all that much to be honest, so I'm not sure if I want mini version of it. Same goes for N64. SFC, on the other hand, do want.

Castlevania Symphony of the Night should be there too, it was the reason why I had purchased a PS1 back then, game launched on that system. Not really interested in these mini systems anyways.....I was initially, but now I think after some time it would become clutter in my room

Main reason I still have my PS3 is that it lets me play the odd PS1 game that I still have on disc and still have a mild inclination to play. For the most part, most PS1 games have been improved upon with newer systems

  5. Crash Bandicoot
  6. Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back

A lot of you guys are missing the appeal of these mini systems.

The appeal to many people is about more than just being able to play the games; there are a lot of other options to be able to do that if that is all that you care about. A large part of the appeal is also the nostalgic design of the system looking just like a cool miniature version of a console that we love and have many fond memories of as well as being able to play it with an authentic controller that is just like the controller that we originally played these games with.

That's why the NES Mini sold like hotcakes while the Genesis Mini that has been around for years but was just an ugly piece of plastic that did not look anything like the real Sega Genesis did not. They have now finally learned their lesson after seeing the success of the NES Mini and will now be redesigning this year's new version to look like a real Sega Genesis. And because of the redesign, I will finally buy one.

So it doesn't matter if the Vita TV can play PS1 games since the Vita TV doesn't look like a PS1 and you can't use PS1 controllers on it. That kills part of the nostalgia and coolness; therefore a lot of people, like myself, who would be interested in a PS1 Mini have absolutely no interest in a Vita TV. The Vita TV had embarrassing sales even though it could play PS1 games for cheap, but I guarantee a PS1 Mini would sell like hotcakes just like the NES Mini and the biggest reason is because of the nostalgic design.

From a technical point of view:

1. Games to have high texture filtering and super sample AA

2. No load times

3. Option to have some games tweaked i.e - Better draw distances and less LOD transfers

4. Games to be given a widescreen update

5,. Games that use pre-rendered back grounds (Like the Resi Games) to have them completely re-done so they don't look like ass at HD resolutions.

Do older PlayStation games have the same value among gamers than games released on older Nintendo systems?
