Then it started since the late 80's.
The farthest back I can remember is when the NES and Sega Master System were at war. Yup. I'm getting old..lol
I think Nintendo/Sega is the first most public fanboy war. The ad campaigns, in particular on the Sega side, called out each other.
But yeah ever since there has been more than one console makes the most sense.
Before that Intellivision, Coleco, and Atari. Atari had commercials attacking both Intellivision and Coleco Vision.The farthest back I can remember is when the NES and Sega Master System were at war. Yup. I'm getting old..lol

I don't knoq. Both systems were there, but the NES was so big that there was no room for a proper system war. Now, the 16 bit era, THAT was a war.
Fanboy wars started when non-gamers started buying consoles, it's still going on today.Unassigned
The fanboy wars have been going on since before their were "gamers".
