It did leaps and bounds for console gaming. Gaming in general not so much. Still what it did for console gaming is pretty groundbreaking.Nothing..IMO.
It was a test to see if PC gaming could translate to XBox. It did....very succesfully.
But still PC owners know that playing online will always be better on the PC.

halo brought repetitive level design and semi-fun multiplayer...... oh, and for some reason lots of people like playing it with an xbox controller.chrisdojoRepetitive level design had been around for decades already...
...you mean PC owners will always prefer playing online on the PC....Nothing..IMO.

Tribes without jetpacks.bloodychimpYou obviously have never played tribes. Just because it has vehicles. Seriously, the games are nothing alike. I played tribes for 5 years, and halo almost as long. They are very different games. Shame on you...

Lol at your sig.
Raised the bar for all console based FPS's.tomarlynConsidering how many console fps there have been before Halo, there wasn't so much of a bar to raise, more like... a twig
-Noobified health system. Shield ? Wtf. Just an excuse to get hits and still be fine (and get praised for it by noob, talking about comical).
-Overpowered melee. No, guns as a melee weapon is not revolutional, it's what knife are for. (not as bad as chainsaw + gun idea, still)
-Defies traditional physics, and FPS law (you aim AT the target to get a hit,  not NEXT TO it), also, get praised for it. Also, there is a reason why your health is not supposed to come back to normal after being hit in a FPS.
-Final and foremost, Halo really brought to gaming the worst fanboys mankind ever breed.
