Okay it's a given they'll lose the console war and portable war, but what happens if they lose the format War as well?
I mean I dont like Sony much but I hope they dont go out of business, competition is good.

Its a bit to early to say that the PS3 has lost just yet, there are so many factors that could change over the next few years. But obviously if they keep up their current success rate its got no chance at all. Â
Well since they're outselling HD DVD 9-2 and they have a great slate of games coming out this year I don't see them losing. Starting in the summer and going through winter they have a game lineup coming out unlike anything we've seen. All these games are in development and some in their final stages. The 360 has a 1 year head start and they may stay ahead in that area by a little ways, but BR is taking over big time.

"they'll lose the console war".....oh yea, I am sure they will lose to the 360 and its one region fanbase while the PS3 sells in three regions. Sony will be fine in the console wars and fine in the media war, especially since Blu ray is not made by sony but a combo of companies.
Big if...
However, to answer the question, they will continue selling their great product lines of audio players, TVs, cell phones, making great movies, etc.
Sony isn't just games. People tend to forget.Â

I would purchase a PS3, bring it home, setup a video camera and then put a blowtorch to it. After its melted down to a heap of plastic, I then post the video on youtube and then the screenshots are now used in my sig on gamespot, as a reminder to the cows to never forget.... :D

Sony stock is up. The company as a whole is doing really good.
If they lose the console war this gen they will surely try and come back in the next gen. The PS3 will not just dissapear and will exist for the average life span of any console. If Nintendo can survive the Cube then Sony will have no trouble surviving the PS3 as well.
As for the format war well Sony owns a studio and that will make it very difficult for HD DVD to win.

if sony loses the console war quickly turns into its a given? if you look at the massive difference the ps1 and ps2 won there wars at and the long life of sony consoles i would say its a given the ps3 will win the console war. magrappy
To every good thing there is an end. Translation:Â The PS1 ad PS2 won, but the PS3 will lose badly.
They've already guarunteed a victory in the format war. PSP has around 20 million sold so it's hardly a failure for a first run at portables (was Xbox a failure considering the userbase it built for 360?). We'll have to see by the end of this year where the console war is going. PS3 could either gain ground and be on track to dominate with all the great exclusives coming (at least the high end market) or the fanatical anti-sony hype BS actually got to the public and it dies.Lazy_Boy88wow that's pretty optimisitic... you sound more delusional than anything

What great exclusives are you talking about? Microsoft is buying up all the great exclusives for the XBOX 360, such as Devil May Cry 4. Final Fantasy 13 is on it's way to the 360!!

pretty good? The Wii is the fastest selling console of all time. Then this forum will be useless because 95% of the threads in system wars are about the PS3 or Sony in some way.iwo4lifeToo bad 95% percent of the sales werent about Sony and the PS3 lol
if they do, they'll be forced to move to hd dvd drives if they want to continue the "true hi def"-thing...
however, this would actually help them as the drives cost less than bluray's and they'll be in a better positioin to make money from their core business of the playstation as a gaming device.
if they do it right, they can market it as The Return to Gaming or something similar.
the bad news is that the sales won't be enough to recoup the monies lost on the ps3 and bluray...
imo..

The BR drive in the PS3 doesn't add much to the price of the system. Especially in a year. Does nobody recall that DVD-R drives were 800 dollars when they first came out but now you can buy them for $40. As far as standalone BR/HD-DVD players do you also realize that there is more to them than just a drive. Go look up what makes up a standalone unit and you will see its not just feeding the signal from the drive to an output on the back of an empty box. The cost of the physical drive is a very small price. There is a CPU, Memory and other components in there that cost a lot more.

wow. everything you just said is totaly wrong. bd is back down to a 2:1 lead over hd dvd. link. amazon.com is reporting that hd dvd out-sold bd for the first time in weeks. for all of the ps3 games launching this fall, they will all lose out to halo 3. mass effect and forza 2 have this summer owned.Â

If you look st the massive difference in the Wars between the wars between Napolean and Germany and Napolean and Portugual, I would say its a given Napoleon will win in Russia.
