That would be insane.

They're probably saving the price drop for when Sony does their price drop on the PS3. 360 is selling better, so there's no reason for MS to do it just yet, and with the way MS is I'm sure they're attempting to hurt Sony really badly this gen.

Yeah. That'a good way to counter Sony if they need to. Good move when I think about it.
The Arcade also come with 512MB internal memory now. not bad, still I don't see how they couldn't throw in a few gigs.
I don't know, on one hand I never expected them to drop the price this low so soon, and htey did. While on the other hand they're probably losing money on the Arcade SKU, since Wii only makes a return of like $6 on every system sold, there's no way they can be making money off of it.
ok so $150 is around £90. that is around what a ps2 costs here in the uk.
i dont think this price cut will happen beacuse the arcade is already really cheap. maybe elite and pro will go down a bit.
however, if i am wrong and this does happen, could be the end of the ps. i mean for casual gamers who are still deciding which way to go they will see that ms console costs the same as sony's last gen and just buy a 360 straight away.
this would be bad though because competition is what makes this industry stronger.

The Wii is making way more money than that. Nintendo doesn't release systems that don't make money right off the bat, and the Wii's insides are not much powerful (if at all) than the Xbox, and that's 8-10 year old technology.
I'm sure by now the Arcade is making roughly $30-$50 per system sold, and the higher up systems with accessories net MS around $70 last I heard. Based on reports I saw I think the average price spent for a 360 was around $290, so that means more Arcades are sold, but MS is definitely making money on every sell, and they have been for months.
A price drop might help offset the PS3 price cut a little bit, but understand that at $299 (if it does get to that price). The PS3 is now considered affordable. Add the system sellers and other great games coming, and you got a sales increase. I still believe that the Xbox 60 gig is the most popular SKU and the only way t hurt a PS3 price cut a lot is bringing it down to $200. $250 would not do it for them.
The problem is that everyone is waiting for a PS3 price drop so I really dont see another 360 price drop affecting the PS3. Every gamer Ive come across say they want a PS3 price drop, no one says 360 is expensive its already cheap enough, infact its cheaper(arcade SKU) then Wii I believe. Lemms believe that a price drop will mean massive sales for 360, there needs to be a demand for that to occur and so far every gamer has their eyes for a PS3 price drop, no one cares if the 360 drops in price or not.
Great plan from Sony, the longer they hold back a price drop the demand amongst gamers only increases.Swift_Boss_A
Your logic is flawed in the extreme.
It's not about people waiting for a price drop. It's all about how the pricing of consoles look relative to eachother.
For two consoles that are extremely similar in capabilities and in game library, relative price point is extremely important.
Sony doesn't just want to just get the people "waiting for a price drop." What they want is for people to choose their console over the 360, which means that they want a competitive relative price point. Microsoft dropping their price insanely low does not help this endeavor.
good point. £120 for a hdd thats actually 8gb less than it says it is? no thanks.[QUOTE="Tjeremiah1988"]id rather them drop on the accessories. R_MAHIL

Why would they drop it if it all ready outsells the PS3 by a landslide... and the Wii as wll once Natal comes out... 199 is perfect...Flexmaster_365You think that the 360 will outsell the Wii with a $200 dollar console and a add-on? I'm willing to bet that that will never happen.

Yeah. It probablywon't. It's wishful thinking. People really try their best to on this forum to oversimplify things.

If Natal is an expensive add-on, I don't think it will matter if it's the best thing since sliced bread.
It'd boost sales even more, but I still wouldn't buy one. It doesn't have exclusives I care for :(
I've thought about buying one before though, it's a really nice console, but my wallet can't support more than the two game collections I'm building right now. Even if they lower the price of their console, I'd still have to add up the costs of the games I'd want and whatever add-ons I'd get for it (because I love add-ons).

Its partially because of that but mostly its because HD manufactures consider 1,000 bytes to be a kilobyte, 1,000,000 bytes to be a megabyte etc. The problem is almost all chunks of data in computers are powers of two so everyone else considers 2^10 bytes to be a kilobyte, which is 1,024 bytes and 2^20 bytes to be a megabyte which is 1,048,576 bytes and so on. The higher you go that bigger the difference. Your hard drive isn't smaller then the manufacture said because the OS (windows, 360 OS) says it is, they are just using different definitions for the terms. There was even a lawsuit back in the 90's claiming false advertising but I don't think it went anywhere.120,000,000,000 / 2^30 = 111.758709 which is rounded up to 112 by the 360 OS. No real difference in size.
Sorry for the off topic hehe.

It doesn't directly effect (though it does indirectly)the sales of the PS3, but it undermines their price cut. I don't think it makes sense to pretend that MS dropping the price of the 360 to 150$ is going to go unnoticed by consumers, which is what you seem to be implying. $150 is insanely low for an HD console. People who haven't upgraded to HD gaming yet will absolutely take a 150$ price point into consideration.
I don't see how you can deny that it would be better for Sony if Microsoft didn't drop their price in response. Sony does not want Microsoft's sales to accelerate in any way. They want Microsoft's sales to decrease or atleast stay static. And they want to start to try to move into the 360's price range if that's at all possible.
That being said, even if Microsoft cuts the price in response, a price cut still helps Sony's hardware sales, so they need to do it. They can't keep charging $400.
that doesn't matter if their console is an xbox 360. Sony's success with the PS3 requires will REQUIRE them to have thoughtful effective marketing. I've been saying this the whole time, and I don't understand why Sony doesn't market their hardware correctly. Price cut + strong line up + effective marketing = max sales you'll getMore people would eventually buy the hard drive later.

What the...The Wii is making a whole hell of a lot more than $6 on every Wii sold.
He's half right. $6 was the reported margin at launch.
Obviously it'll be a heck lot better now
