Will it be a Microsoft vs Sony war only??
Then Nintendo will ride it out for a few years, like they did with the Wii U and come out with some other kind of system. The Switch 2 might not sell as many as the Switch but I highly doubt it’ll flop. If it does it won’t end Nintendo.
@lundy86_4: I forgot about BC.
Edit: will Nintendo be knocked out of the console race forever?
Wii U flopped and they bounced back.
Let's say Switch 2 flops, it just means they'll bounce back with another idea. I'm thinking it would be cool if Nintendo released an AR/VR system, maybe tabletop system or hell, maybe just a traditional console??
In fact, I think the whole hybrid portable idea is stupid, but I'll still buy Switch 2 for the games.
@Sam3231: WiiU flopped, so they relied on the 3DS.
Switch 2 potentially flops, they’re rely on ???
But everybody was on board hybrid at the beginning. And now it’s a Handheld console almost for most.

Alarmo dude, duh. :D I guess I see what you mean.
I think it's pretty unlikely to flop though.
Pretty much impossible at this point. People are still buying the Switch into its 7th/8th year. The Switch 2 is literally just a better Switch.
It won't make much of a difference. The Gameboy Micro flopped, the Virtual Boy flopped and the Wii U flopped. Despite all of that, Nintendo rose from the ashes and starting making money again. If the Switch 2 flops, they'll still be fine. They have been in this console race for a long time, so we don't have to worry about what they'll do.

One small detail. The console market is diminishing.
if the Switch 2 flops, life will go on..
Nintendo will make another attempt at hardware and hopefully it will be a success.. if not, those Nintendo gamers will move on to other platforms and hopefully Nintendo will provide software to those platforms..
At worst the market for Switch 2 will be stagnant, because it's more of the same with a number 2 at the end. Most Switch owners will upgrade given time. All it needs is the right games put on the device, let's hope Nintendo doesn't look at PS5s-lifetime and how Sony handled its studios as inspiration (waste them all on "Fortnite Killers")
This is not a Wii U situation anyway; that confused Wii owners and bastardized loyal Nintendo fans with its questionable hardware.
Well first, for this topic, id specify that flop means "Wiiu levels of momentum/sales/growth" rather than "failing to outsell the switch".
So if it's looking like the Switch 2 is a repeat of the Wiiu: honestly nothing drastic. Nintendo operate so that they can take at least 2 flops back to back before they really need to do anything drastic. Anyone hoping for Nintendo games to officially come to the PC/Xbox/PS on the back of a Switch 2 flop will be disappointed (unfortunately). Nintendo would need to be in a state of existential crisis for that to happen: even then they are more likely to shift to mobile.
They still have the Switch to fall back on so they could make more Switch games. I suspect that there will be a fairly long cross gen period between the Switch and Switch 2 anyway. Switch 2 will have it's exclusives but, for the next couple of years at least, I suspect Nintendo will have Switch builds of most of their games too.
They can also release new Switch models that are cheaper. Retape the Switch SOC to the same as the Switch 2 then build a smaller, lighter, passively cooled machine for 199.99 or possibly even 149.99. On a side note: I wonder if they are going to have a significant price cut for the Switch or are they just going to stop production soon and clear out existing stock. They are still going for 300-350 quid. I would hope the Switch 2 is in that ball park in terms of price.
But yeah: it will just mean they make less money, dust themselves down and rethink their next gen machine.
Switch 1 made nintendo a lot of money, it won't make a theoretical switch 2 flop close down nintendo
Could possibly get off to a slow start especially if it has a hefty price tag. I doubt the casuals are going to upgrade right away.
I'm sure Pokémon will give a big boost.
I think worst case scenario is it sells more then 3ds but less then the Wii.
If the Switch 2 flops, it'll be a similar thing to the Wii U. There will be a few jokes at the expense of Nintendo, but life will ultimately move on.
It's unlikely. The Switch 2 hype is through the roof. The reveal video has more views and likes in 72 hours than the PS4 and PS5 reveals combined. Don't let the niche message board "enthusiasts" fool you, the streets are excited for the Switch 2.
I don't know, we'll see. With Nintendo getting more third party support, and Japanese developers and publishers supporting a more multiplatform approach, I imagine if anything Nintendo will stand a chance to steal some of Sony's edge.
