Let's face it no one with half a brain is going to go out of their way to buy this POS but what if it came with a cable subscription. it's the best way to ensure that the xbox one will even have a internet access and cable companies can start getting their hands in the gaming industry legitimatly (you know they want a piece of the pie) if the XBONE came with a a 100 dollar cable bundle with tv and internet then microsoft found a avenue of revenue while ignoring people who don't want cable it's really my thought on why they are doing this.

Why would I want a cable subscription? Another bill for something I wouldn't use.

Why would I even want a cable subscription? Out of the hundreds of channels on TV, I can't even count ten shows worth watching.

basically that is part of the plan, MS is already courting SKY to do this. X1 offers true IPTV, 100 percent, and its never been done on this scale. What does this mean? It means a ton of consoles will be sold this way to Verizon, Comcast, Sky, and a ton of other providers.

I don't see why TV on a console that will cost hundreds and hundreds of dollars plus subsciption fees would be attractive to casual audiences when there are things like Apple TV and Roku that are $100 and under.

well it does far more than apple tv and roku, its more like a google TV. It offers IPTV, go look it up and educate yourself on the subject. Also you will be able to get the X1 at an extremely discounted rate if you sign onto a contract with one of the triple play providers. They give out 300 dollar gift cards to get you to sign onto a 2 year contract, so yeah ill take an extra x1 for 200 divided over 24 months to renew my contract with FiOS.

Are those payment plans confirmed yet or is that just speculation? I won't be surprised if they have a subsidized contract model that has the customer paying more in the long run, but I haven't read anything confirming it.

well I know how the company I work for runs, they offer giftcards of up to 300 dollars to lock into a contract. Simply put its a win/win for both the triple play provider and x1. The triple play provider gets the subscriber, and x1 gets the sale of the x1. Pachter says this is the reason why MS will win this gen, and I agree. Its a built in way to sell consoles. MS has already contacted SKY, which is the only real IPTV provider going right now, and more to come.

I'd then have to pay a cancellation fee for direct tv and then start paying some other company that MS chooses? lol it would just be yet another reason NOT to buy the xbox one.

Why would cable providers like Comcast and Verizon want to hand over power to MS though? Even if they are getting another subscriber, if people migrate en mass over to XBone for cable, they would be the middleman in the situation, rather than having all the control like they currently do.

X1 needs a cablebox to offer its IPTV which cable providers sell at a monthly charge, no middleman, its part of a promotion, cable providers want subscribers to lock into a contact because they get monthly revenue from a subscriber, its win win. YOu will pay a fraction of the price for the x1, like i said they give out 300 dollar gift cards to lock you into a contact, currently FiOS offers a 200 dollar giftcard and multiroom DVR for life just so a subscriber signs up.

Well that doesn't sound appealing to me at all. I've actually been really close to canceling my cable subscription all together. Cable TV is on its way out.

What are the major benefits of IPTV over traditional cable? Just the snap mode and fantasy sports update thing?

Well I wouldn't be against it lol. Don't think it would have any impact on my decision to buy it or not though.
