What IF XBL became free?

So we all know and can pretty much agree that XBL is superior to PSN, HOWEVER, PSN is becoming a great threat as times goes on

they are slowly, but surely catching up with XBL

what if they do fully have everything that XBL does? well, i think M$ would feel extremely threatened by this and MAYBE then make XBL free...the only reason it's not now is because they know that they are better than PSN and that's what keep customers paying

if they lose enough sales i could see them pulling it out...i would be MUCH bigger news than a price cut and a punch in the face to the competition

competition brings out the best in a company...PSN needs to step it up so this can happen...then we'll have TWO great online systems

so for those of you who don't have a 360...would you then buy a 360 at $299 with FREE XBL?

microsoft wont make it free they will just continue to add features that will elevate it above psn even more.. then sony will copy and microsoft will add even more features, its a never ending cycle that is cool for both xbox and playstation fansG-O-M-J

If it's free then they would have to refund everyone that paid for it for that year because then it would be a waste of money if it is suddenly free.

as long as people still pay $50 for internet, $100 for a network adapter, and $5 for a digital lightsaber, Microsoft will never make its online service free.

They have these 48 hour Gold cards available and when you redeem it, the only thing you can do is play online, you can't download the early demos and I think you can't use some of the Gold features. So I could see MS doing the same thing and making Silver members have the ability to simply play online but can't use Gold features. But the only way I could see MS doing this if is more people voice their opinions on this and if the PS3 starts gaining the lead.

I doubt MS give a flying f*** what PSN is doing if million's of people are willing to pay for XBLMS will still charge for it, even if PSN does end up better than XBL people would still pay so they can play game's like Halo 3 & Gear's 2 online so it wouldnt make much of a difference anyway.

well there's a point in time where people can realize that if another company is offering the same kind of service for a lower price (in this case...free) then the other company would do the same...or at least lower their price as well to not lose their own customers

i understand what your saying...but i really think that M$ would at least lower their price if PSN really did catch up with them...but right now, PSN is ok, but still a joke compared to XBL and M$ knows that

and sony is seriously slacking and taking WAY too long for some stuff...i mean firmware 3.0 SHOULD have included cross game chat...idk why their so slow at these things

This is why advertisement might be a good thing for Xbox Live. Thanks to T-mobile, you'll get to play free online at the end of the month. It's like when Sprint made Rag Doll Kung Fu free on PSN.

not really...elite was $399 regardless when it first came out...they just threw in two free games

In order for it to be free they'd probably have to fall to 3rd place and lose at least half of the people paying for it right now.

Then the XBL haters would have virtually nothing to complain about.

I also don't think XBL would be improved at the rate it is currently improving if the funding was cut.

I don't think XBox Live will ever be FREE. Microsoft may cut the price to $24.99 in the future, but there will always be a fee. Mainly because it makes Microsoft great money. Whereas Microsoft is making a substantial amount of money off of XBox Live, Sony is probably losing money every week with PSN. They depend on HOME and all their payable DLC to pull in money. I'm sure that's not enough to cover their expenses for all those servers, broadband and staff members. I think Sony will probably charge $24.99 for their PSN before Microsoft drops their price.

I don't think anyone was asking you to get one. The PS3 has flaws as well and so does the Wii. Yet many people have bought both of those systems. :P
