Which indie developers have a chance of rising similar to the way Epic Games did back during their early days?

Who knows, they might make the whole artsy scene popular.Wow...can you imagine thatgamecompany turning into EA or Epic Games?
That'd be terrible.

Not that, I love artsy games, the more the better.
Problem is, when a company gets as big as EA or Activision, things start changing for the worse. I don't want that to happen with thatgamecompany.

Yeah that's pretty much implied. Though I seriously doubt that will ever happen, no indie company can reach EA status without first reaching THQ status. Even though we are using publishers as if they were devs :roll:Roviois about the only one. But none of the those guys want to go mainstream,

Selling millions of copies over cellphones, consoles (PS3 atleast) PC, tablets, smartphones, etc etc and having their mothers and grandmothers talking about Angry Birds isnt already mainstream?
[QUOTE="James161324"]Why would a company not want to go mainstream, mainstream = way much more $Because they actually have some dignity and respect for consumers.Roviois about the only one. But none of the those guys want to go mainstream,

As is evidenced by the games put out by Activision and EA, you only get that big by making horrible games and marketing them like crazy to make people think they are better than dog crap.
Both companies are completely irrelevant to anyone who enjoys games more than commercials.
It's more likely that companies like EA and Activision will get smaller if anything, D2D has already taken a lot of power away from them.
[QUOTE="AdrianWerner"]valve counts as indie? since when?Since they aren't owned by any publisher or investor. Of course, that's when using word indie simply as shortened version of independent. Many people think that after reaching certain size and profitability you can no longer count as indie, just independent.Rovio and Valve are the only ones. Epic is nowhere near EA/Activision and never will be.

If were talkin bout small companies Rovio have pretty much appeared out of thin air with the angry birds craze.
But for SW they are far too mainstream even though they sprouted from the sucess of 1 game i'll have to say them and Mojang.

Indie Games are **** there I said it, we all know it.
Maneil99
I wouldnt say they're sh1t since there are really good ones out there. Problem is, for every good indie game theres like 20 sh1tty ones. Indie games are quite overrated and only (commonly) praised by the hipsters of gaming i.e. hermits just to take a nod over the "mainstream" overproduced "casualized" "cr4p" pointed towards consoles.
blizzard is big indie company already at the point of this post, many fortunes may be in future. they are good at games and have the biggest chance at indie company converting to EA/Activision lookalike in all seriousness. i really hope nobody has even a chance at getting that big. its too big for anyone's good aside from the higher-ups.yellosnolvr
blizzard arent indie though they are a subsidiary of vivendi and part of the acti/bliz partnership.
So yeah no.

Heck...if we're pure then absolutely nothing on XBLA could count as indie for example.[QUOTE="BrunoBRS"] valve counts as indie? since when?BrunoBRS
Also..plenty of very small studios have their own stores.
I've chosen the "indie = independent" definition for this thread because it's the only one that makes sense in context of OP's question.
