Poll What is #1 reason why PS4 is winning right now? (182 votes)
Me thinks probably the DRM debacle with price being a close second. That whole DRM thing pretty much gave Sony their best E3 ever. What you thinks?

both Microsoft and Nintendo shot themselves in the foot when they launched their consoles. Sony came out on top by default.
Other: people don't realise that building their own gaming PC isn't that hard any more thanks to a limitless number of guides on the internet, and providing they aren't an extremely casual gamer (which is fine if you are) the cost will break even in the first year on what you save in game prices.
It has the best hardware at an affordable price.
The Xbox costs the same but will often get poorer versions of multiplats, so that's out. The Wii U is a tablet-wannabe joke, that's only good for Nintendo exclusives -- mostly rehashes -- and has no third-party support, so that's out as well. The PS4 is the most logical option for people who don't want to bother with a gaming PC (vast majority of gamers).
It's winning?
It's winning second or third place, that's winning, kinda.
And here comes the damage control...
-Better first party, so a solid future of exclusive games
-price
-Didn't try to pull of DRM bs like MS
-Positive hype thx to MS fcking up the Xbone launch,...
in other words: LEMMINGS AMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM CRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!
All of the above. It has better hardware, better exclusives, multiplat games run better and in higher resolution, PS Plus gives out free games which have always been superior to Xbox's freebies. The system is smaller, lighter, looks better, the controller is better.. basically everything is better. I own both consoles and use my PS4 a lot more than my XBox One.
Probably the price
Yet PS3 was outselling 360 worldwide at $600. Price is a bad excuse when the difference was only $100 between the 4 and One . Gamecube was 100 bucks less than PS2 and Xbox, how did that work out for Nintendo? PS is just more popular than Xbox. How else did PS3 outsell 360 despite all of its disadvantages. Also, how long is the price excuse going to be viable Xbox fans? X1 has been the same price as PS4 since June now.....
hype. Massive piles of money spent on advertising. Playing that commercial with that one chick going 'All the people I know that are gamers are getting ps4.' over and over and over until ps4 actually sounds like a feasible idea. After all that chick wouldn't lie to us right?
It's probably just everybody going back to the Playstation.
I know myself and others last gen, switched from the PS2 to X360 because:

Plus, don't forget the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7th, 1941. I'm sure that ties into this equation somehow
1) Lucky that Microsoft screwed up with PR at release. and Price/Direciton.
2) Hype... since your 8 year old consoles have been so outdated for years... buying up these 2 crap sequals desperately hoping for something fresh... and in return getting s*itter games.
@Sagemode87: you're going to need to provide actual evidence
Jump in the lake, you'll find it there.

Yeah, you kinda missed the Animal House reference in there. Still though, super LOL>
Spending more on advertising than MS and Nintendo combined.
very doubtful... probably no more than or even a bit less than M$

I bought a PS4 for the following reasons:
1. Xbox One is $100 more, charges $10 more for online play, and has inferior hardware (according to experts or so they say...)
2. Xbox PR mess. It is never a good sign when a product does not know what it wants to be.
3. PS4 hype....unfortunately I'm still waiting for a game to feel "next gen".
It's winning because Gamespot's SW's means absolutely NOTHING in the Real World.
SW: TLOU = "Teh Last gen port!" "PS4 has no games..lololol"
Real World: TLOU = Sales 1+ million copies on PS4.
SW: Watch Dogs, Madden 15, COD Ghosts, Minecraft = "Teh Multiplats don't count" "PS4 has no games..lololol"
Real World: Watch Dogs, Madden 15, COD Ghosts, Minecraft = Top NPD Sales charts for months on end.
SW: "PS4 Sales don't matter.. lololol"
Real World: Fastest Selling console in recent history and has sold nearly double that of its competition.
Combination of more powerful AND cheaper is very strong. Also MS got themselves into a negative media spiral (that they haven't really got out of yet) due to their anti-consumer measures and focus on non-gaming features. Sony exploited this perfectly, for example with their "this is for the players"-slogan.
Sony offers a better system at a lower price. Everyone knows that the multiplats run better on PS4. Even the casuals at my work know it which leads be to believe everyone knows. The general consensus is that Microsoft, particularly the Xbox division, is synonymous with scum. Don Mattrick dropped the bomb with the online only infrastructure paired with strict DRM, saying, "if you don't like it, buy an Xbox 360". Look, I know Sony and Nintendo are the same in that they're major corporations who want nothing but your money, but at least they give off the impression that they care about their customers. Microsoft doesn't even try, they just don't give a shit and that really doesn't resonate well with people. I would probably own an Xbox One right now if Microsoft wasn't such a bunch of assholes. I don't want to give them a +1 for their monthly sales, they don't deserve my money. That's saying a lot because I burn a lot of cash pretty frivolously on video games. It takes a lot for me to write off a company completely, so it's indicative of just how badly they have fucked up.
Then you have the games situation. Everyone who bought a 360 last gen felt like they got burned because the PS3 had better games. Everyone knows that when this generation comes to a close, PS4 and Wii U will have all the best games and Xbox One will be trailing far behind just like they have every generation. With the immense popularity of social media, Microsoft can't get by anymore on lies and deceit like they used to. Now whenever they talk big but can't back it up, they're called out on social media and laughed at by the entire world. They can't brush their failures under the rug anymore and they're under a microscope which is something they're not used to. Nintendo and Sony have always gotten by with delivering great things for gamers and Microsoft has always gotten by through deception and lies. Not anymore, consumers are too smart and well informed thanks to social media.
Then you have the Kinect which is a complete joke, always has been, always will be. They swallowed their pride and released a SKU without it even when they said they would never do such thing. Flip Flop number 200. People also see the constant flip flopping and waffle house that Microsoft lives in and realize it's indicative of the company as a whole and the Xbox Brand. They have no sense of direction, know nothing about gaming, don't give a shit about gamers and lie about everything. They would sell empty Xbox One boxes if they could get away with it.
its a combination of sony absolutely getting it right and the competition completely messing up.
i mean sony managed to put online play behind a paywall for the PS4 and no one batted an eyelid because they were so focused on MSs DRM plans. its something they should have gotten flack for but nada.
at the end of the day they have the strongest sales pitch. the most powerful games console, backed by all the major third parties and sonys own developers, that has all the major features the competition has and all for the same price, or less, than the xbox 1.
you can argue that there are no games until you are blue i the face but thats only if you are looking at exclsuives. if youa re to look at the library as a whole (which people would be doing) there are plenty of games and they run better on the PS4, cost the same as the X1 version and run on a console that is the same price as the X1.
MS and nintendo have yet to find a successful counter. the counter is exclsuive killer games with a wide appeal. the big releases on the wiiu at the moment are mostly to appeal to existing fans of nintendo games. same with MS. so they have to try something different.
games sell hardware but when there are not many games that appeal to loads of people then they either dont buy, or they buy the console that they percieve to have the best value. currently that is clearly the PS4.
Id say a combination of price and MS pulling a Sony and thinking they could dictate to the industry what the next shift was.
The messaging and direction was off and the price didnt help.
The smart decision wouldve been to have No DRM policies, $399 Kinect version, $299 Non-Kinect.
Being weaker doesnt matter as much as price and gaming catalog. They shouldve learned this from PS2/360
They got arrogant
not one person voted 'exclusives'. most of the votes are sitting in 'hype'.
sounds about right.
All launch consoles are sold on hype, the exclusives come in the second year for the most part.
sounds about right
Early adoption.
The main reason why I jumped to next gen was because I for one was tried of the current gen and so were millions of other gamers. Why are gamers overwhelmingly choosing the PS4? I'm not going to act like I know the exact reason but there are a few things that point to an answer.

Nope. They're sold because consolites(those who prefer the console experience) get tired of the same old graphics. Most of the people harping on exclusives are the pc gamers looking for a reason to buy the new consoles.
