Poll What is #1 reason why PS4 is winning right now? (182 votes)
Me thinks probably the DRM debacle with price being a close second. That whole DRM thing pretty much gave Sony their best E3 ever. What you thinks?

Most of the people harping on exclusives are the pc gamers looking for a reason to buy the new consoles.
sounds about right
@xerxesbraun: source?
Just common sense. PC gamers spend lots of money to play the same games but with better graphics but consolites shouldn't?
It was a combination of the $100 price advantage and the apparent "casual" focus of the Xbox One with so much emphasis on the Kinect during the early marketing of the system.
If the $399 Kinect-less SKU had been available at launch, it would be a much closer race today.
Sony realized they fucked up with the PS3, so they released a powerful, easy to program PS4 that only cares about playing games.
Microsoft was trying to make the Xbox do too many things and it suffered an identity crisis of sorts.
both Microsoft and Nintendo shot themselves in the foot when they launched their consoles. Sony came out on top by default.
Pretty much.
Pretty much the only reason why PS4 is winning. Xbox would be in an entirely different scenario if they offered flexibility right off the bat and the same price point. He was also in on the basic design and could have went with more power. Instead they focused on the Kinect and that was another Mattrick mistake.
Sony made a gamer's console. MS tried to make a multimedia device. Nintendo tried to... uh I don't know.. make another gamecube?

It needs to be a bloody good reason. Aside from FH2, none of the sub-HD twins are a compelling buy yet.
No clue, but whenever the games appears, I'll go with PlayStation as I always. Right now all current gen consoles don't interest me

you sound like a sensible person. #sonyalltheway
Price and system power (compared to X1) and of course a huge helping hand from MS with one of the worst console launches of all time which attacked the consumer on every level imaginable to be honest I'm amazed the X1 has sold as well as it has done all things considered.
Lower price + better hardware + MS major **** up
In other words, luck. Console players had,a nd still have, 2 choices:
1- Be MS's bitch
2- Be Sony's bitch
Sony ended up being the least aggressive, more friendly dominator of the 2.
And going by that poll, it sure isn't thanks to the amazing exclusive line-up.
The #1 reason is hype which was set up by the failures of Don Mattrick dating back to 2010, word of mouth, the DRM debacle, the price, and did I mention Don Mattrick?
Sony lies and customer misinformation doesn't help either...
There is little difference between multiplats;
Right now the best place to play this holiday as far as exclusives go is on Xbox One.
You could even make an argument for the wii u but the ps4? Outside of indies it's a skeleton line up. Anyone saying the ps4 is the place for games right now needs to lay off the pipe.
The fact that it continues to sell at its current pace is a crime. For cryin out loud you know its a red flag when the company itself doesn't know why it's selling.

but does the average consume distinguish between exclusives and multiplats? or do they just look at what games they like?
Notice how 76% of the reasoning has nothing to do with the ps4 hardware or it's exclusives. That's all you need to know about the sham of this console's success.
@Promised_Trini: You say I'm trying hard but I find this shit way too easy.
Want a tumbler of vodka? I'm having one.

You buy a console for exclusives and that makes you someone's bitch? What are PC gamers are they MS's bitch too? I have a PS4 and game on PC too and soon X1 as well. I guess I'm everyone's bitch well I never knew that before.
-Better first party, so a solid future of exclusive games
-price
-Didn't try to pull of DRM bs like MS
-Positive hype thx to MS fcking up the Xbone launch,...
in other words: LEMMINGS AMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM CRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!
So good games in the future? So you admit that it currently has **** all for games. Got it.
Sony did practically everything better than MS when it came to developing a game console for this new generation. While MS was busy chasing media functions, Sony was busy making a gaming console that was dev friendly, could host a new generation of games without being overly expensive, and most of all Sony promoted it's function as a game machine.
@systemdefender: please explain how exactly its a players console? This drive flop debacle and charging for online play, that has server issues isn't for the players.
Regarding drm Sony wanted to do that themselves. They just got lucky that Microsoft announced it first and they could witness the s=+% storm from gamers. Then they backed off and act like they were never going to do it because they care about the players.
I'd say it's a combination of reputation, and the console designed to appeal more to gaming enthusiasts right from the start.
PlayStations have always had huge support from developers, and they're supported for an extremely long time. The PS4 is a decent upgrade at a reasonable price, and designed to get the developer support again.
The Wii had huge sales from the Wii Sports craze, which died down drastically after several years. The PS3 and Xbox 360 were the consoles which appealed more to gaming enthusiasts in general. Nintendo figured that another wildly different controller would be the way to go again, but it wasn't what gamers or developers in general want.
The Xbox 360 was very similar to the PS3 but then MS focused a lot on Kinect late last gen, which is limited when it comes to games. Then their approach for Xbox One was an "all in one" entertainment device with Kinect being an integral part of it, adding to the price. But again, that's not what console fans generally buy a console for. It's likely the DRM restrictions planned had a negative effect too, not sure how much. However, at least it's a decent upgrade from last gen, and plenty of developers are making games for it. I think giving people the option to buy it without Kinect was a good idea too.
Better tech, Sony swagger, Bloodborne. Price.
MS's complete bed shitting of a reveal probably helped as well.
People want a new console and PS4 is the best now and with all the buzz is the best looking in the future. PC gaming is obviously better overall but there is still room for console gaming (though this gen is it's swan song).
I got one because I'd like to own the last successful console even if it isn't that great.
@SolidGame_basic:
...and you touch on a good point. This is where the power of word of mouth comes in. Consider this scenario:
Two friends go into best buy. One already is on the ps4 and the other is a casual consumer ready to make the jump to next gen.
The casual gamer doesn't know which games are exclusives and which are multiplats( at least initially).
Casual gamer: Wow this game Shadow of morder looks hot. But it's on both consoles.
Hardcore friend: Right now all multiplats look better on ps4.
Casual friend: but looking at the pictures here on the back of each XOne and ps4 box it looks the same.
Fanboy Best Buy employer: Dude the ps4 mostly runs it's games at 1080 while the XOne runs at 720p
Casual gamer: oh gee I guess I should pick up a ps4 then.
KaChing!!
Another ps4 UNJUSTIFIABLY sold.
This scenario seems far fetched but I'm willing to bet it happens way more than you think in some fashion
So notice two lies here:
Most XOne games do not run at 720 and also the game in question runs at 900 which is a big difference from 720.
Consider the scaler in the One and you will not see a difference. As a matter of fact unless you have a 70 inch set you will not really see the benefits of 1080 unless you have a smaller inch set and decide to sit two feet from your 52-incher.
This is what pisses me off about Sony and it's fanbase they are not just riding on hype, they are riding on blatant lies and misinformation.
I will confidently tell anyone to their face that the Xbox one is the better console right now and XOne fans know it and hell even the brain dead cows on this forum knows it:
Games/exclusives: Xbox one
Online: Xbox one (lol@ PSN maintenance and Sony charges)
Controller: Xbox one
UI: Xbox one (pins, apps, fluid movement between games and apps)
Motion camera: Xbox One ( the technology in the kinect camera is superior to the Sony me-too camera by a mile
Multiplats Performance: virtually even; with a slight and I mean a SLIGHT "skin of your teeth" advantage for the ps4. Not even close to being a big enough reason to grab a ps4 when you consider the other areas the Xbox One slaughters the ps4.
Also Ryse is the best looking console game right now
.....and no I do not think the ps4 is more powerful; all I'm gonna say is that the two hardwares are different with Sonys console being the preferred easy way to develop. To be continued folks.....
There's just too much evidence for me not to think otherwise...
Dead games like drive club and infamous that look pretty but are devoid of other features like enemies on screen, number of cars, poor AI, action, etc...
Power is not just represented by visuals folks.
.... Anyway I digress; I'll just say this...
Sony may be able to get away with a shoddy crappy online service, no games, system errors, blue light of death, etc... with die-hard Sony fans but if they continue to release rush jobs like drive club along with the crappy PSN network and their bs scheduled maintenance then the casual ps4 owners will jump over to the Xbox One especially if MS continues to release great exclusives
And for those who jumped on the ps4 coming from 360 well forget it it's a wrap cause you know what they'll end up doing.
Lower price and M$ dropping the ball big time. Lack of competition basically. WiiU is already DOA and Xbone is not gaining much traction at all.
@greensand24:
Your on drugs if you dont think there is a NOTICEABLE difference between 900p and 1080p on a 50+ inch HDTV, the difference is noticeable
And for people saying Ryse is the best looking console game, that's a fucking joke aswell, pre-rendered backgrounds and copy and paste soldiers from afar is the best looking console game? Defitnetly not, although it is probably top 2-3 best looking currently, it is definetly not the best looking console game
All hype because MS shot themselves in the foot, and "mature" kids ignore Nintendo because...Well. Nintendo is so kiddy. How lame. COD makes me feel more older, because it has blood.
All of the above. It has better hardware, better exclusives, multiplat games run better and in higher resolution, PS Plus gives out free games which have always been superior to Xbox's freebies. The system is smaller, lighter, looks better, the controller is better.. basically everything is better. I own both consoles and use my PS4 a lot more than my XBox One.
The truth be told
Lower price + better hardware + MS major **** up
