What is #1 reason why PS4 is winning right now?

Hype and the failures of both Microsoft and Nintendo which has allowed hype to run more rampant. Not lot different from the 5th gen really.

The PS4 is winning because Microsoft shit the bed at E3 with DRM and marketing their product against DRM.

Also, the Wii U just doesn't have wide appeal and the XboxOne is pretty clearly inferior to the PS4. It's not like last gen where it wasn't so clear (between the PS3 and 360).

Because it's a good console with games people want.

I think there's a lot of variables, but the failures of MS and Wii U seemed to have done more to promote the PS4 than anything Sony has done for themselves. I've heard the exact same thing be said as to why the Xbox 360 was so popular, that a great deal of its success was caused by the early failures of Sony with the PS3. Still, I wouldn't exactly equate each situation, MS did really shape standards for console features last gen, more so than anybody has done this gen.

On the MS side their 2013 reveal and E3 presentations were disastrous and really pushed people to the PS4.

I think there's some misunderstanding regarding the MS debacle though. I'm convinced that MS's real and only original sin with the XBO was getting rid of used games, to treat games like PC game licensing rather than tangible things. I'm convinced that there wasn't really a DRM issue until MS decided to reverse its no used game policy, after all the system was designed to have discless play, it makes sense to me that DRM checking and always online weren't an requirement until the reverse of the used game issue, mostly because they tried keeping discless play in the picture which really made the situation for themselves even worse. MS has since remedied this perception, but we lost discless play, but they haven't repaired the momentum this gave Sony.

Regardless though, DRM, used games, online check, whatever... that aside, I still think Sony had an edge on price and hardware. MS releasing a weaker $500 console (which was made more expensive due to Kinect), and Sony releasing a beefier $400 console made the biggest difference when all was said and done.

Because people couldn't wait to abandon the POS3 and I can't blame them whereas 360 owners cling to the awesome 360 though many will likely jump ahead by end of next year.

Sony learned their lesson, making a consumer/dev friendly console from the start (good and balanced hardware, good price, move was optional, not forced online, full third party support, etc). Xbox One is very similar now, but MS needed an avalanche of negative feedbak to realise they were making many bad decisions.

I voted "Other" because I believe it's a host of reasons. I think people learned their lesson about dealing with Microsoft last generation. I think the bad publicity from the Xbone early drove people to Sony.

This pretty much describes me. I'll never own a Microsoft console because I abhor their business practices and I've been satisfied with every Sony system I've ever had.

if it were because of hype alone I think the balloon would have disinflated by now, it's 10 months later after all. I think people believe on the fact that Sony will deliver because they have always done it but there is so much more too. Like: price, size, better multiplat games. PS4 is way faster compared to the Xbone at doing everything too. It's like the roles of PS3 and 360 were interchanged because now the one with the slow updates and game installations is the Xbone instead of the PS4. On PS4 you just start playing the game and installations and updates are all done in the background seamlessly. Not even PC can compete on this aspect.

Like every other next gen system.

SONY being synonymous with world class gaming couple with their unrelenting focus and execution of the by gamers for gamers mantra. To help things out MS shit the bed at their reveal and go knocked the **** out at E3.

I agree. It's a very capable machine that's enough for what most people want from a hardware perspective. It gets the multiplats and it gets Sony exclusives. All for $400. What's not to like?

Price, but also the perception that it's more powerful, thereby increasing the value proposition to those concerned with graphics above ancillary functionality (media). People viewed it as a classic example of getting more for less.

$100 dollars cheaper than Xbox and probably the clown show of a conference microsoft hosted this year. Sony really won over the masses after that whole debacle.

Their competition is the Wii U and the Xbone. Just going by their names you can tell they're a joke.

The Wii U misses out on almost every 3rd party game. While the Xbone has had 180s since launch and is now pretty much identical to the PS4 in every way except its inferior, and while PS4 owners are waiting for greatness, Xbone owners are just waiting.

The choice was/is clear for gamers this gen.

I honestly think its brand recognition. PS has lead in 3/4 gens they have been involved in. They are the heavyweight, grand pubs, the lead horse, Rudolph, whatever description for the world wide favorite. I expect them to lead each gen. That's why last gen made for some of the most fun. We had petitions to stop 3rd party devs from essentially making more income because they should be loyal to Sony. Their fans are the most emotional and its funny.

Mostly Hype, horrible long term memory, and the notion that good games will likely come out on it (I can Count 2 or so that I am fairly certain will be quite good).

But mostly Hype, so far no games have proven better then on other platforms, and the exclusives have been lackluster to put it mildly.

In truth ofcourse it is a Whole lot of Things. MS and Ninty messed up their console launches, the Price was farily low compared to the competition, and the beforementioned hype.

Because its PLAYSTATION, the #1 leader in console sales worldwide since 1995 with the best 1st party. I don't get why xbots are so surprised. PS1 and 2 sold at least 100mil each and PS3 basically tied the 360 despite its slow start. Its like soccer vs American football. Playstation is just a more popular brand
