I've never played Crysis and I'm not bashing it in any way, but without the good graphics what would Crysis be. Would it still have the same appeal?

I ask this because a lot of people on these boards talk about how graphics don't matter. In my opinion, graphics play a big role in the overall experience of a game. Games like Killzone, Crysis, and Uncharted wouldn't have the same appeal without the graphics.

Wouldn't you rather have a game that played well and looked good instead of having one or the other?

What do you think? Are graphics that big of a deal, and have they influenced your gaming purchases?

I spent more time playing the Crysis demo than a lot of "full" games this generation. Crysis is a very solid open-world shooter. Though, a large reason as to why it is so good, is the technology behind it allows for more options and possibilities for "fun" for the gamer.

Crysis is a very enjoyable shooter, of course the technology it has (Not only visually) allows it to surpass most fps'es out today.

When I first played it i thought it was boring, lost interest after the first hour or two. Then i came back to it around the time Warhead was released and thought it was the best FPS i've played this gen. I was playing on low/medium settings.

still a fnatastic FPS. huge open levels where the player has to think about their approach to taking on the enemy..yknow...a FPS that requires a bit of brain as well as brawn. as for the overall question.....i like a good looking game that plays well. however what defines a good looking game? ive been playing chrono trigger on my DS...a snes game. still a very nice looking game also and one that i have been enjoying alot. my fav lookin game this gen is a PS2 and wii game....okami. obhiously other games are technically alot better....but when i just stand back and look at them....im drawn to okami. other people dont like the way it looks...thats fine..its all opinion. so what defines a good looking game is really just an opinion.

Nothing. Without graphics, do you think Crysis would ever be brought up at all. NO it isnt innovating anything.

Bu bu bu...Teh NANOSOOT! No, plenty of games have that same mechanic and do it just as well or better. Game isnt that great. And SURE AS HECK isnt best fps of any gen ever.

Crysis without graphics would be a text-based game.

You can't have a videogame without graphics of some kind.

I had heard so much about Crysis and its graphics that when I finally got the game I thought it was JUST great graphics.

But when I played the game on my new pc i built, I was simply BLOWN AWAY by the gameplay and sound editing.

Having beat both Crysis and Crysis Warhead, I must admit that GAMEPLAY is the #1 thing that came to mind when I think of Crysis.. not graphics.

Extremely underrated game as far as gameplay, level design and sound editing goes imo. Also has some good AI to!

The thing about Crysis is that its simply amazing how many options and ways you can go about doing most missions. Everytime I played the first 1/2 of Crysis i do it completely differnt the the last times.

Anyone who says nothing is a console fanboy who hasn't played Crysis. The physics system alone with the fully destrucatable environments as well as the size of the island and the vehicles make it better than most games the generation.

LOL If Crysis didn't have its graphics it would still have massive maps and awesome physics and AI which have yet to be seen on any console game. You consolites don't how much fun it is chopping trees down with guns and smashing down buildings with grenades and your powersuit, or even shooting a fast moving vehicle in the wheel so it flips over destroying its self etc....

Crysis was a improve over Far Cry, that was a awesome game but with useless stealth mechanics, a overpowered A.I. and a sometimes fustrating difficulty. They made the new game more friendly to not hardcore users, with more freedom and different tactical approaches available, and much, much better technical department.

To be honest I must say that Far Cry was a kind of surprise not repeated with Crysis, but to be fair also I must said that Crysis is Far Cry polished and with a lot more production values inside.

lol, you do know there are games called battlefield and red faction on consoles that can do the large majority of what you just said. try harder next time.

It still has the best FPS campaign this gen IMO.

It uses its tech to its advantage, bringing an engaging FPS experience like no other. The game is meant to be played on Delta, and it all depends on how you use the tools in the campaign's first half.

Warhead is also a great change of pace.

The first time I played Crysis I didn't own a computer powerful enough to max it out (it was a sad time for me as a gamer, truly :( ). I had to play it on a mixture of medium and low settings at the meager resolution of 1280x1024.

And I absolutely loved it. It is one of my favorite FPS games this gen. Sure, great graphics can add to an experience (this obviously goes for technical AND artistic ones), but as long as they aren't horrible, a game doesn't lose too much by not having them.

And I absolutely loved it. It is one of my favorite FPS games this gen. Sure it wouldn't get as much attention on System Wars if it wasn't the undisputed graphics king of everything that needed be brought up in every graphics thread ever, but what does popularity on System Wars mean? Nothing at all. The best PC game of this gen, and best multiplayer strategy game of all time, Sins of a Solar Empire, isn't talked about at all, and I just explained how I feel on that game...

Some people really do hate Crysis, nothing worse than a constant reminder you cannot buy a low cost mass produced console and get the best tech the industry has the offer.

That's why despite the user feedback and reviews it gets bashed to hell, then they go play Call of Duty X that does nothing special at all.

I'm too tired to put up with consolite propaganda right now, night.

i dunno any game no matter how good it is you get used to the graphics after maybe an hour and after that gameplay is what carries the game

i mean take for instance killzone 2, nobody friggin talks about the graphics with that game it was all talk about sluggish controls or multiplayer or annoying boss fight or whatever

so yeah Crysis is fun without the godly graphics, i think the only time it goes downhill gameplay wise is when you get to the aircraft carrier, but before that it's fun

The graphics aren't what make it fun. It's the "veni vidi vici" gameplay that does.

So long as the jungle provided cover and concealment the way the real thing did, I'd still play Crysis minus fancy graphics. Worse case, the graphics would be a repeat of Far Cry's which I still like to look at even now. If there was a nanosuit and line of sight mod for Far Cry, I'd load it up again.

I kind of wished Crytek would redo Far Cry with the C2 engine.

Of course the game wouldn't be as good if the graphics were worse. People like to deny it, but graphics are part of a game directly relevant to the quality of the experience. If all you're asking is: Is Crysis a good game? By and far, its a great game.

questioning crysis would be the same as questioning any game this gen

dont let the graphics fool you, (in a good way, and in a bad way)

good graphics dosent mean bad gameplay.

but good graphics dont mean good game either.

a game is the combination of diffrent types of media, and each pice itself brings something to the table

the result what you get is the sum of its parts

The worst case graphics for Crysis would be Far Cry's.....

I don't have any problems with Far Cry's foliage. So long as I can actually hide and seek cover in it.

I played the Crysis demo on all low settings at 800x600 resolution and a passable 15-20 fps. I still enjoyed it more than most shooters I've played this generation. And it was a single level demo on the lowest possible settings (which didn't include any of the advanced physics or other CPU-heavy features). I'm not directing this at you, but I find the "Crysis is nothing without its graphics" mentality quite over-played, and usually comes from people who haven't played the game, on either low or high settings.
