Even without everything on highest it is still one of the finest FPS around since HL2.

By the time it was released, It was as much praised by it's graphics than it was bashed for the system breaker that it was, like in that imbecile review by IGN AU where the reviewer completely dismissed the game because it was beyond what the "mortal man" could afford. I wonder if the game had graphics only a muchbetter (insteadof being insanely more advanced)than all the shooters of 2007, and because of that ran better, how would the overall score be - it could actually bebetter...

Crysis without it's graphics would be Far Cry with a Nanosuit, and i'll just say, i loved the hell out of far cry.

A lot of games I like I probably wouldn't have enjoyed nearly as much without the graphics.

When it first came out I played it on Low and I still found it very enjoyable. On higher settings the game does get better because of the physics but on Low it's still a very good game. Chances are if you think Graphics is the only thing the game has is graphics then you haven't played it.

Crysis is an incredible game, both gameplay and graphics. However, the story is rather mediocre, especially Crysis WARHEAD. The scene were Psycho tries to cry is seriously some of the worse stuff I've ever seen in my life. If they would combine the Halo Universe with the gameplay and graphics from Crysis I think it could probaly be the best FPS ever created.

A mediocre shooter. I found it mediocre with the visuals, though.

What would Crysis be without the graphics? A game in development hell. But seriously, the graphics were incredible, increasing the overall experience of the game, but, Crysis is indeed a fine game, much better than the generic console crap that's being released, yes Halo 3, I'm looking at you.

Not even going to vite because I dislike the topic. Crysis without it's top notch graphics is a great game with great gameplay with a decent/good story.

It's the best shooter of 2007 and one of the best of the decade. I played Crysis at low at 800x600 FYI.

[QUOTE="Skittles_McGee"]Of course the game wouldn't be as good if the graphics were worse. People like to deny it, but graphics are part of a game directly relevant to the quality of the experience. If all you're asking is: Is Crysis a good game? By and far, its a great game.foxhound_fox

I played the Crysis demo on all low settings at 800x600 resolution and a passable 15-20 fps. I still enjoyed it more than most shooters I've played this generation. And it was a single level demo on the lowest possible settings (which didn't include any of the advanced physics or other CPU-heavy features). I'm not directing this at you, but I find the "Crysis is nothing without its graphics" mentality quite over-played, and usually comes from people who haven't played the game, on either low or high settings.

I'm in the same boat: played the demo on all low settings, 800x600 resolution, ~15 FPS. It was still pretty fun. I can't say it was mind-blowingly awesome, but it was fun enough that I've went back and played through the demo probably five times now.

without its graphics, it would still be the winner of 2007's shooter GOTY over COD4, Halo3, Bioshock etc...

it would be no different than all the other shooters out there right now... only it has pretty open gampley compared to most shooters. minus the aliens, i'd play crysis without the graphics any day of week over call of duty, halo, etc (singleplayer mode). heck, i played on a 7600gt from nvidia up until the aliens level. It did not look very good, but i enjoyed it.

A really good game with great open world gameplay, solid shooting mechanics, great physics, a nano suit, and the Sandbox editor all in one package. Crysis and even Crysis: Warhead are some of the best shooters of the decade. There is much more to the series than just graphics.

without the graphics quality being where it is crysis would be just as fun as it is now.

without graphics it would be nothing but that applies to all games. fact is graphics is the single most important part of a game. suggesting anything else is asinine.

it's a decent shooter, fun to play till you finish it.

i played it on medium/ high settings and the game was quite fun, btw i choose the first choice in the poll, gfx are really important to me, they dun have to be WOOW, but they at least should be good.

game play is boring. powers are under used and the guns are feel kinda generic . You walk around with bushes that are like like a nanoe meter apart then 6 koreans randmly spawn then yell yanky or what ever . open world is pointless with a linar story .

You sound like you've never even touched the game. Powers are under used. Yeah right. You use it whenever you want. The envrionment is vaired always, it's not endless jungle. Koreans don't spawn, they are there doing things like pissing and talking when you aren't anywhere near them. And finally the path is not linear. Crysis's mission have 2-4 paths to them and combine this with powers and you've got endless replay. heck GTA 4 didn't even have this, just the same mission with some choices thrown in. And I play on medium and low settings so I couldn't care less about the graphics.

Sounds like we have an uncover fanboi.

i agree, the max power was the only unneccessary power, speed and defense were essential for me to beat the game.

Haha under used power? The only person that can under use the power is you. I have a feeling you havnt touched the game.

Whats with all the gameplay hate on this game? I'm a console gamer and Crysis is a fantastic FPS. I dont really like the genre, but Crysis is amazing and much more fun than generic Halo, CoD, etc.

I spent more time playing the Crysis demo than a lot of "full" games this generation. Crysis is a very solid open-world shooter. Though, a large reason as to why it is so good, is the technology behind it allows for more options and possibilities for "fun" for the gamer.

foxhound_fox

This, this, a thousand times this.

Also, the poll's jacked up. Where's the "I want both" option?

I think the most impressive thing about Crysis is that, no matter where you are in the game world, every enemy in every part of the game world is still active at that moment. Just for fun, if anyone gets bored some time, put in an older FPS game and enable no-clipping. If you go up a bit, just outside the roof of the level, and then move around, you'll find all sorts of enemies standing around waiting for you to enter their zone so that their AI can run. In Crysis you could do this and the AI would still be going, because it runs independent of your location.

heh, max power is probably the most useful for me. Its great for breaking in and out of houses quicker, and for throwing a guard into another guard, and killing the small aliens

I've never played Crysis and I'm not bashing it in any way, but without the good graphics what would Crysis be. Would it still have the same appeal?

I ask this because a lot of people on these boards talk about how graphics don't matter. In my opinion, graphics play a big role in the overall experience of a game. Games like Killzone, Crysis, and Uncharted wouldn't have the same appeal without the graphics.

Wouldn't you rather have a game that played well and looked good instead of having one or the other?

What do you think? Are graphics that big of a deal, and have they influenced your gaming purchases?

A big fat no, would be the answer since everytime I ask that they don't respond or obviously bs about how they have played it.

Crysis raises the expectations for every shooter to follow when it comes to graphics, interactivity, environments, immersiveness, AI, and gameplay. Quite simply, Crysis represents the first-person shooter at its finest, most evolved form.

I don't think GameSpot would say that lightly. Graphics are just the icing on the cake I believe. But I still haven't played it, want to, but cannot.

I have and I agree. It would be like any other FPS. The main reason bring it up to this day is for graphics threads. When have you gone into a FPS thread and see, "OH crysis's fps mechanics are better!" or "Man that was copied off of crysis!" Never. Never I say! No one remembers crysis for story or gameplay.

The graphics were pretty, but I thought the gameplay was great. The nano-suit allowed for multiple solutions to situations, the physics were good, destructable environments, good weapons, challenging AI, nice sound, and great sandbox approach to the game. Yeah, that game would be junk if the graphics weren't there...

EDIT: To the people that seem to slam this game: Do you have a system that can run it? Whenever a game comes out with the massive requirments that Crysis demanded, people cry about it. Guess what? That's PC gaming. Make more money to upgrade your rig or get a console. Simple. :D

A great sandbox shooter. The gunplay is very good, the AI is solid for the most part, and the game environment is dynamic and fun to play around in. Plus you get so much freedom with how you progress in the game, especially on Delta. Few games make you feel like such a badass. The gameplay itself isn't always so seemless there are times when the game feels like more tech demo than full game. But overall the gameplay in Crysis fantastic. But you know that requires someone actually playing the game to know what they are talking about.

What's any game without the graphics? What's Uncharted without the graphics? What's Gears of War without the graphics? What's Killzone 2 without the graphics? What's Heavy Rain without the graphics? See, you can spin this on any game you want, but at the end of the day, it won't matter. I haven't played Crysis, so I can't comment, but I've read and heard it's a good FPS.

I'm not trying to convince people to play PC games. I don't care what people play. I play both console and PC games and I'm a fan of both. It's just a fact. Every few years a system shaking game will come out and everyone starts to cry(Doom 3, Everquest 2, Crysis...this list goes on). And those that cry have the same two arguments every time. 1.) Omg PC gaming is just too expensive because you need to upgrade your hardware. 2.) "Insert game name" is just all graphics, no gameplay. Blah blah blah. Crysis has both is all I'm saying. I think that makes some people mad and I think it's related to the fact that PC gaming can be expensive.

The insecurity seeping from the console end regarding this game is incredible, I stand by my original response in this thread.

Halo 3 is the average fps here. What did Halo offer to the table eh? Crysis had a big open world, fully destructible environments, vehicles, customizable weapons, and of course the Nano Suit. It's not your average fps mate....Wait till you get Crysis 2 on the consoles you will be amazed.

Ok I admit it's not average. It's just boring.

Even without the graphics, Crysis would still be one of the best FPS games of all time. The Nanosuit functions alone separate it from 99% of other generic shooting games. The ability to turn invisible, run at turbo speed, use maximum armor or strength really adds to the gameplay experience. The only FPS game that I can think of that beats Crysis gameplay innovation is BioShock.

Crysis in short is one of the best shooters we have had this generation. And a great step above games that follow the same shooter tropes, or tropes they have established and stuck to. Be it Killzone, Call of Duty, Halo and Half Life. Which is why a game like Crysis, despite its visual prowess shouldn't detract from the fact that its game design is truly something unique, and up there with shooters like STALKER, Cryostasis, Left 4 Dead and (yes) Bioshock this generation as far as originality goes.
