What you think doesn't matter. Red is still red, you think it changes because in your opinion it is blue? When we compare games we like to compare them based on facts we CAN compare. You can't compare the Halo Universe to the Crysis Universe, because that's based on appeal. We compare the available weaponry and their balance, the scale of environment, the amount of possibilities you can play the game (stealthy, one-man army, etc), advanced tech that allow different kind of gameplay (try using grass/bushes as cover in other games), we can go on and on.

In conclusion Crysis is a better shooter then any other. You don't like the Crysis Universe? Sure, that's fine, neither do I prefer it. You don't like the setting, that's fine too. Nothing of this matters because it is the core that is important everything else is just a jacket that puts it in a certain theme, environment, setting.

This "MY OPINION" thing is getting out of control.

CAPSROGUE

I agree with you. The core of crysis is an fps. as an fps it does what all other fps's do. Does it do it better is up to the player. In this argument that i was having tough, I had to like crysis for it's unique style of gameplay (open environment as opposed to linear) and if I didn't like it I wasn't playing the game the "right" way. This is ridiculous. And I didn't compare a sci-fi open shooter to a fiction fps *first*. I would have compared crysis to any game it would be either Far Cry 1 or 2 or even Fallout 3 *now that I think about it*. And my original point was where in SW have you seen a topic about FPS's and Crysis comes up in almost every other post? Hardly. But put up a graphics thread and it will dominate. Never did I say the game was crap or didn't deserve its praise. I just didn't enjoy it as much as certain people here.

When it comes down to "best FPS of all time" everything needs to be top notch people tend to remember the great single-player experiences. Crysis' story is quite lackluster, nor is the universe as compelling as Half-Life or Halo. The core, the underlying structure however is superior to anything else. Sure you can play Crysis much like any other shooter, but it allows you to do more. If I stop shooting everything and just melee everything down, does this mean it is inferior because I decided not to shoot? Ofc not, so you shouldn't exclude any gameplay features either even if you don't use them, especially when there's absolutely no reason to not use them.

Show me any shooter then can play like this :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ore80pmNEso

Yes that was impressive. But how many people could have done this in their first or even second playthough. This person must have played this game pretty extensively to be able to do something like that. I wasn't that interested in doing such things after my first play through. I didn't really feel it. Now don't get me wrong I did try the mechanics. I did try mixing the strength with speed and used stealth when I needed it. But I felt it got in the way sometimes. Like I said I'm not saying the game is bad but in the end it's and FPS just like Halo, Killzone and others. I higher class FPS maybe, but still an FPS.

I'm on my first play through and using all the suit powers, what's the point in not doing it? It's the same as people who complain about GoW3 being a button masher, of course it is if you let it be, the idea is to vary combos so you don't get bored.

I did use all the powers in my first and second playthrough when I upgraded my PC. I used them especially when I needed them. For example, the part just before you meet prophet at the cave entrance, there's a whole squad looking for you patrolling the area. I used a combo of stealth and speed to run past a small group undetected and used stealth and strength to get over some rocks and take out some troops in the process. I don't think GOW is a button masher at all. Especially GOW where you switch between weapons on the fly and need to use certain combos with each weapon to make an epic chain reaction of kills.

Crysis without the graphics is still a good game, although perhaps not as spectacular an experience.

I haven't played it,but it would probably still be great. If a game has great graphics, but horrible gameplay, it's going to suck.

Whoa, you mean people had differing opinions? :o

I'm gonna have to sit down and ponder this revelation. In the meantime, you should note that you claimed Gamespot overrated the game, but a quick look at the game's Metacritic score says Gamespot was far from alone.

Or you could, well, you know, actually play the game sometime. Crazy notion, that.

no need to be a nub, i actually have a photobucket account under mtradr43 that has crysis warhead shots i took myself. ive played them both, found them both average. the original wasnt even in the top three best fps games for a lot of critics, and warhead was even worse.

Cute "nub" comment. Next time I'll scour photobucket for someone's account before I post :| Point being though. Gamespot isn't the only one to have praised Crysis as much as they did. For whatever reason you found it average. They and many others did not.

I don't think people understood what I was trying to say with my original topic. I used crysis as an example because is one of the best, if not the best looking games out right now. Basically what I was trying to say was that within context, graphics do play a big part in the overall experience of a game. In fact I wasn't just referring to console or PC games, this also applys to handhelds. Games with good graphics and good gameplay offer a more complete experience; it doesn't matter if the game is as simple as tetris or as technical as Dungeons and Dragons.

Many people downplay the role of graphics in ones overall enjoyment of a game. All I am saying is that graphics are important just like gameplay is important.

Crysis--without its outstanding graphics--would be a a fun open-world shooter. Nothing will have changed. I ran it at medium settings on dx9 back when it was released.

I agree. The graphics make the game more immersive but the core gameplay is good enough to stand on its own. Period.

Without graphics Crysis is still a game that allows me to scale a small mountain to reach an enemy base through the rear. it isa game that allows me to kill people from a kilometer away. It allows me to throw a enemy through a house. It allows me to cut down trees with bullets. It allows me freedom and spurns creativity in my actions. I'd say there is a lot to be had even if it looked 10 years old.

I'd play amazing graphics. But I'm trying to put amazing graphics with poor animations. That's what I'd buy. Amazing graphics come with great animations regardless. Gameplay is just moving sticks and pushing buttons. Not that fun by itself.

but that applies for any game would uncharted 2 be as great an experience on the wii assuming they downgrade nothing except graphical detail(as in same scale and number of enemies)? no doubt it has great gameplay buts its a very cinematic game and the great graphics add to the experience.

I played Crysis for maybe couple of hours, and I think it's the best FPS I've ever played. Anyway if a game's gameplay is really good then I wouldn't be bothered with bad graphics.

I lost interest in Crysis after putting in half a dozen hours of gameplay.

Not knocking it or anything, but I guess I'm just not into the open world FPS. The action is just too far in between. I'd much rather prefer a story driven shooter title like Bioshock.

This is still going? Honestly this is why I'm starting to become irritated by the mainstream.

The mainstream buys freaking horse armour and justified its existence, now they are encouraging the mediocrity of gaming; by calling games that actually do something different "generic" and then cheering about paying more for a shorter Modern Warfare X.

You enabled this industry to exploit and stagnate, you're killing it with your ridiculous quality demands, you're almost as damaging to gaming as freaking casuals.

Crysis sucks because it's way too complicated.

games like COD, I can't get lost because I know where I need to go. The developers made sure I can't go anywhere else.

As for the gameplay itself, its sucks. first time I played Crysis, I saw a bunch of korean a mile away, so I ran into them shooting evrywhere, and ¤¢¬¤, I just keept getting killed. I tried to find them after reloading, but I got lost and got killed by a falling tree I shot, WTH, how come a tree can kill me.

Apparently I should have used something I have never herd before... Strategy?????

I'M HERE TO PLAY, NOT DO A FREAKING eval of the area. Why can't I just kill those people plain and simple.

Terrible gameplay.... I have to put the game one ultra easy just to finish the first level...

I saw the map for the second level, and I just quit, way too many ways to go to understand where I have to shoot. I JUST WANT TO SHOOT PEOPLE.

GO play COD...

Eh. It would be a C-list sci-fi shooter.

This guy has got to be a fake boy, console gamers wouldn't insult themselves in this manner.

Indeed I am... Was I really this obvious?????

seriously, there are so many ways to play crysis, I honestly can't understand why some people can hate it... It has everything done right...

great gameplay, great physics, great AI(most of the time),

All there is to hate is the performance requirement...

Don't bother, they think their opinions (probably uninformed/biased ones) hold more weight than pretty much every review on the Internet.

Oblivion is a very highly rate game and lots of people don't like it.

Assassin's Creed got a 9.0 here on GameSpot and most would agree it doesn't deserve it.

GTA4 got a 10 but it's one heck of a shallow game for a lot of people.

Halo 3 got a 9.5 and other high scores, but it's hardly a great FPS either.

So as you can see, a general score doesn't mean everyone is going to like it, and it doesn't mean those people are uninformed or biased.

Personally I have played through Crysis and I didn't think much of it. Excuse me for have different taste.

Crysis is a great shooter that is quite unique in what you can do.. Rarely are you forced into narrow parts of the game where you have little you can do in options.. And even then those sections were made very uniquely like the zero-g combat within the mountain.

All I see is the majority of people jumping in here, calling the game generic, then running off before they are made to elaborate on their accusation. People made to elaborate on their accusations pull the preference/opinion card, as if that's a suitable counter argument when they were passing their opinion off as fact.

I'm getting a increasingly worse opinion of mainstream gamers because they seem to hate innovation and progress, all they care about is the next disposable gaming series sequel. They accuse Crysis of being a typical shooter and then they go play a dime a dozen game like MW or COD.

You see this thread is prime example on why Crytek are going to need to dumb down Crysis 2 to make it sell well on consoles. It's obvious the gameplay in Crysis would be too much for the consolities, it's too open ended. Too many possibilities. They will probably see a armored vehicle and then have a cataclysm because the game didn't tell them if they should drive it or run and shoot.

Yawn. I'm a consolite, and I had no trouble finishing Crysis and Warhead on hard. But by all means, keep pretending that your games are just too complex for our simple minds to grasp.

The complete lack of any decent thinking games on a platform which poses no technical barriers for it does raise a few questions worth asking.

Let's face it, Crysis, would be nothing if it didnt have those graphics, people who disagree are lying to themselves. n00bkid
Crysis would certainly not be the same game without its draw distance or foliage, but otherwise, its a solid game. The game could look like Far Cry and still be a solid game.

It would help if detractors provided specifics and expanded on them.

For example in Crysis, I found that stage where my character piloted a transport and avoiding tornados extremely out of place in the game. Of all the levels, it seemed very tacked on. I felt the same way about the train in Warhead until someone here told me I can dismount from it and continue on foot.

I had no difficulty finishing the game in Delta settings. I'm not as good as some who can probably take on the whole game(s) without cloaking. But, it did seem a bit on the easy side with the cloak. That said, I still replay the levels I like in both Crysis and Warhead.
