MGS has has spanned over a decade

gears came out like 4 years ago, and restricted to xbox/PC.

i think MGS is more popular, especially outside the states. gears might be more popular in US though.

I belive you'd need to send out a census to each household with a gaming console to figure out such a thing. Which none of us will do for you, so thanks for wasting out time.

Tough question. I would say MGS because it's been made for 3 console generations and multiple titles on handhelds, including an awful Iphone game.

Metal Gear Solid seems to be a more popular franchis then Gears Of War. And as time passes by it's gonna keep shifting in Metal Gear Solids favor until Gears Of War is a forgotten game.

Metal Gear Solid. Although, recently it might be Gears of War.

metal gear solid is a LEGENDARY series TC. Dont EVER mention gears of war and MGS in the same sentence. maybe to a 14 year kid in high school gears of war is appealing. but historically gears of war will be remebered as a generic alien shooter that mainstreamed a cover mechanic in 3rd person shooters. thats it. MGS in history will be remebered as EPIC video game/story saga. metal gear solid 3 is the greatest game of all time imo.

Critics/sw= Uncharted, mostly do to uncharted 2.

Going into the 3's

Sales=Gears, microsoft will market the ***** out of it.

Critics/SW= Uncharted. When the part 2's hit, 1 left a sour taste, and one blew expectations out of the water. Not to mention shooter fatigue is setting in, and pure shooters are loosing favor fast. Uncharted being an action game avoids allot of this. Gears, not so much.

No it started on the MSX.

Edit: I forgot MSX didn't make it to NA so for NA is started on NES but the rest of the world it started on MSX. (NES version was a port of the MSX version)

Presently, Gears probably. Gears 1 and 2 each sold more than MGS4.

If you were to ask everyone in my high school obviously Gears of War is the more popular franchise, but for a "niche" franchise like MGS I think you'd be surprised how many people know of it.Not-A-Stalker

Have yet to fire up MGS 4. But I know it will be worth the wait.

I just started Uncharted: DF. I don't have a lot of time to game. Plus a nice back-log of great games to play.

I am waiting for a long stretch where I can play for hours. Seems like a heavy, immersive game. I need to be in the right frame of mind for something that great.

To experienced, veteran or adult gamers in general, MGS.

To young or inexperienced gamers that at least only played MGS4, probably Gears.
