on pc games playing at 30 fps is chugging. if we are maxing it should be smooth as butter, no hiccups. that means at least 60 fps.lespaul1919

You have no clue what you're talking about.

I recorded some Alien Swarm footage a couple days ago. Recording with FRAPS means that you must limit the in-game framerate to the recorded framerate when FRAPS is actively recording. In this case, it was 30 fps (because I'd need a SSD or RAID array to record much higher @1080p.)

Normally (when not recording) the game runs at 80-200 fps, depending on the scene. There was no significant difference playing at the now-limited 30 fps and the previous ~100 fps..and, to be honest, it's BEYOND ridiculous to call that "chugging." Also: I probably don't need to remind you that it's a miracle when a 360/PS3 game these days can stay above 30 fps.

Maxing out what the game can deliver means you will need to run it at 2560x1600 resolution. I'm sure 99% of the gamers failed already.

Most games dont show noticable aliasing with even 6x super-sampling...ColdfireTrilogy

I think you got your terms mixed up there or something..

That's like saying "your hamburger would be cooked pretty well if you just tossed it into the full-blown fury of 1,000 suns."

Super-sampling is incredibly costly and taxing on any system. Especially 6x (which I've never even heard of. Not sure if it's possible on even the most modern GPUs.) Enabled, that would mean a 1080p image would internally be rendered at 11520x6480 >_>..

Problem is, like you say, the upper-tier AA methods don't offer significant image quality improvement at high resolutions. I can't really see any difference going from ~8xQMSAA to 2xSSAA, for example..

HUH? Why 2560x1600? Makes no sense anymore... since now it's easy to combine monitors to have a bigger resolution.
