A lot of people agree that the PSP was a learning experience for Sony. So, with that in mind, what do you guys think they're going for with the Vita? So far, it's become clear that they focused on a solid launch collection, which IMO is among the better system launches. But now they've been hit with an inevitable dip; in Japan, this is being felt exceptionally acutely. And yet, there's no way Sony didn't know this wasn't coming. To make matters worse, excepting Gravity Rush (and potentially Soul Sacrifice), their first party games have been delegated to second-tier studios, which has resulted in poorer quality than their console counterparts. Sony MUST be aware of this - should they not just invest in some heavy hitters, and prepare for an awesome E3? What are your thoughts?

Maybe price cut?

Nintendo did that with 3DS's launch being failure.

A price cut should help them alot. Of course it'll mean huge losses but it'll help them... Somehow.

A price cut without the games won't help. Remember, the 3DS did not start selling until Mario and Mario Kart hit.

Resistance is coming, nothing I like, but it should sell a couple of Vitas here and there.

People who own it will buy it. People who don't own one will probably want to play it. I'm only making an assumption here, in my case, I could care less for Resistance, it won't make me buy a Vita.

Agreed. Sony needs to show off a game that makes our jaws drop. Second-rate and "safe" middle-ground games just won't cut it anymore. Take this as an example: what if Nintendo unveiled Startropics for the Wii U? The yo-yo, the exploration, the goofy cave monsters? It has the potential to be HUGE. There would be shouts of excitement from the audience.

It was the only thing selling PS3s besides... well the PS3 at its launch!

I don't even think Resistance did that well on the PSP and the last one of the PS3 did not do so well, I found it unexpected they came out with another on the vita.

The Vita will be fine. It's an awesome handheld. I'm fully confident that at E3, Sony will announce some big games. You will hopefully see black ops 2 running on it and a GTA 5 port will be announced. In the meantime, mortal kombat, resistance, and gravity rush are all coming in the next month. Most of the people I talk to are really interested in getting one, even more so than the 3DS, it's just the high price holding them back. If they can drop it by 50 bucks and have a good E3, it will be fine.

I'm actually not surprised they're making one. Actually I expected one at launch but instead came up with Uncharted. I wish more original stuff was being made instead of ports and crap. :(

I'm interested in buying one. My problem is I don't know which one to get first, 3DS or Vita.

The problem is not the current line up it's the future lineup. Good games take 2 to 3 years to make. When the PSP first game out many companies bet on it and there was a nice lineup of games. When the DS started to be a success that many companies had bet against many companies jumped ship and the PSP library died out. The same thing can happen to the Vita if you own a company and you have to look at who to make your next game for, it's hard to put money on a gut filling you have to go by the numbers. So yes E3 might have some good games that were already being made, the question will be a year from now will we still see a large number of 3rd party games coming out for the system.

The strategy is pretty much the same as psp, as close to a console experience as they can on the go.Though they are trying to expand the audience with touchscreen just as 3ds is with analog.

Has there ever been a console or handheld that launched with a year full of one hit title after another? I cant remember one. So why then should we expect Vita to have hit after hit for its first year?

Sony's handheld strategy is to pack as much features as possible into a device, even though most users or games wont ever use them.

it just needs a price cut and some games, its way to early in its life to be calling it a failure.

How bout shipping the console with a freaking memory chip and make the memory chip the same price of a standard SD chip.. At this time they are twice the price of similar memory capacity, the only difference is the Sony chip is needed to run on the Vita.. I give Sony the finger for this and pretty much HOPE the VITA fails for the first 6 months to lead them to actually change to this, and to illustrate that they should never stick to strategies like this again.

They have to build a stronger lineup of games. They have games like MK, Resistance, LBP etc. coming out soon but I'd wait for E3 to see what kind of games they have coming out from third party developers. Sony's probably trying to lineup a strong holiday lineup .... they really need one and a price cut wouldn't hurt.

Psp did have more variety I got 3 games but otherwise I still was happy with vita launch and we have a 360 here if i had a desire to play it.. Ninja gaiden was enough for me tell unit 13 came out a few days later.

Or just screw Japan. They are going to end up doing it, if they stop denying they can get their sales up if they just focus on the U.S. and U.K.

Well, if Sony can get the following out by years end I believe they'll be good: MGS Collection Final Fantasy X Final Fantasy Type-0 Zone of Enders Collection Oddworld: Munch's Odyssee Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath Little Big Planet Killzone Bioshock Call of Duty Ragnarok Odyssey Chances for that happening are slim though.

Not really. The 3DS didn't do much better game-wise when it first launched. All things considering I do believe that Sony has a decent lineup, a decent amount of games coming in the near future and a good amount of games for later.

Their strategy shouldn't be to make miniture versions of PS3 games on a handheld but instead making new franchises with new ideas that cater to handheld gamers. Seriously rolled my eyes when I heard of a new Uncharted/Resistance coming to the Vita. Same with CoD.. No interest what so ever for buying a handheld gaming console for those games.

Poor design choices. Should have been bigger--7inches.
