Hello friends,

So recently i tried out quake champions because its free and which i think is best MP game this gen. it feel fast, and like old quake games and even for this. i stopped playing it after 5 hours. and uninstalled it because i was so bored of it. it make me realize that even a good MP game is not addicting then how come bad ones like COD/BF/pubg etc???

I tried CSGO which is most popular game on steam. and i end up hating it because its community is terrible. they kick you because you are not doing what they want you do. terrible. i used to like CS 1.6 but cant bear CSGO. its terrible. its like valve donot care about this game at all.

I like Titanfall 2 only for SP. tried MP and it was just meh. and the problem with modern MP games is you have gun shooting enemy and wasting ammos but he can kill you with one knife. terrible design.

theres more of example that i donot need to mention yearly rehashes sold at full price (COD and BF).

I just dont get any of MP games. what makes them good?

To me its about looking cool and having good looking items to show off to everyone in the game and to get first place in score and to show off again like that

I dunno if some multiplayer games let you show off like that if they don't they probably suck like battlefield yuck

What is there to say? They're fun.

Playing with other humans is another thing than playing with bots and scripted enemies/npcs. If you want a competition, show that you're better than others, improve your skills, you have MP games. You get a different kick out of them.

I'm personally only playing Overwatch right now as my MP game. Guess you've tried it and hate it?

overwatch looks too cartoony that i refuse to tried it. it looks looks like animu implentation of FPS genre.

it won GOTY over Doom in 2016 is what make me feel sick.

eitherway SP FPS is not only about fighting bots. its about exploration, completing objectives and do progression. MP games is about in same map doing same thing over and over and over and over again.

community today are awful. they will kick you if you have high ping, or if you are not doing what they want to do.

There aren't really that many singleplayer FPS anymore. There are what... maybe 1-2 singleplayer FPS at most every year?

All the rest are open world games and they are very boring. Far Cry V is probably the most boring of the franchise, eventhough it has solid mission design, playing yet another open world Ubisoft games is boring me.

Meanwhile there are a ton of interesting multiplayer games over the past years, with moments that can feel even BETTER than the best scripted singleplayer experiences. Where teamplay rules supreme. Shame you deprive yourself of so many great games:

  • Day of Infamy
  • Insurgency Sandstorm
  • Rising Storm 2: Vietnam
  • Battlefield 1
  • Battlefield V
  • Hell Let Loose

Playing with friends is immensely enjoyable, especially if the game is the type you like. For example recently I have been playing Dark Souls 3, its not really an amazing game in my opinion but really immensely enjoyable with friends.

We all together finishing my character's story and now currently is playing pvp. Hard to find match sometimes on ps4 though

true. theres more MP FPS every year but most of them are same.

wish more and more SP FPS to be made than MP. 2018 was terrible year.

but this year we will have Metro, Doom and RAGE 2, Dying light 2, The Outer worlds that will made up.

its kinda sad theres more MP FPS than SP FPS today. when in reality SP FPS crush MP in every single way.

It's the social aspect of it. Some people like having a good time with friends, some people like showing off their game skills to others in real time. It can even make a mediocre game a little more enjoyable. I may personally prefer singleplayer in the end, but multi has its value.

I used to be convinced of your last statement:

"...when in reality SP FPS crush MP in every single way."

But I'm not anymore. I often jump into a singleplayer FPS and get bored. Just jumping straight back into a multiplayer match where I get:

- Epic moments

- Teamplay

- Realistic feeling battles

- Push and defend type gamemodes

__________

The only singleplayer FPS I'm really enjoying at the moment is Metro 2033 redux, I'm really looking forward to Exodus.

I might also get RAGE 2 this year but I dunno, it's open world so it might be super boring.

I'm most looking forward to Hell Let Loose: realistic battles, realistic locations, realistic armies... I love those!

1. Uh, no it doesn't. It is colorful though. I'd say it's more Pixar movie looking than anime.

2. ...who gives any sort of shit? Don't act like gaming websites have any sort of credibility anymore.

3. Yeah, I love SP games for what they bring. Just trying to explain the obvious things about why people like MP games. You never play any MP games? You don't find it fun to kill your friends in various ways? You play any fighting games? You say "doing the same thing over and over again", but each match you play is different. And you get a little better all the time, learning new tricks and the level design and shit. In Overwatch you have a lot of characters to try out that are very different from eachother.

4. Agreed. No matter what you play, there will always be assholes. In some games more than others. I don't play CS myself, but I've heard it has some of the worst communities. Overwatch got their fair shair of assholes and crybabies too, but it's usually ok. You don't get kicked unless you're afk.

Playing with other people makes the game better. It's more unpredictable, there's more going on, and it's funner.

A good example is Left 4 Dead. The game is boring single-player. But when other people are playing with you online, the game comes alive.

I like single-player games. But it's true that, a game full of online players is a funner experience.

I think maybe the fact that bots and npc's are only marginally smarter than they were a decade ago plays a big factor.

Take a game like Rainbow Six Siege. There are games where the attacking team rushes in all together at once and pushes the objective. Other times they will flank around and attempt to play it stealthy. Other times its a team chock full of shield operators tea bagging in front of every camera. That's just on the attacking team. It's just as varied on defense.

You can't find AI that is that varied, and complex. Of course with human players, you also get incredibly stupid and hilarious things that happen, that scripted events couldn't reproduce. Compare all this to SP games where the enemies always spawn in the same places, and do basically the same things and it's not hard to see why so many people prefer MP games these days.

Honestly after playing MP games for so long now, most SP games bore me to death within minutes, and I used to be a huge SP guy. Much like cars, the learning curve may be deep, the ride a bit stiff, but it's hard to go back to driving an Accord after learning to properly drive a Ferrari.

this year however is different.

we have 2 masterpieces giants Doom Eternal and Metro Exodus

a fun open world FPS by avalanche. with slice of id software shooting

FPS/RPG hybrid that is outer worlds which looks freshing

FPS/Meele action game with RPG elements and immersive sim elements that is Dying light 2.

and only if Titanfall 3 release this year than...

i dont think any MP FPS can stand this year. for MP side we will see modern warfare 4 which will be same as black ops 4. battle royal game with no SP, we will have EA release star wars battlefront 3 which will flop even more harder than SWBF2 and BF5.

I'm not highly into MP games besides cod zombies. A lot of people don't work together which is annoying. But it is fun to hear people rage.

To a fellow Max Payne 3 fan, I can say the multiplayer has a lot more going on. Too bad it's so poorly balanced. But still, the human opponents offer much more than dumb AI.

There's your answer, OP. Enemy AI is pathetic.

Don't know why you think it's not addicting. Enemies have far more variety in their behavior compare to single player games because all are controlled by other players. And in some ways it's a bit more fair than games where the AI is cheap.

I personally stopped playing them because of how much addicting they are and how they make me angry even though they give me some pleasure.

I will get RAGE 2 if the gunplay is fun and if the PC version is well optimized. I won't get RAGE 2 if it's another crappy Avalanche game.

What do you mean with generic MP game?

All the MP games I listed are totally different. There really isn't another game like Hell Let Loose, Insurgency Sandstorm, Day of Infamy or even Battlefield V.

Multiplayer games are about being social with like minded gamers. It’s not about a b-movie story, it’s not about scripted AI, and a pause button is useless. Gameplay is its selling point and communication is key. Most multiplayer haters get easily frustrated because they don’t top the charts early and claim it’s the fault of the game. There is no easy level one beginner level. You may have to learn something and face unpredictable opponents. Something you don’t need to do in most single player games which for the most part - hold your hand the entire time.

The social aspect of it, play I,g with a group of friends is a blast.

The challenge, you can figure out AI and exploit it, random people around the world not so much.

Its basically the new arcades, they brought gamers together and now its online gaming doing so.

Here's a tip for you Ghost, expand your limited view of the world, you'll thank me,later for it. Also practice, you got your ass handed to you for 5 hours, get better and online MP will be a lot more fun.

So let's summarize across your threads.

You only like FPS

But you hate FPS like Wolfenstein because they are too cinematic

And you hate multiplayer FPS

Which leaves us with...

DOOM

Ghosts likes DOOM.

I think we all learned something today

For my kids it's the same thing as my generation talking on the phone all night. It's their social networking.... To many its also Competetive.

For me it has the lasting appeal of a wet fart at church in most cases. Ocassionally I find a game that I really enjoy to game online with and it usually centers around coop.

For developers it's being able to make money while avoiding the task of actual game development.

For players, I guess it's peer pressure from their friends at school who are all getting the newest FPS or whatever, so why aren't you ? More of a thing to fit in and make them feel like they're having some kind of a 'social experience' or something.

I find it very fun and enjoyable myself. It’s social and very dynamic fighting with and against human opponents. Also multiplayer is much more the just PvP deathmatches in FPS games. There’s a whole variety of genres and game types to enjoy in multiplayer these days.

LAN MP with friends and/or relatives? Lots of camaraderie between well-behaved players. Online? None. Too many dickheads.

The early online back in the 90's weren't too bad because there weren't too many screaming kiddies with PCs and there were practically no online console gamers to speak of.

TC has never said he was playing with a headset with a mic. That really is a big part of the fun.

A. You can meet some really cool people from all over the world, or just stick with your friends.

B. You can better coordinate how tackle objectives

C. I have never laughed so hard playing games while talking to some of the people I have met, Especially in Sea of Thieves.

We all have friends that make everything better. Sometimes those friends are far away or moved away over time. Spending time with those ones is the biggest draw for online play to me.

You're not required to play any of them.

Plus, humans thrive on social communication and competition, thus, multiplayer is a staple in today's gaming. You can't change that fact.

Some people prefer SP games, I'm included in that. But I get the appeal of multiplayer games, no matter how shallow you think they are. It's just a fact that humans love to socialize, be it in a game or not. Be it a competition or not.

SP is boring and predictable.

Even the absolute dumbest of dumb MP opponents are often more clever than crap SP ai.

How is this even a question.

That's not a persona, he was like this on Gametrailers about 13 years back.

good old gametrailers. we will never forget that...

Good times my beloved. See the Patcher video is still floating around after all these years

apparently michael patcher is still that stupid. i cant believe GT hire him as analyst.

also the meltdown when GT gave modern warfare 2 the best PC game. i remember. the whole PC forums of GT was collapse.

He's still doing it. Asking for donations as well. A guy who lives in a mansion, owns a boat and two sport cars.

Donno what ever happened to Shane Satterfield, I think he's still alive. Use to work here as well pre-Gametrailers.

@ghosts4ever: Its fun to many because no AI matches the challenge of a living opponent. Have you never played any organized sports in your life? Nothing was more fun then playing HS football against other schools students or hockey in leagues in NYC. It was a rush to push yourself to remain disciplined and in the zone while another was attempting to do the same against you and your team.

If you've never competed at anything other than table tennis or kickball I'm not sure you'll ever understand.

P.S. Doom Eternal and Metro Exodus haven't released yet so they aren't "masterpieces giants". You talked all this shit before Deus Ex MD and then were let down. Calm down and let the games speak for themselves maybe.

For real. I wanted to like FC5 but it just got so fvckin boring. And I recognized that it did what I wanted it to do by changing from FC3,4 formula. I couldn't finish 4 because it was 3 reskinned imo. But for some reason 5 just put me to sleep. I just went back to Halo 5 warzone LOL

To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women.

Yes, especially on the occasion when that real person playing against you acts dumber than AI. So satisfying! :D

AI doesn't rage quit, cheat or call your mom a whore.

@mandzilla: Dammit! Why didn’t I think of that Conan quote? It’s the perfect answer for this thread.

@Archangel3371: Probably because you're more productive with your time and don't spend it all watching films like me! :D
