Super Mario Bros. or Final Fantasy. Halo would be a close 2nd. I really don't know in other words...

Microsoft= halo easily

Those franchises aren't as big as they were before (heck GTA is much mor epopular than Zelda and Sonic period). GTA has probably had more impact on the game industry than even Mario, and Halo is just mega popular.

Pokemon. It's the second best selling game series ever, right after mario and Pokemon is like what, twenty years younger? It's not far behind Mario. I'd say it's safe to assume sooner or later Pokemon is going to completly surpass Mario. Not that I think Pokemon is that good. Gold/Silver was the last Pokemon game that had a soul. That's true, even though now is included it still doesn't beat out the one's I listed.

GTA has never had a TV show, remember. While Zelda had one and Sonic has had several.
