With Sony expanding beyond the console with streaming with Samsung TVs and PS Now with PlayStation Streaming which involves paying for a subscription but you also gain with majority of the games that existed on the PlayStation series . Microsoft is also using Universal Apps and Games to try to monopolize every industry they touch with Windows 10, also making the XB1 a PC with support for M&K and BC and more.

Where do you think the Consoles are going to be by the time the next Gen consoles are revealed by maybe 2017-2018?

I dont think we are a million miles away from a living breathing online virtual reality world.

I dont think it would be particularly action packed initially but I can definitely envisage a second life style game with VR incorporated. We already saw microsoft showing glimpses of hololense and the minecraft universe so its certainly not a huge leap of the imagination to imagine wearing a similar headset and interacting with a player made universe. From there the content could evolve exponentially hand in hand with technological advancement and imagination.

Consoles are on the way out. One more generation tops before we see a complete move away from local hardware. PC's will continue to exist in the enthusiast space as there are many more uses for the hardware than just gaming. AR + VR is the future and consoles just don't and won't pack the punch required for the best of this tech.

You should read my thread about wireless internet and the end of consoles. The future does not lie in constantly replacing cables all over the world with better versions at extreme and unrecoverable costs. The future lies in 5G and the technologies beyond that. This will make cloud streaming available to all.
