Yeah I have been following the evolution of these next-gen consoles from the beginning and now I am deciding for myself what next-gen console to buy. I have read too many different fourms compairing the new consoles and I am confused and tired and bored. Take the Wii out of this because the dirt cheap price and unique gaming ability makes it a "eventually buy" console. What Im talking about is between the PS3 and the Xbox 360, dont start going on with this techy buisness I know the specs I dont need technical comparisons and actually I cant bother to compare. All I am looking for is a significant difference between the consoles. When i say siginificant I mean the biggest difference you can give me from the two. This is what I know so far. The games: most of them are gonna be released on both I know Xbox 360 games there seems to be alot more than the PS3 simply because it got released earlyer but I dont care really about the range I dont need tons of games I only need a few good ones. The internet: sure ps2 is free but xbox live seems to kick ass when I'm playing it. The price: ok Xbox is cheaper, the game price well the PS3 games are a bit expensive only because it just got released. The controllers: 7 controllers on the ps3? wtf mate? wouldnt that make some games a bit too cluttered? 4 is fine for everyone I think, the wireless bluetooth?... to me wireless is wireless and trust me I've played both at friends houses and they feel the same. The graphics: they both look the same to me.
Please if you can help sparing the extra mumbo jumbo I would appreiciate it.
The PS3,. in my opinion, isn't going to be coming out with any NEED TO OWN games in the near future. I do however really want some 360 games and no Halo 3 isn't one of them.
Perhaps you should just make an informed decision after looking through the games coming out for both systems and decide which you would like better.

Yeah Blu-ray and $200 is the big differnce right now. While it sucks because i would be able to afford a PS3 and i would get a PS3 if they made it $400 and took out blu-ray. As if it was never intended to be in the PS3

I am in the same boat as you. I am looking to purchase a new console as the latest one I have is an original XBox. (I've primarily been using my PC and PSP for games.) I've done a lot of research and reading. Here is what I have come up with:
It all comes down to money. What will get me the most bang for my buck right now, as opposed to in a year.
I do not own a HDTV, and I will be unable to afford one for at least another two years. Hence the PS3 is not a good buy for me because to get the most out of the system I would have to purchase a $2,000+ TV. In addition *right now* the PS3 has a very limited selection of games, and limited online play. It's also only been out since November, so let's keep some perspective. Games will be released, and online will be flushed out. It just takes time. Unfortunately I am not willing to spend $600 on a system plus $2,000 on a TV to wait.
Now we come to the XBox 360. Now I know a lot of you are thinking... "You will need a $2000 HDTV to get everything out of a XBox 360 too!" This is not true. Microsoft sells these VGA/HD cables that are capable of plugging in to a PC monitor. I can go and purchase a widescreen LCD capable of 1080i resolution for $287 including tax and shipping. I can then purchase the VGA cables for $29.99 and get HD resolutions for a fraction of the price. Now people are saying you need a ton of accessories for the 360! You don't *need* any thing. The system will still work and work well with or without the newest finglehopper or doritomuncher. In addition the 360 has a lot of good games currently available and a lot of good ones coming out this year too. Not to mention the maturity of their online service. Now don't tell me that the price of the online service is a negative. It costs very little and you have access to play many games online. MMORPG's cost more and you only have access to one game.
Personally here is my breakdown and prices of the two systems for me:
PS3 ------
60GB System - $600.00 HDTV - $2,000.00 Total: $2,600.00 not counting the installation or delivery of the HDTV.
XBox 360 -------------
XBox 360 Pro - $399.99 XBox Live 1 Month Gold Card - $7.99 XBox 360 VGA HD/AV Cable - $39.99 XBox 360 Play and Charge Kit - $19.99 Total: $467.96
Sceptre X20G Naga III 20.1" LCD Widescreen Monitor - $287.63
Grand Total: $755.59
In my eyes not only does the 360 win on price, but it also wins on games and the maturity of the online service. Who knows where the PS3 will be in a year but I want something now. Not something in a year. You invest in the potential future of stocks, not of game systems.

I waited around a year to buy my 360 and was better off for doing it, I am going to wait at least that long to see how things shake out with the PS3. For me it mostly boils down to what I can walk into the store and get the most for my money with and right now hands down it is the 360. If you have a place to buy used games at near you you won't have trouble tracking down used copies of Gears, PGR, Oblivion, Rainbow 6, Kameo(get it btw its $20 and it rocks) COD 2 & 3, dead rising, Need for Speed, splinter cell, Tony hawk, Tiger woods, Saints Row, Fear, Test Drive, Plus all the sports titles. The PS3 is at some point in the future going to be an incredible gaming system, but you are going to be spending a lot of time waiting for games to come out for it. I just think that that time is better spent playing 360 games until the heavy hitters show up for the PS3.

Of course you may also need a new power supply as well. These new graphics cards are power hogs. And you may also need to buy a new computer case if yoru current computer case won't fit the dimensions of the newer graphics card. They require ATX cases while quite a few of the computer being sold now have Mini ATX or Micro ATX cases, as is the case of mine. And you may also need to buy a whole new motherboard because the newest graphics cards take up 2 PCI slots.
