For me, atmosphere/setting. If I am bored with a game's atmosphere/setting, I'm not likely to play it. If a game has an awesome atmosphere, that can make up for some shortcomings in the gameplay department (although the gameplay does has to be decent).

As a last note, I'd like to say that the most important aspect of a game is absolutely NOT story. I was shocked when I saw people on this board claiming it is. If they really believe that to be true, the overwhelming majority of games must fall flat.

Mind-blowing graphics, in-your-face sound effects, storylines that leave your jaw on the ground (or bursting in tears), and the ability to bring screaming death at the press of a button...:D

Gameplay > Difficulty > Depth > Length > Controls > Storyline/Setting/Characters > Sound > Graphics

55% gameplay, 40% story, and 5% presentation (graphics/sound).

If it's an arcade game then 60% gameplay and 40% presentation (graphics/sound).

Either the concept... or the successful execution of the concept.

For me it gameplay. It doesn't matter how great the graphic are if you get bored playing the game then the great graphics dont mean much. For me that happened with Killzone 2. I rented this game out three different times to give it a fair chance but couldn't play for very long before getting bored.

Gameplay by far...as mentioned above ^^^^^ graphics only go so far if the game is boring.

Graphics, if the game looks too dated it becomes unplayable for me (a recent game of course). I've been one to put up with mediocre gameplay but I can't stand mediocre visuals.

I really hate these threads. Graphics can alter gameplay,. Everything is the most important aspect of a game because if one of them is terrible everything can fall apart. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link same goes for videogames.

I don't see how all of these options aren't intertwined. If any one of those categories fall flat, the game will not be as good. If a game has terrible graphics, that can have an impact on the gameplay in a negative way. As a gamer I've learned to accept that the package is usually only as good as the sum of its parts, and because of that I've grown to have a much deeper appreciation for people who can put together good games, because they have to ensure that none of the game's aspects drops below a certain point in terms of quality. It's a very commendable trapeze act trying to balance all these elements while keeping each one good. Also, this might be off topic, but I think the poll on this thread fails. Gameplay, okay; graphics, great; why aren't online and multiplayer bunched together? Also, why graphics but no sound? You could have at least combined graphics and sound and called the option presentation. Difficulty, length, and story could be other possible options.

Gmaeplay is what holds a game together. If gameplay sucks then the game will suck.

This is stupid. Every part of a game is equally important. It's like asking which part of the eye is more important, the retina or the choroid. There IS NO EYE without either.

Theme has to be appealing, gameplay has to have depth and challenge, graphics should be vibrant rather than all that grey realistic stuff, lots of replay value, and a great soundtrack.
