What one game do you think is the best of this gen.

Oblivion. For scale and ambition nothing comes close, not Mass Effect or Crysis. Hate on the gameplay all you want, but what Bethesda were trying to accomplish with this game is more than most developers accomplish in a whole games series.HoobinatorYou mean...sell the game as an action adventure with minor rpg elements.
I don't think I can choose just one...so I'll go with:
Super Mario Galaxy, Call of Duty 4, and Oblivion.
In no particular order.
personally there have been none, but hopefully mgs4 and starcraft II will remedy thatFire_Hurts
so all games have been equally bad?

Uncharted or Call of Duty 4.
Mass Effect, Bioshock and Crysis were all good but Mass Effect had monotonous side-quests, Bioshock had no replay value and Crysis....I couldn't even run at it's highest graphical setting's.
Too many epic games
Mario Galaxy
Call of Duty 4
Ratchet & Clank
Legend of Zelda TP
Rainbow Six Vegas
Halo3
Uncharted
Bioshock
ROCK BAND/ GH3

I honestly dont care about what they were trying to accomplish. Because what they did accomplish was a bad world leveling system, terrible AI and extremely bad coding.
Anyway, SMG is the best game so far according to me (and probably most people out there) so far this gen. I have yet to play a game this gen that plays better, is more polished, more complete and has less flaws than SMG. I honestly think there are very few games that come closer to perfection than SMG.
If I had to pick one, I would go with...
Wii Sports. I have had more fun with Wii Sports than any other game this gen BY FAR, and to me, gaming is about having fun. Second place goes to Mario Kart DS.
Oblivion. For scale and ambition nothing comes close, not Mass Effect or Crysis. Hate on the gameplay all you want, but what Bethesda were trying to accomplish with this game is more than most developers accomplish in a whole games series.Hoobinator
Oblivion was a dumbed down Morrowind imo. It lacked the main core components that made Morrowind even fun.
Anyway as for my game Id have to say Gears is my most played game this gen so Ill pick that.
[QUOTE="i_like_pizza"]Yeah and to most gamers, gaming is about getting bored right ? :|and to me, gaming is about having fun.

Yeah thats why so many people buy the wii.
lol Im joking of course.

definatly agree with you its the best game i have played this gen (and i have played most of this gens "big" games except for SMG but i will soon =] ) i just flash back to the first time i walked out of that tunnel and saw a big mountain and beautiful water. . . ah memories and then there was the fun of having my own unique character =]
that being said a close second IMO would be COD4 or Portal
I have yet to play SMG, but off my experiences, I'd give that to Oblivion. It looked, played, and felt incredible. It was the biggest "wow" factor that I've gotten playing games in a long long time. Its also high replayable and contains so much content that I really regret trading it in.
Runner up goes to either Orange Box, Halo 3 (although the multiplayer feels like it has untapped potential for playlists), or Gears of War.

If you've played Daggerfall or to a lesser extent Morrowind, I have no idea how you could take Oblivion seriously. It's an RPG lite that resembles an action adventure game more than a true RPG.
The best game this gen so far has to be The Witcher or Stalker. Mass Effect and SMG are close behind them. Once Natural Selection 2 releases, I'm sure that will become my favourite game this gen.
I'm surprised at the comments about COD4. The multiplayer is ok thanks to innovations but it is unbalanced as hell and the single player is exactly the same as everey other call of duty game. Guess it just goes to show how mediocre the general populations tastes are
For me Orange Box as a whole cant be beat. I know HL2 is old but it's still the best FPS ever, Portal is the best puzzle game ever. TF2 is the best multiplayer shooter ever (sorry BF2)
In terms of the best NEW game released last year Galaxy wins by far. It's not even close
