What is the VERY Early Front-Runner for GotY 2008?

Ok, let's see what everyone is guessing 2008 GotY will be.

Going into last year, I'd have to say the favorite was Halo 3. Funny thing is, that it won basically no GotY Awards. Those all went to either Call of Duty 4 (an amazing darkhorse) or Super Mario Galaxy.

So......what's 2008 GotY Front-Runner?

IMO.....here is the shortlist of the 5 early nominees (only includes games that are extremely likely to release this year..therefore no RE5 or FFXIII etc...)

• Metal Gear Solid 4
• Gears of War 2
• Super Smash Brothers Brawl
• Resistance 2
• Grand Theft Auto IV

Which one outta these (or others perhaps) is the front-runner for 2008 GotY?

I'm liking Prototype (what i've seen so far) but it'll be overlooked :(

I'd say right now the favorite, and most likely winner is GTA IV. I don't recall the MGS series ever really competiting in the department, though it has the hype of a runaway train. dru26

Number 2, which I thought was the best one, was caught in a bad spot, considering GTAIII came out that year. The hype that game had was Halo-esq.

Well based on what's out, I'll say Sins of a Solar Empire.

For unreleased games I"ll go with Spore if it lives up to even half it's promise. And knowing Will Wright's history it's probably going to.

none of these the choices. most probably spore or starcraft 2.

also picking up games like resistence 2 or geow 2 over a revolutionary looking game like far cry 2 is laughable

Lets see here's my prediction of the top 5 candidates:

1. Little Big Planet- new breed of game that the gaming media adores
2. MGS4- snake's opus and most hyped exclusive game of the year
3. Resistance 2- 60 players, 8 player coop, huge epic battles,becomes the new face of the shooter genre
4. Spore- massive game with loads of possibility
5. Fallout 3- it's Bethesda and Fallout, probably the best rpg of the year unless FFXIII comes out

I know I didn't mention GTA4 or Gears 2. I don't believe either of these games will be a massive improvement over their predecessors just more of the same refined with messing with the formula too much. Remember Goty tends to favor not only the hyped games but also the games that push boundaries and do new things like Spore and Little Big Planet, which will be like Galaxy and Portal of this past year. Remember Halo3 didn't win many goty awards and I would say that Gears 2 and GTA4 fall into the same category.

My dark horse candidate is Killzone2, which if it lives up to the hype could potentially garner lots of media attention given its development cycle.

I don't get why pretty much all the games suggested are ones no one has played.
