Microsoft released their consolefirst but Sony already has made the slim.

What the hell is microsoft doing? Their consoleswere the ones with problems like red rings, e37, and disc scratching.

Microsoft was the company that needed a revised console first not Sony.

It turns out they're buying more games. I've heard playing consoles is pretty fun too though.

microsoft made the arcade and elite, and have constantly made changes like added hdmi ports to pros, increased the in built memory in the arcade to 512mb etc. if you mean a slim i don't really think microsoft need one the cost are already low enough, maybe later in the gen they will do it, but i presume they are making enough and will constantly reduce prices so they won't need to.

Microsoft has been revising their console. They released to revised Falcon model 360's (with a smaller CPU) and they recently released their new Jasper model which has a smaller CPU AND GPU. The problem is I don't think Microsoft will release a slim model due to the HDD placement. If you make the model slimmer, the HDD accessories will not fit it.

MS is not knwon for brining out slier version their game consoles.

Didn't happen with the Xbox, and not really necessry for the Xbox360.

Sony however has the PSone, PS2 Slim, now PS3 slim.

Still.. what so special about the PS3 slim really?

I think that M$ is on cruise control right now, raking in the 2009profits.

What 1st MAJOR party retail games are we getting this year from M$...Forza and Halo 3 Expansion? It's fine, but it certainly is meager (And we had to wat all year to get these two offerings, a racer and expansion).

Judging M$ 360 now compared to the 360's two years past, M$ seem to be on "Cruise Control" this whole year. They aren't nearly as aggressive with putting out games. I'm surprised E3 was so beloved by the fans, if they really watched it, they would have noticed this year has been bunk for 360's 1st party offerings.

Taking M$'s new Philosophy of "Cruise Control" and "Profit Raking" into consideration the situation is easier to understand.

The 360 itself has been revised a bit, as mentioned by other users, but I think this year and next is going to be easy-breezy for the 360. The 360's BEST years may have been it's first years.

This reminds me of the last GENERATION's of XBOX 1, we didn't know we were in the Xbox's Last year, but it "Felt" weak. Who would have thought that after HALO 2 launched, the system was dead?

M$ doesn't seem to be trying, and here I am in AUGUST of 2009 playing Holiday 2008 games on my 360 this year (GeoW2, L4D, etc.). While that's certainly a testament to the quality of last year, it's also a testament to how incredibly weak this year has been for the 360's killer apps.

Didn't they already "revised" their console by adding hdmi and having new chips? Or did you want them to also have a Xbox 360 Slim? I don't think there would be a point if it didn't add anything new or if they took features out. They can just keep lowering the price.

Nah, they do't announce improvements to their console, the just sell it. Sony finds it valuable to announce a new case for their console. Otherwise its the same damn console!

So why would people buy the 360 instead of PS3 now!!!?

PS3: unscratchable ultra-high quality bluray, web browser, rechargable controllers, WiFi, free online gaming with unlimited IDs/accounts, under 10% failure rate, and HDMI. Is priced at $299.

Sony PlayStation 3 (80 Gig)

$299.99
360 will exclude HDMI and cut out the standard 360 and go to Elite only: uses regular dvds and no HD movie player, no web browser, no WiFi, pay $50 per ID/account, no rechargable controllers, and has an over 55% failure rate. Is priced at $399.

Precisely. MS has never stopped "revising" the 360 and they'll continue to do so. The Slim models of the PlayStation consoles has more to do with the tastes of the market in Japan than anything else. Japan loves smaller models of both handhelds and consoles. Most of the rest of the world puts far less stock in the size of their gaming machines. Seeing as MS hasn't been able to get Japan on board the 360 anyhow, I can certainly understand why they wouldn't bother....

Here's the mind boggling part of MS to me. They charge $50 per year per ID for online gaming and advertise on their console to boot and Sony supplies theirs free and no advertisements. Sony sells their games on a far superior disc and doesn't scratch andthat is more expensive to buy and yet they charge the same for their games as MS does for theirs. Sony gives rechargable controllers, WiFi which I use and is great and MS doesn't, Sony puts an HD movie player in their system and MS doesn't, Sony gives a web browser and MS doesn't, Sony allows you to buy any size any brand HDD and MS doesn't, I can make my own PS3 themes for free easily with Paint.net and PS3 theme creator with any images from the internet or off my PC. MS supplies a headset and Sony doesn't and that's it. Also MSs consoles fail RRoD, failed HDD, errors etc at over a 50% rate and Sonys is under 10%. So why wouldn't people choose more for their money and reliability?!! I owned a 360 for 8 months and through a failed HDD and then RRoD, my brother in went through 5 360s and 5 360 controllers, a worker at my local Game Crazy has gone through 7 360s.

People must be choosing the 360 without knowing these facts.

How do you know they will? Even if they do it wont be less than a PS3 and the PS3 is way-way more reliable with free online and way more hardware foryour money.

you do realize that the 360 has the overall higher rated library? and having played on both PSN and XBL, i can tell you that free does not always equal good.

Publishers foot the bill for PSN costs -- there is no such thing as a free lunch. Eventually, those servers will go offline and you won't be able to play some of the unpopular PS3 games. Xbox and Xbox 360 online games will always be possible to play online -- hell, you can still go online with games like Ghost Recon on the original Xbox.

Blu-ray disks can suffer from scratches -- I don't know what led to believe they're unscratchable. Blu-ray is a story medium, Blu-ray does nothing to enhance the games themselves.

Rechargable controller is great -- pathetically short cord is not.

WiFi is slower than using an ethernet cord, WiFi is also not necessary, why should I pay for a feature which I will not use in my household? It should be an "option".

The PS3 is a Blu-ray player, yes, as it always has been. Gaming was perhaps an afterthought for Sony when they pushed forward the PS3. Remember the no-games comment made by Sony PR? Five million would buy this even if it had no games was it? Hmm. Silly Sony and thir rediculous PR. Nevertheless, if I'm going to buy a gaming console -- I'll be looking at which console offers the best games, and which console has the best multimedia features. ;)

Web browser? Really now? You're using that as a reason why to get a PS3? Seriously?

PS3 Slim isn't HDD upgradeable. You can throw in a 3.5" HDD into a PS3? Hmm. No, so unless you want to use that 3.5" HDD externally and provide the necessary power to it as well.

Microsoft also supplies a component cable or a HDMI cable. Sony doesn't. It also comes with a network cable, and the PS3 doesn't.

That percentage is bullocks.

Why do people choose the Xbox 360? Plenty of reasons why -- perhaps it's because the Xbox 360 has the largest selection of titles. Perhaps it's because the Xbox 360 has the most well received library of games -- the most variety, and the most critically acclaimed library of titles. For what it's worth, the Xbox 360 is a fantastic little gaming machine.

Why would people choose the 360 over PS3? Simple. People see it as the better gaming console.

Also, XBL>>>>PSN.

360 Multiplats>>>>>PS3 multiplats.

Wi-Fi? You can just get a much easier, & better connection by going wired by just using an ethernet cable.

Blu-Ray? They are much cheaper Blu-Ray players out there now, & not to mention that some of them are even better than PS3's Blu-Ray player now. There are even Blu-Ray players in newly built Desktops & Laptops.

Plus I doubt that they will cut HDMI. Microsoft's not stupid to do that. Plus Gamestop? LOL. I wouldn't believe them over MS.

um you do know that sony has revised their console MULITPLE times since launch right? as the 360 has and the Wii right? One doesn't revise a console and BOOM it gets smaller, as for that most of the time sony never has to make the thing smaller they make it smaller so as to sell more units and thats it.

I owned a 360 for 8 months and through a failed HDD and then RRoD, my brother in went through 5 360s and 5 360 controllers, a worker at my local Game Crazy has gone through 7 360s.

People must be choosing the 360 without knowing these facts.

Stevo_the_gamer

For what it's worth, the Xbox 360 is a fantastic little gaming machine.

yes it is:)

This man speaks the truth. Also, it never WAS a 3.5" HDD. It's a 2.5" SATA HDD, like in a laptop. Of course, one WITHOUT a PS3 (or knowledge of how to properly spell "bollocks") would not be privy to this information.

Microsoft released their consolefirst but Sony already has made the slim.

What the hell is microsoft doing? Their consoleswere the ones with problems like red rings, e37, and disc scratching.

Microsoft was the company that needed a revised console first not Sony.

why every console needs a slim ?? you might wanna ask nintendo to make slim too. xbox 360 has a good price already.

While that's certainly a testament to the quality of last year, it's also a testament to how incredibly weak this year has been for the 360's killer apps.

do u do anything other than bash the 360 mr. unbiased. thats all i see you do on these boards. you even spell microsoft with an M$ now...smh. its real funny watching u flip out on someone saying how unbiased u are because u have both systems and etc...but c.mon. ur a cow, admit it.

on topic, yes it has been a very slow year for the 360, very slow. but there are a few games i'm looking forward to getting this year(Shadow Complex & Batman AA i'm looking at you). and MS press conference is tomorrow so i'll be paying attention to that. hopefully there will be some nice surprises there. until then i guess i'll have to watch cows tatter off about how the 360 is doomed and has nothing...then get shut up once again with sales and games in the months ahead. we're caught in a pattern here people.

You took the time to bash me, then you agreed with me. Okay.

Also, I haven't been on these boards in almost two months, so way to go. I just got back from a vacation.

I guess I can't be critical of this blessed year (2009) we are in, because heaven forbid, I may be some sort of animal.

Your opinion is all your own, so enjoy it, but considering you don't have the other consoles to compare too, it seems you just have no choice but to drink one flavor of koolaid. I get sips of all three flavors, and while I can certainly be critical of Sony or Nintendo, this thread is asking,

"What's up with M$".

Well, I answered based on observations and facts for this year.

You aren't aware of how bleak this year or last year is and has been for exclusive 1st party retail games, so I guess the lack of Quality 1st Party Retail games isn't an issue for you....but I argue, IT SHOULD BE.

You seem to be happy and content with M$'s management in this regard, I for one, am not in the slightest bit happy, that doesn't mean anything other than what it is. Please try to read and understand.

These are all just business', and right now, I want to see more from M$. The Squeeky wheel HOPEFULLY will get the grease, if not this year, then next.

As far as M$, that's not anything other than shorthand for Microsoft, and M$ is a Title that is earned.M$ = compliment, so M$ needs to use those VAST resources and DELIVER MORE KILLER APPS. Got it?

I find it humorous that you can't actually argue with my Facts, and instead try thrusting your opinion about me out there, as if that now has some sort of merit. You only have 600ish posts, and only seem to play 360, so instead of worrying about me, try looking at what Multiplatform gamers are actually capable of seeing RIGHT THIS VERY SECOND.

So why would people buy the 360 instead of PS3 now!!!?

PS3: unscratchable ultra-high quality bluray, web browser, rechargable controllers, WiFi, free online gaming with unlimited IDs/accounts, under 10% failure rate, and HDMI. Is priced at $299.

patriots7672

you can get a 360 arcade for $199. some people just want something to play games on.

In September they are going to Elites only and cutting out HDMI. The manager of Game Stop told me himself and I've read it on the internet.

Yes, I'm sure MS is just going to drop the lowest priced current gen SKU despite it's profitability along with HDMI (the global standard in HD connections). But hey, everyone knows MS is run by Game Stop managers so it has to be true.

Oh right I had forgotten the manager of gamestop was also the CEO of MS, how silly of me *sarcasm ends* Seriously there's people who just want a GAMING console for what it's meant to do, play games. Also to your other part about $50 per account, that's only if you play online. My friend has a gold and silver account that he uses when he wants

False and false. You really need to brush up on your rumors.

Rumor 1 is them deleting the Pro and dropping the price of the Elite. Leaving them the Arcade at $199 and the Elite at $299.

Rumor 2 is not deleting HDMI. It is deleting the $5 HDMI cable from the revised Elite SKU. Which would put it on par with the PS3 in that regard.

I'm aware that it's upgradable now, only a bit of confusion a few hours ago when many say it wasn't and now they're saying it is. So my mistake there, indeed. Also, I'm well aware of the fact that the PS3 uses 2.5" HDDs, but the user whom I quoted said the following: "Sony allows you to buy any size any brand HDD". So that was a response to that.

Well, I'm talking Major 1st party killer App retail games, or even just AA-AAA Exclusive retail games (non 1st party) like I mentioned in my post.

If we don't take notice now, we acknowledge that the lack of major killer app exlusives is fine. I think we should hope for more, at the very least.

I am talking about them Trying, not 3rd parties trying.

As far as the multiplats, I would argue that this has been a weak year compared to years prior for those multiplats as well....but that's besides the point.

I have played many multiplats this year, but I still go back to the HIGH QUALITY Killer App Major games of yesteryear when I really want to throw down....and I am not alone. Too many of us do that.
