I'm sure others out there. I think this is a new video game cliche that needs to stop...

truthfully i never even noticed that before, but those are three very different games, an rts, a "2 shots dead" fps and a "10 shots dead" fps, all of those games have very different elements to them that define them as unique games
I don't think this has anything to do with how different the games are. Its simply the skull on the helmettruthfully i never even noticed that before, but those are three very different games, an rts, a "2 shots dead" fps and a "10 shots dead" fps, all of those games have very different elements to them that define them as unique games

Starcraft 2It makes the games hardcore for the console crowd.

Maybe it serves the same purpose as the Jolly Roger which is sow fear on the other side. Other than that, maybe it's to show no fear of death.
skulls are badass, everyone knows this... thus its the easiest way to signal your badassery to others.
You forgot the real one...
Was this the original?? Don't think so, but I can't remember any other before this.
three times is to many for that sort of style.Jesus, people need a new way to describe common things in games. Cliche is the new "amazing". Skulls on helmets, they've been in three recent games, so all the sudden they're overused. Right.

Was that even required? Doesn't make sense.
How do they see out of their helmet with that paint on it?Skulls would be synonymous with death, thus the bad guys are going to die (cuz let's be honest, most of the time the main character won't). Also, it just looks ****ing awesome :P

I guess it would be like the busses with the image wraparound over the windows. Or I could just be talking out of my ****.
They're more like a beacon for a massive teabag session.:DSimply there to inspire fear and look badass.

lol i was just about to say that. I SAY that we put no decorations on our characters , so no one can complain about anything, or instead of skulls we put flowers on the helmets.Jesus, people need a new way to describe common things in games. Cliche is the new "amazing". Skulls on helmets, they've been in three recent games, so all the sudden they're overused. Right.

Is it just me or does the supposed skull on the Spartan look more like a drawing of Frank the Rabbit, than it does a skull?
Uncharted 2 has a 'skull on the helmet' guy to play with in MP. They even went a step further and allow you to play with entire skeletons : Genghis Khan and Marco Polo to name a few. But at least we get to play with (in)famous historical humans! That actually makes it awesome.
I hope Killzone doesn't do anything similar lol.
How did it lose it's "coolness" because a Halo character has it, especially when that same character kicks alot of ass? :?as soon as it reaches halo. the skull coolness is dead
its like if some new "word" comes out and then after your parents say it, from that point its dead

[QUOTE="bbkkristian"]They're out of ideas... Use that outstanding creativity and create a real logo, game devs!Rhino53
Yeah! They should have a space marine with a tattoo of a daisy on his arm!
Lol  Or perhaps a pink teddybear holding an AK?In urban warfare camo on your face isn't going to do much so private soldiers who don't have to follow a dress code will use facepaint to intimidate the enemy.
Army of Two picked up on this and took it to an extreme. Now every other shooter seems to be doing it.
