What is your favorite Final Fantasy game of all time?

I'm actually a fan of Final Fantasy 8, with 7 being a close second. It seems like a lot of people didn't like 8 lol. I liked the combat and the characters and the setting. To me, it took 7 and built a solid sequel to it that wasn't too much of the same. I played 9, and it seemed very traditional, which wasn't my thing at the time. It's been almost 20 years since I played so my opinion may change now haha. 10 was good, but nothing special for me. 12 was boring. 15 was a nice comeback, but they butchered the story (it's a Final Fantasy game, how could you mess that up?). As for the previous ones, I haven't played them :( I really should at least try 6 and 4 from what I've read.

What about you, SW? Also, since we're on the topic of Final Fantasy, are you hyped at all for Dissidia coming out this Tuesday? I played the beta and wasn't impressed.

XV. I slightly prefer action rpgs to traditional. But as for regular ff games, its IX or X.

@Litchie: i wasnt a fan. an interesting idea but not well executed imho. same with the crystal bearers.

but i love the soundtrack to it. one the best FF soundtrack.

anywho for me its 7. great combat. the materia system was cool. great story that was well told. cool mini games in it. interesting world...just a great game. properly epic.

i just dont know how they are going to pull it off in the remake. the industry doesnt make games on that scale anymore.

i didnt like 8. it had a cool battle theme and gunblades look cool but after that i struggle to think of many positives. i didnt like the draw magic system (it basically just promoted hoarding magic to improve stats...if i remember that system correctly) and the story was pretty meh imho.

i have 9 sitting there and i have gotten some way into it (though not even finished disc 1) but it doesnt really do it for me either. its hard to put my finger on it but everything just seems a bit random and im not sure why im doing what im doing. maybe im a bit too stop/start with it and i just forget :S.

10: meh, 12: less meh but still meh. the earlier ones seem a bit grindy and i would take chrono trigger over them to be honest.

I have never completed any of the Final Fantasy games but enjoyed playing 7 the most. I'm still stuck on the first world map on disc one.

FF 6. It might because I'm old and it came out when I was young, but I love everything about that game. I just replayed it on my phone last year's and it holds up really well.

6&7 are a tie. 7 was my first and it holds a special place in my heart. But 6 was just as epic and beautiful. Back when they didn't have horrible voice acting.

It's a toss-up between VI and IV for me. I miss the midieval/high fantasy FF games, but VI was a grand opus to the series as well. FFXIV gets a huge honorable mention, too.

7, haven't played 8 and 9.

Dissidia was the best but I liked FFVII and FFXV. Those are my favorite but I've also played FF VIII, IX, X, XII, XIII and what Explorers. I liked them all.

7 > 6 > tactics.

I really do hate how overrated 6 and 9 are. 6 is a really annoying game without a guide. Having multiple branching storylines is quite frankly annoying.

9 is just straight up overrated because of the terrible fan base it has. I think I hate the fans of that game more than the game itself LOL I legit think they have the worst.

12, 10

Those are my favorite, but I mainly don't like 7-9 due to the siphoning of funds from chrono cross and xenogears for the development of them. I will never forgive squaresoft for ruining xenogears that badly,

Final Fantasy X

For me is XI. The missions has some of the best game play and story.

Probably 6 is the one I enjoyed the most. But the only one I would replay right now is XII. Everything else is already too old or not good enough for my current taste.

Toss up between 6 and 15

Too difficult to choose one. 6, 7, 8, and 10 are all pretty much on equal footing for me.

IX.

FF8 and FF10 will forever be my most favourite Final Fantasy games, played a shitload out of them. Probably replayed both games about 10x times. Everyone butt loves FF7, but I played it during the PS3 generation and couldn't get into it enough to make it my favourite.

As for FF DIssidia NT, I played the demo, looked good but the experience feels different to the PSP version. I hope it isn't fully 3vs3 in Story mode. Unlikely I will pre-order it.

It would be VIII for me, though I know that IX is a better game overall, I still love VIII more. VII is incredible as well and XII is IMO the best JRPG on PS2.

Final Fantasy 4 will always be my favorite final fantasy. Why?

Kain Highwind. He is life's little reminder that you cannot not always get what you want. My favorite Final Fantasy Character of all time. (Rydia also from FF4 is a very close second)

@omegamaster: 8 & 10 are my favorites too. That's really a pretty rare opinion tbh. Which would you consider 3rd if you just had to make a top 3? I'd probably pick FFXII tbh because it really grew on me after playing The Zodiac Age last year.

6 Tactics 7 and 4

I never finished a Final Fantasy game, but out of the four games I've played, the one I liked the most is World of Final Fantasy (the other three are 13, Lightning Returns, and 15)

@valgaav_219: Hmm.. I'd say FF6. The storyline was well written and a masterpiece. FF12 is ranked near the bottom end for me. The storyline was kinda dull for me. Gameplay was great though.

FFXV is the best game, tho.

I can say with certainty that it's not XII (replaying Zodiac Age and oof, time has done a number on this one).

7, 9 and CC were great too.

FF7 is the best one in the series and my second favorite game ever made. The FF series has gone downhill from there. I enjoyed FF8 and somewhat enjoyed FF9 but FF10 was absolute bollox and I could hardly believe they managed to make the non-MMO FF games after FF10 even worse than FF10 was. I played about 2 hours of 12 before giving up on FF all together.

Oh that's easy, 7. Sure others were great too, but nothing ever came close to 7 IMO.

As sacrilegious as it is to hardcore Final Fantasy fans, my favourite is X. It was the first I played and it has one of the best soundtracks of all time, some great worlds and good game play. I'm not the hardcore fan some are, so I respect that this isn't exactly a great choice, but it is what it is. You asked what my favourite is.

Literally never played a second of FF in my life.
