With the recent repurchase of a wii last week, I have all 3 systems again. (2 xbox 360's actually) I started thinking about my gaming history. Here is a wrap up of mine.

Ive been gaming since pre-atari console (I had a Magnovox Oddysey game station that was released in 1976 and although I was three, I still have it and it still works! It was actually bought for my older sisters).

Then I had an Atari 2600 (released in 1977, I think I got it in 1979.

I then remember having an Intellivision for a short period of time before there was a fire mishap with my sisters Barbie Corvette that cost me my intellivision to the same demise as the car.

I had a collecovision but didnt care much for it and continued to plug away with my old faithful atari 2600 and remember skipping school to get Pacman the day it launched..until...

My world changed forever.

Then came the Sega Genesis...

My junior year in high school I remember buying..

And of course I was one of the many duped into buying..

Anyone remember the game Night Trap? ROFL..

Because of water damager my original Genesis had gotten I then purchased a newer version, and its add on version of the Sega CD.

I also remember I paid something like $200 bucks for this "add on".

And then the world according to Sony began..

But I still trusted my good ole friends from Sega and upgraded to..

Hard to believe its been almost 12 years since I purchased a..

Man I love Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64.. still some of the best games ever were on this system.

I remember midnight launch on 9/9/99 and I absolutely loved this machine and still have many games with 4 controllers and 6 vmu's for it. I remember my first time playing the NFL2k game and thinking.. wow.. nothing will ever look as realistic as this. I also bought the Seaman game and spent hours talking to the stupid thing.

Ahh.. good ol Sony returns. I stood in line for a midnight launch and bought 2 systems. Sold one for $600 and it paid for my first one. The beginning of selling systems for a profit for me.

Then came Nintendo fighting back for my playing time. Man how I WANTED to love this machine, but in the end ended up moreso loathing it. The biggest letdown to me as a gamer when it came to consoles.

Another midnight launch, another system paid for by someone else...

Man I loved this machine.. for the first 3 months.. then it collected dust. Idk why, I just couldnt get into M$'s first console try.

Got a second PS2, this time the slim model for my 2 sons. (they were stealing all my playing time on mine!)

*takes a small silent moment for upcoming console deaths*

Ok, got me a 360 on launch, sold it and got lucky and found one 2 days after launch. Bought it and had it a very short time before I had my first RROD. Since this was a new thing, I took it back to Wal Mart and they promised me first dibs when their next shipment came in. I got it, and it RROD'ed in less than a month. Two 360's in less than a month and I was done for when it came to this console.

Ah.. the PS3.. the first system I did not buy at launch in a very long time. But I have loved it all the same.

Then back the 360.. again, and again, and again.. 3 more of them. (Im on my 5th one, and I have one upstairs that makes 6) Downstairs is mine and its an Elite, and upstairs is my kids and its a pro)

and

I have gotten and sold the wii at least 5 times, but recently purchased another one to keep for myself this time.

So what is your gaming history like?

A lot of it is in my blog, but I started with the SNES, Genesis, N64, and GBC. Can't remember the first game I ever beat, but I think it was Pokemon. I got a PS2, bought my own Gamecube, and the rest is in my blog.

:P I'm not complaing, just confused because never saw these threads before and all of a sudden they are popping up a lot. Two have been about "What year and console did you start gaming" but many people just listed everything anyway.

Here is my list

NES > Genesis > SNES > Saturn > N64 > PS1 > PS2 > > Dreamcast > Xbox > Gamecube > Xbox 360 > Wii > PS3

Handhelds go as:

Gameboy > Gameboy pocket > Gameboy Color > Gameboy Advanced SP > Nintendo DS FAT > Nintendo DS Lite > Sold Nintendo DS Lite > Sold Nintendo DS FAT > Another Nintendo DS Lite

  • NES
  • SNES
  • N64
  • GC
  • Wii
  • MS
  • Genesis
  • Saturn - including add-ons
  • Dreamcast
  • PSX
  • PS2
  • PS3
  • Xbox
  • Xbox 360
  • GB
  • GBC
  • GBA
  • GBASP
  • DS
  • DS lite
  • VB - sold
  • PSP
  • PC - few rig iterations, working on doing another soon

Started on the NES, around 3-4, and the rest is sequential as they came out. I'm actually glad I missed pre-NES gaming. I really look back (and having played a lot of it) and see very little quality and/or variation.

I left them out because I didnt buy them. I came REALLY close to getting a turbo gfx16, but the Neo Geo.. well a friend got it and I thought it was a waste of money. I didnt like it from day one.

Wow.. seriously.. I remember the early Sega days when Sonic ruled.

At jdc.. I played a turbo gfx 16 at a buddies house regularly, so I didnt really miss out.. I still can't recall the reason I didnt actually buy one. I think it had to do with I heard rumor that it wouldnt be out long (turned out to be true at least for here in the US).

First off: no PC? PC during the 90s was in the middle of a golden age of gaming. Would have liked to see the old 'B' drive, spring based keyboards and ball mice there.

What I find interesting, though, is how the console designs have evolved so much. The older consoles pre-N64 were so damned ugly (the first was the worst) and then in comes the Wii (last), easily one of the best looking (aesthetically) designs yet.

i got a Atari from my uncle he had it in his basement stored i was 10-11 and thats how i got hooked up on games. after that snes, game boy, Sega, pc, psone , ps2, gamecube, xbox. but right now iam going to stick with the ps3, pc and the psp. x360 and wii are very disappointing for me x360 with RROD (and reall has no exclusive if u own a PC)and Nintendo doesn't know how to make games any more all they do is just remaking GC games for the wii with some extra content you all know its true.

PC:

Started in 1992 with a DOS 386/33 and Gorillas and Nibbles. Moved onto a Pentium 133 (unsure?) with Doom II in 1994 or 1995. Then some time passed and after a period I cannot remember clearly enough I got a Celeron 533 and started playing games like StarCraft and Age of Empires II in the late 1990's... and from there it pretty much was the 533 up until it was replaced with my current computer in late 2004 and playing games like Call of Duty, Doom 3 and the like. What comes next will be my first dedicated gaming rig this month in preparation for Mass Effect and Clear Sky.

Console/Handheld:

First played the NES and Duck Hunt in 1990. Got a SNES with Super Mario World in 1992. Got a Gameboy with Pokemon Blue in 1995 (?). Then switched over to PlayStation in 1998/1999 (?). PlayStation 2 came in 2002. PlayStation 2 was replaced with a Slim in 2004. Then went onto the Wii in 2006. Got a DS Lite in early 2007. Got a PSP Slim in late 2007. As for what comes next I do not know. Probably will be looking into getting a bunch more GC games for my Wii, possibly a Dreamcast and if I can find one for a reasonable price, a Saturn.

Aside from Dead Rising, MGS4 and the new Team ICO project, no games on the PS3 or 360 interest me at all. My desire for "new" games dwindled after I played the overhyped mess that was BioShock and it nearly killed gaming for me. I was fortunately able to recover but I was never the same after that. I now play what I like and not what the mainstream media likes and tells me what I should like.

I keep going further and further back in time in terms of games and for some reason, the quality only seems to continue going up the further I go back and play all the games I missed as a kid.
