What is your plan if/when SW gets shutdown?

As much as I've made a habit of coming here for 20+ years, forums like this are a thing of the past. So I doubt I'd joined another one. But I definitely would like to keep contact with some of the people I've gotten to know here! Other than that, I would probably just go to X/Twitter and YouTube for gaming news and commentary. How about you, SW? What is your plan if/when SW gets shutdown?

I guess reddit, eventhough that place isn't half as fun as this place.

And going into the Twitter and Youtube comment sections gives me brain aneurysms...

Its not a matter of if at this point. I see Eurogamer and IGN surviving. Most other sites like GS are dead in the next few years.

Is there any chance for legacy forum set up anywhere? Would be nice to have a place to keep chatting.

I like this forum a lot even though it's getting less lively each year. I'd be sad if it closes down, but I guess I'll continue with my daily life.

This is the last forum I post (and the longest I have been visiting: more than 15 years now) and if System Wars gets shut down, I will continue with my life such as reading gaming-related news online.

I post more on rpgcodex, which would filter out most people here. I find the place more interesting, even though I disagree with much of what's said there. They're more real. The movie thread, they TALK to each other, have actual discussions. Movie thread here, mostly just stating the title.

Moderators also don't act like kids still hang around on forums. In addition to very little moderation, a few porn threads in GD.

Also uses BB code instead of this Giantbomb/Gamespot awfulness. Sadly, BB code is no longer on by default. Like IGN, you have to press these brackets ("Toggle BB code") before typing.

Remember when GS changed the forum rules, and there was that mass exodus? Didn't a group of former forumites create that "System Wars" forum site?

Just open a document in Google Docs and call it "System Wars". And then post my daily gaming thoughts in there instead 🥹

@hardwenzen: written publiciations no longer get review codes either (see Wukong). It's all about YouTube and tiktok reviewers and in 20 years something else still.

Honestly it would suck if Gamespot and System Wars was gone. It's the only gaming forum that I go to and nothing else.

My only wish is for Maroxad to upgrade from his 1070 before SW is closed.

I don't see what's so bad about the website linked above. Looks clean and simple.

I already go to other forums, so if SW dies, I would simply spend more of my time on them.

I'm already more active on Reddit these days. Still, I've been here since I got redirected here after CNET Gamecenter got shut down; I'll be here until the bitter end.

Does Discord have forums like this?

I guess that leaves Facebook, X, Reddit, and occasionally browsing Neogaf... this is the main place I've always posted at though.

SW will never get shutdown as there will always be places to dump petty crap arguments about your favorite console on the internet.

I post more on Twitter nowadays just to chill with game developers, talk to older folks who loves posting old school cartoons, movies and the like. If Gamespot were to go out with the Dinosaurs, I'll still play games on my gaming PC and talk about them on Twitter. Only reason why I'm still on Gamespot is because I like SW as nice bad hobby to give me a reason why I still like coming to a gaming site.

I'll be honest, I thought about going back to IGN. I could see myself going back if the site has change for better or worst and I haven't been back to IGN in over 11yrs.

I hate using Discord. It's UI really sucks.

Twitter I can totally understand (if you aren't following the right people with the right comments) but YouTube comments, they aren't bad at all. I guess it depends who the channel you are following, but the comments are always tamed and they do bring in wisdom relating to the subject and often do correct Topic Creator.

I stopped coming here for game news years ago, so I guess I would just browse reddit more.

Honestly it might be good for me. Gamespot is essentially the only place I post online now haha. I'm off Facebook, I don't use Twitter and never will, and I just lurk on Instagram for the hot cosplay babes and food pictures 😋

How does Discord even work? I always thought it was just a VOIP program. I mean, I've used it before for that purpose, but how does it work as like a general community thing?

I've been trying to get back into online gaming but it seems like the community is less about just joining a server, and more about finding a group of people on Discord and then joining in together.

I must be getting old...
