Is it new games? Old habbits? Playing with friends? I think for me gaming continues to be fun and I always look forward to new games and systems coming out. Even though the industry can get repetitive and formulaic, there are still games out there that continue to push the medium forward. It's still my number 1 hobby when it comes to entertainment. How about you, SW? What things keep you coming back to gaming?

I just love games. From retro to indies to triple A titles, doesnt matter as long as its a good game. I love getting lost in the story, characters, lore, gameplay, etc.

Interactive immersive experiences that keep me interested I have a hard time sitting through most movies and TV. Gaming on the other hand keeps me invested it also gives me dopamine hits sometimes.

Just something to pass time and also a nice way to relieving stress that often builds up after coming home from work. I just like something to do to interest the world in the palm of my hands with a controller & KB/M.

Repetitive stuff isn't something that will bother me and quit frankly, anything repetitive actually keeps me coming back for more as of lately.

The last game that really awed me was RE2. That's what keeps me coming back, when I see genres redefined with new tech.

Probably the experiences. I will never forget the time I played FF7, it was really mindblowing back then. I got so invested in the game I even went to delete my save file few time just because I missed out on Vincent or found some bogus way to save Aerith. Glad they makes games like Bloodborne or The Last of Us. I love the experiences these games provided.

Lol, my way of thinking is definitely heading that way too...

But in general, I just love to play games. They are my favourite form of entertainment.

There is no god, we all die and be forgotten about with 6 months. Nature is apathetic.

Gaming cushions the pain.

The immersive and interactive nature of video games. I love losing myself in a game's world and sucking in the atmosphere and story. Plus, they're pretty fun and relaxing to play, or even just watch.

I like visiting these different places and different times in history.

I like being immersed in games and feeling like I'm truly there.

Overall I agree with what @johnd13 said above me: games are fun and relaxing!

Nothing is better than a well written story with a good control system. The satisfaction when beating a tough boss or level is what keeps me coming back.

Just like a cow, always put story first and gameplay last, and you wonder why we give your kind shit over movie games LOL.

It's been my favourite form of entertainment since I was 2-3 years old. I see no reason to stop as long as it's enjoyable.

With that said, gaming has changed. AAA gaming is mostly shit these days, but the indie scene is great. I still enjoy the hobby immensely despite the change.

High scores/ranks/grades, high challenge or high technical/execution requirements, and friends are the biggest reasons I return to gaming. Pushover games don't interest me much, although sometimes they can be enjoyable like when they are presented well or coupled with an interesting story.

Only thing that makes me come back is exploration. Seeing new sights, or revisiting old haunts for kicks.

Games that dont have the exploration aspect thus have zero interest for me.

@dimebag667: Some that I really like.

  • The Binding of Isaac
  • Dead Cells
  • Shovel Knight
  • Hollow Knight
  • Cuphead
  • Rogue Legacy
  • Enter the Gungeon
  • Axiom Verge
  • Inside
  • Rocket League

Then there's about a shitload of other supposedly great indies I haven't gotten around to yet, such as Celeste, Golf Story, Crypt of the Necrodancer, Curse of the Moon, The Messenger, 20XX, Into the Breach, Yoku's Island Express, Owlboy.

Edit: The most amazeballs of them all is Hollow Knight. If you enjoy metroidvanias, it's a must play.

Old games. I seem to be more interested in older games these days.

I play some newer games, but they don't often interest me in coming back for more.

Even Ace Combat 7 is about half as good as Ace Combat 6.

Plus I do love retro games.

Also games have progressively become more and more serious. I want to play a fun arcadey soccer/football game like they used to be, but updated with somewhat smarter ai. But they've become ever more simulation based.

Immersion, Escape, Adventure, Competition, Entertainment, Friend List, The Friend List is the coolest part. Most PlayStation players established their friend list on PS3 and the list carried over to PS4. You can see what everyone else is playing and what is hot in the gaming community. Every generation the games get better visually and sonically.
