What kind of financial situation will Sony be in if the Vita flops badly?

We already know they're losing billions and failing in nearly all of their divisions and have been placed on Deathwatch for 2012.

I predict we may never even see a PS4 :(

There will be a PS4 but Sony sure as hell isn't goin to put themselves in a situation where they will take huge losses with it.

Expect the PS4 to be powerful yet conservative hardware-wise.

It won't be a beast with GTX 590 and 4-6 GBs of RAM like some people are blindly asking for. Especially if it launches in 2013.

It flops then sony will be like, meh? Sony isn't just about video games unlike nintendo.

Are you loosing ends? Or Karatee Chop? I know he has alt account, but even this seems kind of extreame for him. Sony will be fine and I'm sure Vita will do ok, mabey not the best but I think it could take off over time since it has some good ideas. But I'm not going to buy it as I don't thinkit's going to be worth the money and I would like to get a 3DS but I am wating for a new enhanced model with better battery life and two analog sticks.

I am sure we will see a PS4, or at least I really hope so. I am a bigger Nintendo fan, however it would be a sad day to see any of the 3 companies have to end their gaming division.

Sony has done and said several things that I have not liked, however I do enjoy my ps3 and i loved my ps2. I am just against some of their ideas and the way they talk about other companies compared to how MS and Nintendo talk about others. Sony just seems to cocky

ok so yeah, i have made fun of them the entire gen but man i would be upset if they decided to leave the home console market.

my wishful thinking is that sony learns a valuable lesson about the value of delivering on hype as opposed to just generating it and gets bigger and better than ever.

Seeing how Japan is still around and They have gained some ground in europe, i think it's safe to say there will be a ps4eboyishere

Sony will be in a bad spot. Unless the vita brings something new. I don't know how good handhelds can do anymore. Stuff like the iphone and other smartphones are really taking that market share.

The ps4 i don't except to see a huge jump, there will be a decent one but nothing major. Sony can not take the looses they took with the ps3.

Well, the Vita will do poorly in NA I predict, at least for the first six months.

But since Sony doesn't care about all the software, jobs they could create if they ran their products like every other company in the friggin' planet and sold their phones, TVs, Game Consoles for a profit instead of a loss per unit, then I don't think even the Vita selling a pathetic 1-2.5 million units a year in NA just like the PSP has since 2009 will effect their overall business.

Though, I wish they would sell their hardware at a profit, thus putting more money into even more awesome first party games as well as job creation.

Sony needs to step up their game and put forth a very serious and well thought out ad campaign for the Vita. No one I know even knows what it is....

Angry Birds can make $100 million, for a low price, at say 50 million downloads (lets say its $2 per unit download)

Sell a handheld game, Vita or 3DS, for $39.99. Sell about, let's say a moderately successful 3 million copies (what Super Mario 3D Land will sell by the end of this month)

That's $120 million, and with 47 million less customers.

It would seem to me, if you want to make more money and have some money to invest to begin with, a PSV/3DS release is far more profitable as 3 million seller on 3DS (and that's low number considering a lot of Nintendo DS games from Nintendo ended up selliing 5-25 million) makes more money with less than 10% of the customers on a smartphone.

Or make a new model addressing all the problems of the original with a cut price.
