really, im constantly hearing lemms just say in a very 'manner-of-fact' way: "yeah, who cares XBL isnt free, its soooo much better"

and in a way, ive always beleived so too.

but then, playing my PS3, i was like "why is xbl so much better?" i can download things for free, i can play online without lag, i really enjoy myself. So i ask you: What makes XBL so much better?

There are more demos, more arcade games, more of all the other media. There are more users. You can download while you play. There's a few.

DLC. Sony needs more of it, and faster downloading would be better too.

XBL has more overall users so that means you have a bigger chance of playing online with the majority of your games.

But you have to agree that overall, more users is a good thing. You are assured to have gaming partners with virtually any XBL game at any time of day. Even more than that, more user base for XBL leads to more effort put towards the online experience by devs.

XBL doesn't have much extra I quess. It's not like it's some new step in online. Most things that are there for extra I don't care for anyways. To be completely fair I have it mostly for playing RB6 vegas, forza 2 and halo 3 and the like online.

At very very least, we could say that XBL and PSN are dead even featurewise.....BUT XBL is cheaper. Costs 50 bucks sure, brings you up to 550. You get PSN for "free" yet come out at 600 bucks.

Good job, you just mentioned silly three games compared to the huge amount of Xbox Live games for the Xbox 360.

Hexley will come out soon and will have 100 v 100 player battles.  200 people having a battle will just be mad fun.

Xbox live gets alot of demo. - PS3 hardly get any demos.

Xbox live gets more games with online multiplayer included and more downloadable content.  Games made for both systems are not always the same as the PS3 version can be missed online multiplayer.  e.g. Virtua Tennis

Xbox live have a big selection of Arcade game. (approx 40 games.)

Xbox live bring out at least one arcade game a week and about one demo every few weeks.

I can play Halo 2 then if i get a game invite i can just jump straight to another game.  With the PS3 you can't invite people and jump to games in the same simple way.

The xbox live is better looking, much faster to move around and offers alot more features.

The biggest problem with going from Live to PSN is the game intergration with PSN is non-existant. Live has everything available at the touch of a button...message access, game invites, friends lists, player lists......with PSN, to read or send messages you need to quit the game to the XMB.

I copied and pasted that is that still the case?

to my knowledge you have to quit to the XMB(dashboard) to send and recieve messages...is that still the case or did they fix that with an update

Nope, that's still the case. Sony is supposedly working on a way to open the XMB up during games but who knows when it will be possible.

I've never had that happen on a dedicated server. I've seen it on peer to peer servers but not dedicated.

You have to remember that the majority decision rules all. 360 runs this place, so what ever they decided is bad or not that's the rule. PS3 doesn't have games, XBL is better, PS3 is too expensive, and Sony is an arrogant company.

XBL and PSN are basically the same except that XBL has more of everything, which still doesn't make it alot better as psn is a 6 months old feature thats bound to get more stuff soon. so i think PSN is better as its free and so far all the games i played are lag free.

1) It screens like-minded players together on 3 levels (rep, tru-skill, and zone.)  I've played with far fewer jerks than any other online service I've ever tried.

2) Everyone with Live bought a premium, and therefore everyone has a headset.  Sure, the PS3 supports blue-tooth, but since it didn't come bundled in with the 60GB model, almost nobody on PSN talks to their team mates because there's no 1st party headset.

3) You can manage who you talk to and when you talk to them much easier than on PSN.  You can bring up your list of friends NO MATTER WHAT you are doing on your box.  The 360s OS is built with multitasking in mind, and the guide button lets you access all your social features from anywhere.

4) All games support Live and all of the aformentioned features.  I can't tell you how let down I felt when I bought Dark Alliance on the PS3 and although it was online, no voice chat was supported.

5) It has the marketplace, which has about 50 times the content of PSN.  Even when the 360 was 6 months old, you could still download a lot more content.  Also, with the Spring update, downloads now occur 3 times faster than they used to, and they were still faster than PSN before the update.  Marketplace also has movies and TV shows, which is a terrific feature.  The CEO of Netflix signed on to the board of Microsoft last month, which means we'll most likely see the Netflix library available on Marketplace eventually.

That's just off the top of my head.

Well you can message friends when ever you want. And chat with them. I know the PS3 has that, but it was really stupid on Sony's part to not standardize a mic.

I honestly think that all the features that XBL has that PSN don't is hardly ever used. Lemmings just point it out to say "I got what you don't have". All you need is a friend list, voice chat/text messaging, and a online game, which both can do. Everything else is the fat on the pig.

Many of the features operate behind the scenes.  You don't, for example, focus on all the jerks you aren't playing.  This is seamless.  But things like the bundled headset... you certainly notice that.  PSN seems like a ghost town by comparison.  You also notice it when you have to exit your application just to find a friend and talk to them, or when a PS3 game you bought won't support chat.  It sounds like you don't play on Live... like you base your opinions off of these boards more than 1st hand experience.

Weather discussing downloadable content or the community aspects, PSN just doesn't come close to offering the robust experience afforded by Live.  PS3 fanboys talk about how $50 is unfair, but then in the same breath talk about what a great value the PS3 is at $600.  Ridiculous.

Messenger is pretty cool. Ultimately I would say that its how connected you are to everyone of your friends at all times on Xbox Live. Voice chat standard is pretty nice too. All that is free.

The online gaming is only good in Halo 2 IMO. So until they can get all games using a similar interface, I'm not really into the multiplayer, but I still pay for first access to demos, and the ability to play online Halo 2, and now 3, on the rare occasion the mood strikes me.

$3/month, and it helps pay for new features. I'll pay it gladly. At least there are no hidden fees.

I can understand this, but remember the Xbox 360 has sold more units than PS3, which means 360 has more users in their install base. By the time PS3 reaches 10 million units sold, I am sure this issue will be cleared.

So far, Lems are only giving points that are going to fade here soon.  PS3 launched a year later than 360 and still hasn't had the big AAA game, yet.  Once more people buy the PS3, and they will, the numbers will grow on PSN.

Also, Sony has already made changes to the OS and how it dowloads content.  they can change it further, at any time, to make it so you can download while you play games.  They also can change it so that you can switch games to meet a friend and all that stuff as well.  Why couldn;t they?  Is there something the PS3 is missing in hardware in order to do that??

PSN doesn;t have many demos because there aren;t many games to demo.  Besides, I wouldn;t play half of the demos on XBL.  There's some crappy games out on the 360 and a demo of crap is just that, crap.

Arcades?  You're going to boast about arcades.  Are you playing them on a HDTV??  I assume not.  All of the old-school games look like crap on HDTV's.  So, to me and most in the future, arcades are lame.

While there aren't that many XBL users(less than 50 percent of the userbase),around 4-5 million users, but a lot more total users in comparison to the PS3, I like both services. Sony still hasn't rolled out their entire online program, and they need to solidify their solution quickly.

To the person saying that Sony is arrogant, well, if you don't think MS is as well, you need to get your head checked.

The overwhelming advantage to XBL is the Arcade. Doom was a great addition, and every couple of weeks, more and more titles come out. It's great, and I play way more on the Arcade than actual games purchased at the store. Catan was just recently released, which is a hardcore board game over in Germany, and it's my favorite game on the 360, plus it's made by Big Huge Games, the dev's behind some of the greatest PC games, like Rise of Nations and Rise of Legends.

Until Sony comes out with a comparitive arcade library, XBLA will be king on consoles, especially with all the great devs chipping in to release their games over XBLA. On the other hand, it shouldn't cost 50 bucks a year, as we already have to pay for the games, and not to mention, it's P2P and NOT dedicated online play.  Sony's got the right idea as far as free online gaming, which is what I've been used to my entire life.

[QUOTE="Stumpt25"]

really, im constantly hearing lemms just say in a very 'manner-of-fact' way: "yeah, who cares XBL isnt free, its soooo much better"

and in a way, ive always beleived so too.

but then, playing my PS3, i was like "why is xbl so much better?" i can download things for free, i can play online without lag, i really enjoy myself. So i ask you: What makes XBL so much better?

shungokustasu

You have to remember that the majority decision rules all. 360 runs this place, so what ever they decided is bad or not that's the rule. PS3 doesn't have games, XBL is better, PS3 is too expensive, and Sony is an arrogant company.

when the ps2 had 5 times more customers than the xbox, xbox live was STILL better than sony's online offering...

"majority decision" has nothing to do with reality.... and reality says xbox live is the benchmark..one that sony hasn't come close to matching...

I find it hard to believe that there are people that haven't played on XBL yet and have yet to see what the big deal or little deal is about it.

360 doesn't have an big  AAA game yet, think again (Gears of War) LOL AAA

360 is much faster if I were to download like a 1Gb file on PSN it would take like hrs and 360 its like 25mins.

Its so much easier to move to game to game on xbl.

xbl just has more content I know psn hasn't been out as long as 360 but 360 around that time still had way more content
