Are there plans for downloadable content through the PlayStation Network?
If we do anything, it's going to stand on its own. Unfortunately, we haven't revealed exactly how yet. Things are abuzz at the factory, but exactly how remains to be seen. That's exactly where we're at right now.

How much gameplay can gamers expect from Tools of Destruction?
We don't really talk about hours, because we see it more of a sandbox experience. It should be comparable to Going Commando. But there's huge replay value, and there's a replay plan. There's going to be developer commentary which we've never done before. We're doing it Infobox ****

How many worlds will players go through?
There are 18 worlds. Well, 15 worlds and 3 levels of space combat.

How many weapons can players find in the game?
Right now, there are 31.

How much space does Tools of Destruction take on the Blu-ray?
Right now we're compressing and working on the final build, but yesterday we can say we're at 22.4 gigs. And even with taking out the padding and localization, you wouldn't be able to fit the game on a DVD-9. We have 15 languages on the disc, which saves a lot of production money for Sony. About 40 percent of that is localization. Of course, if you the math, we still wouldn't be able to fit the gameon a DVD-9.

Will there be any Home integration with regards to the skill points?
That's a great question. To be honest, we haven't announced any Home plans at the time, but we're intrigued by it. We're looking at what we can do with it. But it's not like w'ere back at the shop doing our Home thing. We're still considering our options, and what makes sense.

The guys at Naughty Dog ended the Jak series, do you ever see yourself doing the same with Ratchet? Or, is it something you'll continue to work on?
Of course. The sales have been really good for us. Who doesn't want to continue exploring the universe in epic adventures? I think we'll be working oin the series for a long time.

epic has said that they might cut off some levels from the 360 version to fit it on dvd.also pgr4 does not have ingame weather changes because of limited disk space.but my friend told me that microsoft is working on a compression technology and it will be out in 2008.can anyone confirm this???

I can't wait for this game, but I'm guessing a large portion of this is due to having 12 languages on the disc, though this is impressive in and of itself.

Also, I think I remember them saying there are going to be a lot more pre-rendered movies this time around than there were in previous Ratchet games, so that may be part of it as well. However, the less compression they do, the better.

They probably used compression so they wouldn't have to spend more money to put the game on a dual-layer blu ray. Those things cost a lot.

I can for UT3, but don't have link atm. Also Epic said, that some of the maps that will be missing, will be available for download. for pgr4 i don't know and for your friend info, but I think I heard it also.

Id said RAGE uses 20gbs of textures and Kojima who works for a 3rd party developer said MGS 4 will be on a dual layer blu ray. And Rockstar said they see DVD 9 and lack of standard HDD as an obstacle.

"Now" you can't wait for this game, because the dialoque has been recorded in 15 different languages?

And how many do YOU speak?

They've also said the PS3 has it's fair share, but the funny thing is, it was reported that the 360 version was ahead in development compared to the PS3...

As for the in game weather changes for pgr4, I can't see how dvd9 has anything to do with that.

It's forerunner, Metropolis Street Racer (on Dreamcast) had some kind of weather system that was supposedly tied to what the weather was on that day, in that city, the year the game was developed, and would adjust time of day in game to whatever time the dreamcast's internal clock was currently at (and adjust to the correct time change for the city based on which time zone your system is in). Obviously, the 360 can achieve these two things as well.

On a related note, wouldn't it be sweet if a system could use it's broadband connection to find out what the weather is RIGHT THEN in whatever city you are racing in?

It's not Sony's excuse... Insomniac is an independent developer. Sony doesn't own them. They and Naughty Dog seem to be the only devs that view getting as many language as possible on to one disc as a priority, which I respect them for. I don't think Sony is touting having multiple languages on one disc as being important, but since all PS3s are region free, it would be nice to see more games that do that. It would make importing a lot easier.

People are complaining about the languages and you all live in the USA and only vaguely know what it means for a game to be localised. This could be sony's big winner. 40% off production cost is nothing to be sniffed at, It means this game can be launched work wide to a larger market. It could make the PS3 a big winner over in Europe, AU, Other countries (not USA or Japan) with the Xbox 360 and Wii version waiting for translation but the PS3 is all ready there.

360 and wii publishers can wait till all the versions are ready and then launch together, its not like ps3 translates the languages itself. they have to record all the dialogues and write all the text. but they have to wait till all versions are ready when 360/wii can publish english first and other languages when they are ready, or wait till all versions are ready and launch together.

Blue Dragon is quite linear though; Rage on the other hand features a massive free-roaming environment. A game which takes place in an open-ended world is very hard to put on 2 discs.

Could this game be done on DVD-9? Absolutely, without noticeable quality difference.

It's all in how it's compressed.

Does Blu-ray make it cheaper/easier for developers? Absolutely. But I don't care about that, since I'm not a developer.

In some cases, multiple languages can be of great benefit to customers. For example, many European people won't have to wait longer for their own localised version. Also, importing is made more convenient if you know whichever version you get, be it PAL, NTSC or NTSC-J, will cater to your language.

Audio takes up a HUGE amount of space. The game will probably have most of the areas shared between the two discs but have Difrent audio and timed events on only one each.

Of course. The sales have been really good for us. Who doesn't want to continue exploring the universe in epic adventures? I think we'll be working oin the series for a long time.

If you're talking about Rage, audio isn't the problem. The QuakeCon 07 demo alone apparently took up 20GB worth of texturing, and uses the second generation of id's "MegaTexture" technology. The environment will also be open-ended - a la Grand Theft Auto and Oblivion - so id will probably need to divide it up and have some areas on one disc and other areas on the other, like you say.

[QUOTE="thirstychainsaw"]Wait? Thats Sony excuse for Blu-Ray? We need it to fit all the languages into one disc? Idewmandew7

stop with the space trash talks already. they have 15 languages on that disc. like i give a damn about the other languages being on the disc. plus no one knows if they use the same type of compression. since they have more space they have less reason to use better compression right?
