Both of these are quotes from recent interviews about the opposite system. Phil Harrison says to GameDaily BIZ:

I think Nintendo, although I am very respectful of the innovation in Wii, and I think everybody should be respectful of it, I'm not sure that it has the technology base to propel that platform in the long-term. So I think their platform lifecycle is inherently going to be shorter, so they could have learned from us in terms of the high technology approach.

while Reggie Fils-Aime says to Spike TV:

First off, expensive device. Very expensive device. I believe that their proposition was on this being a cheap Bluray player. Well the fact is, I don't have a modivation to play Bluray. They've got some poor fundamental issues with their strategy, and that's their problem to sort through.

What do you guys think about these arguments?

Both think their own strategies are better. Bizarre....... However, Reggie isn't as respectful when it comes to competition.

I think Reggie's quote is pretty accurate. I think Sony misjudged their strategy. As far as Sony's view, a few months ago I would have likely agreed. I would have thought that the Wii wouldn't be able to compete on a large scale with the flashier consoles. The general public has taken to Wii amazingly well though, and it all depends on whether Nintendo can continue to keep people impressed with the Wii. The Wii's lifecycle length will likely be determined by how well it maintains the population's attention.

What? you thought reggie was respectful but Phil wasent? And, if your going to do this, you should probably say what question they were asked, phil was specificly asked what the other companies could learn from sony, but since nintendo is all knowing and has no faults, he of course should of said "nothing, they are our gods, they dominated us since we joined the console business and should learn nothing from us."

my take on wii as short run console- -I agree with the assumption but only if games on the other two consoles get radically better then they are now... --I disagree with the assumption but only if 3rd party developers step up for the console I think the wii should be able to last at least 4 years

I didn't find either comment to be out of line. Actually, it seems to me that each of them spoke in a rather professional manner. They didn't use any personal attacks and only spoke of business/product strategy which is not uncommon when someone is asked about such issues.

Don't you think that it would be a different story if the PS3 was performing a cleansweep on Wii's sales? Before the Wii released, Nintendo's new console was apparently beneath the notice of Sony execs.

What were they asked? Personally I have a feeling that Reggie will some day soon say something as blatantly foolish as Sony spokespersons have. He usually threads a fine line in interviews, and I can easily see him jumping of the edge and make a mackory of himself. But I dont care, I dont really see him as a gamer or someone I would listen too about games so much. Now if Iwata or Miyamoto did something like that, then I would be very upset.

There's been bad blood between Sony and Nintendo ever since their partnership went bad and Sony went off to create the PS1.

Sony's strategy is going off a bit off the rails recently especially in Europe and I'm not sure what they are going to do to fix that.

Nintendo's marketing is improving but it's still way off from where is should be.

About 65% of TV's in Japan are HDTV's and yet the Wii is doing well over there so I guess the console will be able to stay in the race for sometime.

I think that its interesting to note that nintendo execs were much more respectful of sony in interviews BEFORE the Wii and PS3 were released. Anyway, as to the questions, Phil Harrison was asked:

Can you name a few things about Nintendo and Microsoft that they may have done a better job at than Sony and a few things where perhaps they could improve and learn from Sony?

I didnt include the whole response, only the part where he talked about nintendo. The interview with reggie was a video interview and they didn't show the question, but it obviously is something along the lines of "What do you think of the PS3?"

I thought it was more obvious that they asked was something like "What do you think Sony did wrong with the PS3", since he starts of with "First off, expensive device..." But I didnt say anything since that would be a baseless opinion from me that dosent matter at all. But I hardly believe that a video interview only shows the respons of Reggie and not the question or voice-over of the reporter. Is thwe interview online, and if it is do you have a link?

Sony is proving Nintendo right.  The best selling system right now is the Playstation 2.  People into games enough to spend time on these forums are people who will pony up for an expensive system but the mainstream is more into the cheaper system with the cheaper games.

He was disrespectful in the interview and certinately more then Phil, and strangely enough they did not say what they asked. But suprisingly uninteresting video when you consider it contains Reggie (Nintendo), Phil Harrision (Sony) and Shane Kim (Microsoft, never heard of him but he is a Corporate VP at MGS)

Thats a fact.

Reggie is more of like the charging bull with a smart disposition... Kaz Hirai and Phil Harrison are more like the charging bulls with a blind sense of direction.
