After beating halo 3, i must say, i still barely even understand what the point in all of it was. Halo 3, has got to have one of the worser storylines in FPS's. Seriously, play Half-life, play portal, play Half-life 2 and its incredible episodes, play Prey for god's sakes, you'll actually have an attachment with the characters and environment. I felt very dissapointed at the end of halo 3. Am i the only one that feels this way?

Ending was abrupt, cryptic, and strange. Is that good?

Yes, it does. Is it a great one? No. But it's better than go through levels completely meaninglessly.

Here is flame shield*

arguements i've heard against this are usually backed by the books that i guess everyone should have read.(according to those who argue pro halo's story)

but thats stupid imo

The ending is the only thing I really like in the storyline it came out of no where not the whole saving the world but everything else.

For the TC most games don't have good storylines it is an added bonus(or a super bonus for HL2:P)

halo 2 had a better story, its a shame the campaign was disapointing. H3 had a better campaign but it was just one big chase the entire game.

It does have a story but Halo strong point is not the story.

I think the gameplay and it is online feature are what made Halo a great game.

It has a story, but it's comparable to that of a Michael Bay movie

Don't forget that the marine does go to hell that was the BIG turning point that changed up the gameplay.;)

Mabye because it's the ending to a trilogy? It ends the storyline, it doesn't start it.

Part of me really likes Halo's story, while the other part of me agrees with you that after the first Halo the storyline became increasingly difficult to follow. Personally I have an attachment to Master Chief, but this is more likely due to the books that it is to the Halo storyline. The book that got me hooked was the one that explored how the Spartans were chosen and created, but to each his own.

Portal was a sans story game. Why did you use it as a counter example?

It does have a story, and if you delve into it (just the games) it's a great story, but I agree that it's kinda hard to follow at times. Towards the end of Halo 3 I also got a strange feeling that bungie was rushing something. For the rest the halo story is pretty cool though.

Its not the story so much as the universe of the game. for Gods sake they made many BEst selling novels based of the halo universe. I liked the Ending of 3. It was kinda a "woh" moment for me and i did get goosebumps. I opens alot of doors for the next game (whatever that might be.)

The story is told pretty badly in the games even though it's 1/2 decent. Read the books I'd say if you really want to get some insight.

I liked Halo's story. Sure its not exactly Pulitzer material, but it got the job done. Some of you guys make it sound like you were expecting an Ayn Rand novel.

I thought it was great for the first 7 missions then they dropped the ball.

Its much better than most other shooters like Unreal(which is more or less a tutorial) or Resistance or Killzone

Much better than COD 4s which is so dang cliche(but the cinematics were cool)

Halo has a good story, Cortana is a likeable character IMO. THe music is awesome, the ending was good. I thought it was a good single player. Not the best, not the greatest, not amazing, but great in many ways, just it could have been better.

I didn't understand half of it either. It has a story, it just seems completely incomprehensible and trite.

jsut read the books and get to the terminals, thats where the story and fill are. The shooting part has nothing but drama between master chiefs goals and revenge and want to save cortona....so yeah. halo's books are great, but halo really has nothing in the story department imo..except for those terminals with 2 pages of story in each of the 12...but yeah, halos known for its great mp, addicting replay and now its great co-op and great aracde campagin mode added to it....so much replay!!! *drools*

I have 3 points to make.

  1. You couldn't understand the Halo 3 story? Are you serious, a simple, not very complex story and you had difficulty understanding it? Intelligent much? (if you haven't played the first two, boo hoo, why did you expect to understand the third in the trilogy)
  2. Worser? What does that even mean?
  3. Mentioning prey is so ridiculous i actually laughed. Prey has such a terrible story, with one of the worst main characters ever. When his girlfriend died, i really didn't care at all. When his grandfather died, again, no emotion. The only good thing about that game was the gameplay.
