the PS3 price drop even if Temporary showed the demand for the PS3 unit, even after Xbox 360 droped it's price it has moderatley improved sales, just imagine when the PS3 is at $299 it'll overshadow every other console. So if this was a Boxing match Xbox 360 and wii would win the first few rounds, but at the end of the match it'll be a unanimous decision.peacebringer
When the ps3 is $299 the xbox 360 will be $150 and Wii will be $79. That will be after this gen.

the Wii wouldn't ever have to go under $99, and the 360 will still have an elite and pro $199 or more. Sony's slick, they charge insane ammounts of money in the first years cause there planning on Mass Producing and selling cheap the second half, with the little profit MS is making they will never be able to mass Produce the 360 at a cheap price, the Wii just delayed there effort to create more room for mass producing there Wii, and your also forgeting about the power of the Sony brand. it's not just a Gaming Console.the PS3 price drop even if Temporary showed the demand for the PS3 unit, even after Xbox 360 droped it's price it has moderatley improved sales, just imagine when the PS3 is at $299 it'll overshadow every other console. I bet you think when the PS3 is $299.99 the 360 prem will be $349.99 still lol
link?JPOBSlook at last months this months and next Months NPD, tell me who sells more 360 or PS3(consoles) now tell me wich of those is getting Biochock, masseffect and halo 3 in the next coming months, it shows even without the best gaming libary PS is a strong brand. this shouldn't be a shock to veteran gamers who saw and said the same things about the Dramcast,GC and Xbox games, wich all eventually sold less than the PS2, argubaly, last gen the best games were on GC and xbox, yet they didn't manage to outsell the PS2. this gens no differant, it's obvious Sony puts all the features to make there machine appealing to consumers who wouldn't normally buy it, like a 35 year old Lawyer looking for a cheap Blue ray player, and later he buys a few games but owns hundreds of Blue Ray Movies.

no i didn't. but the PS3 sold more last month this month and will next month, when the 60 gigs and the 449 fly away, it will decrease in sales Significantly, but my poiint is the PS3 is a very attractive pruchase if you don't have goggles on. more people want it, but it's too costly, and they obviously are not buying anything, there waiting for the PS3, there not gonna buy a 360 cause it's got better games, they fixed on a PS3 and thats what they want. you must think everyone lives in america[QUOTE="peacebringer"][QUOTE="JPOBS"]link?musicalmaclook at last months this months and next Months NPD, tell me who sells more 360 or PS3(consoles) now tell me wich of those is getting Biochock, masseffect and halo 3 in the next coming months, it shows even without the best gaming libary PS is a strong brand. this shouldn't be a shock to veteran gamers who saw and said the same things about the Dramcast,GC and Xbox games, wich all eventually sold less than the PS2, argubaly, last gen the best games were on GC and xbox, yet they didn't manage to outsell the PS2. this gens no differant, it's obvious Sony puts all the features to make there machine appealing to consumers who wouldn't normally buy it, like a 35 year old Lawyer looking for a cheap Blue ray player, and later he buys a few games but owns hundreds of Blue Ray Movies.

nice you ask me how i know all this and tell me what if we get ate by zomebies in 2 years, um how do you know that? anyways i'm making a educated guess on something thats happen in the past, in the PS1 era, everyone said N64 had the best games, during the PS2 era people said in the start dreamcast was too good, the PS2 stood no chance, if you look at the games, PS1 and PS2 don't have the best games of there respective gens(Ocarina of Time,Golden EYE 007,perfect Dark)(Halo,Metroid Prime) Sony never had the best Gamess of there era, they just have alot of good ones. this is what makes it so attractive,The PS3 60gig price cut was probably more market research than anything, Sony wanted to clear out the 60gig inventory and they know they need to drastically cut the PS3's price, but either don't know what amount or they don't think they can afford a $100 price cut across the board. After posting that ludicrous 2 billion dollar loss in their last fiscal year Sony execs have to be worried about losing more money, but they also know they need to sell more PS3's or else they'll be in the same position as the xbox last gen. So from what I've seen they saw the 60 gig as the perfect tool to see how the market would react to a price cut.
The 360's price cut shows three things, that MS is confident in their product, they are not attempting to directly compete with the Wiiand that they are expecting a significant PS3 price cut in the near future. The small price cuts to the various SKU's showMS doesn't believe that they need a major price cut to continue their success, especially with their 2007 lineup. It also shows they do not plan on competing directly with the Wii. Considering the 360 was making an estimated profit of around $70-80 last November per unit sold, MS is in a position to make a $100+ price cut on each SKU and still make a profit per unit sold. This would have placed their SKUs at the $199, 299 and 379 price points, meaning they would have been able to undercut the Wii's pricepoint. Because they didn't, it would appear that MS is taking the generally accepted stance that the Wii is not in direct competition with the 360 and PS3. Finally, that ability to sustain a $100+ price cut shows that MS is expecting another price cut to the PS3 in the near future. By only dropping the price $50 (or even less on the core and elite models) MS has left Sony with the opprotunity to significantly undercut the 360's price (at least on apercieved value level, meaning while the PS3 may still be more expensive, it would seem like a better value), so in my estimationMS is sort of keeping a "reserve" price cut to make sure they maintain a significantly lower price point than the PS3.

The PS3 will NEVER be $299 this gen....

i dont see how the current ps3 is ever going to drop to $300 anytime soon i mean they have stopped making the 60gig versions so the 80 gig version has to go from $600 to $300 thats a 50% price reduction maybe not for another 2-3 years besides the price advantage is kinda negated since every time ps3 drops 360/wii will drop...

i can see the PS3 for $299 before 2010My take is. . .There is a lot of demand for the PS3, but most people can't afford or will not pay 600 bucks for a console. Dropping the price just a hundred bucks spiked sales significantly proving that the demand exists for the sony branded machine. All told the PS3 is a good value but seems to be out of the price range of most consumers right now.
The 360 price cut was kind of weak. If they would have answered with a $100 price cut on all of their lineup I believe the PS3 would have been in big trouble. By only making a $50 cut or less I believe they have left the door open for Sony whose console isn't that much more then the Elite currently. Now if Sony does not cut the price of the 80 gig sku after the 60's run outI will be a little shocked. It will be like Sony went and closed the door that microsoft left open. If Sony does go ahead and drop the price of the 80 gig sku to $500 then Microsoft must counter with a significant drop.
Nintendo on the other hand can't keep the system on store shelves at $250. I can't see them cutting the price anytime soon. They do need to be careful however because as the 360 price inches closer and closer they might find some competition. I think the biggest point the Wii makes is price is king. With less specs and really only one thing (motion sensing controls) different from the "competition", The Wil is quickly on its way to be the best seller this generation.
It will probably be 2 years before we really know who the Winner is, Price cuts will be the key to deciding the victor.
