Hi Everyone,

I am thinking of buying a console for my home and I am stuck at the moment in deciding whether to go for a PS3 or an XBOX.

After reading a lot of forums about the technical aspects of both the consoles, I am more confused :s

I am basically looking for a console with

1. Good game title collection

2. Backward compatiility with games

3. Good graphics

Many forums talk about XBOX having better graphics but stability, noise, no HD/BluRay is a concern.

On similar lines PS3 has not-so-good graphics (in terms of tech specs) but other system performance is amazing.

Did anyone face a similar problem before buying? Can you help?

1. Both consoles have a great selection of games its a matter of personal preference 2. PS3 is backwards compat with Ps1 games and depending on model ps2. 360 is for the most part not backwards compat with xbox games but some may work. 3. PS3=360 in graphics in specs, it really depends on the developers and how they push the console, notice how Killzone 2 has the best graphics on consoles well its because the developers are really pushing graphics. Neither console really has better graphics GPU. Its a matter of personal preference, I have both consoles and I enjoy them greatly, but I know this doesn't really help you when it comes to picking one of the two. I would say PS3, because their 2009-2010 line up are amazing, however thats my opinion, so I suggest you go online look up games and make a list of titles on both consoles

Good Game Title Selection

Well, it would depend on what you like really, but i'd say the 360 has a better selection overall. In about 2 years, the PS3 might comeback, but until then...

Backwards

360. Most PS3's don't even have Backwards for PS2.

Graphics

As of right now, most games are the practically the same graphics-wise, but I will admit, the PS3 has more power to up the graphics in the future.

Final?

I'd have to go for 360.

I'd first try and find an old 60gig ps3. If you can get one of those then your set for backwards compatibility. If not then I guess Xbox360 is your choice (yah a cow just really said that).

I have both and I play the PS3 a lot more. They both share a lot of multiplats, and good ones but when it comes to exclusives PS3 > 360, for me. I like the fact that you are not forced to pay to play online. If you were to get a PS3 I would recommend to get an early 80GB. I still see some around but I'm not sure for how much longer. They can play PS2 games and all models can play PS1 games. Doesn't matter what you get though since some of the best games this gen are multiplat.

Both machines are excellent in there own way, ps3 has the bluray drive and extra processors for upscaling and great graphics, however it is let down by the controller and the online gaming side of it. Also sony have just released there own headset and keypad for the controllers, which the xbox has had for ages. the 360 has the online gaming down but you do have to pay. But you can have party chats which is awsome for the likes of COD 4 and 5. Even though the ps3 has more processors they all aint used and omparing the graphics from 360 to ps3 is just splitting hairs.

IMO go for the 360, you get everything u need for online play right in the box including branded headset and a better controller. =}

You should get PS3 the graphics are top notch and better then the competition imo and the games are incredible.

Metal Gear Solid 4(GOTY), Little Big Planet, Uncharted, Resistance 1&2, Killzone 2, Warhawk, Motorstorm, Valkyre Chronicles, Socom.

the games to come seal it's future God of War 3, Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, Twisted Metal, White Knights Chronicles, LA Noire, Gran Turismo 5, Quantom Theory, Under Siege, Final Fantasy XII Versus, inFAMOUS plus the multiplatform

as far as BC PS3's 60 gig can play PS1 games the 80 gig can play PS1 and PS2 games.

As an added bonus you get Blue Ray which is a nice add-on I recently bought one of my favorite movie in Blue Ray "Rambo First Blood" the quality is amazing you can actually see wrinkles and pinples on the actors faces it's very high tech

I highly advice for the PS3 especially now with Killzone 2 on the horizon which is the best looking fps on consoles and already has 1.1 mil pre-orders in eu alone.

1 both consoles have good games

2 PS3 can play all PS1 and PS2 games but u would have to buy 160gb model, x360 cant play all the xbox games

3 both have good graphics

it all comes down what exclusive games u like Killzone 2 or Halo 3

but i always recommend the PS3 becouse the x360 has hardwear problems, so u need to know what exclusive games u are interested more

Well in our house we have a PS3, (3) 360's and a Wii, I can safely say that both of the consoles that you are pondering are good in their own ways. Here are the finer points of both Imo...

PS3...$399 price point gets you...

80 GB model

BluRay player

Built-in WIFI

Wireless Sixaxis controler with built in battery that only needs to be recharged. No batteries or battery packs to buy EVER!!

*spend $20 on a HDMI cord if you have a HDTV as the PS3 only comes with basic connections

*you'll need to buy a Bluetooth headset like the ones you use with a cell phone. Again, you can get a decent one for about $40-50

Free Online play on PSN

Exclusives for 2009...Killzone 2(demo was very short, but this game is going to be epic. Nothing compares on 360 to this game)

Uncharted 2..The first one was amazing if you like the Tomb Raider type stuff. Again a visual stunner!

Gran Turismo 5...Will be the crown jewel of racers for a long time

Heavy Rain...A story driven mystery/thriller type game in the vein of Shenmue, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Max Payne type stuff

XBOX 360 Pro...$299 gets you

60 GB model

XBOX Live headset

Wireless XBOX 360 controler that requires batteries or the purchase of a $40 rechargeable battery pack

basic and component connections

XBOX Live will run you $50 a year and outside of some small differences, doesnt offer a better playing experience over the FREE PSN

You'll need to buy a $100 WIFI adapter unless you intend to hook your 360 directly into your modem for online play

Exclusives for 2009...Halo Wars...Halo in RTS fashion. The demo was alot of fun and the full game should be awesome.

Halo ODST...Halo 3 told from a different perspective that that of the adventures of Master Chief

Alan Wake...A mystery/thriller type game

I cant think of anymore exclusives to the 360, but there are some promising games coming out.

PS3 exclusives are definitely unmatched graphically. I mean, games like MGS4, Uncharted, Killzone 2.

And TC, you don't want to pay whenever you you want to play online. At least you get free online with the PS3.

360 has more games now, PS3 has the stronger lineup for this year. It's also more expensive than the 360 but the online is free. The 360 has limited BC while PS3 has complete PS1 BC but not PS2.

PS3. ps3 graphics are better than 360, and they will only improve, whereas 360 has reached its limit. ps3 has bc with ps1, (enjoy allllll those ps1 games), plus ps2 on some models. ps3 has blu ray player. ps3 is cheaper (these are the costs 360 owners dont tell u about but u will eventually have to dish out - batteries, charger, monthly subcription to play online, network adapter (or something along those lines if u want to play online). where as the ps3 has none of these extra costs. ps3 has better exclusives. ps3 has 6 cpus, 360 has 1. ps3 has a better controller (which charges with the system with the INCLUDED cable). ps3 will have alot of downloadable games (games that are classics in their own right, before an xbox ever even existed). ps3 looks nicer, sounds nicer, and feels nicer. ps3 has bigger hard drives, and easily replaceable slot for them (xbox doesnt - another potential future cost) ps3 has a load of upcoming games that are potential classics that 360 doesnt have (final fantasy versus 13 - just to name an example) ps3 is a year newer than 360. ps has a greater history. ps3 has a better user interface. ps3 is shiny. that is all.

Your logic is flawed in so many ways. Yes, when you are talking out of the box, the PS3 is more expensive, but if you buy the 360 Pro for $299 and then pay your initial $50 for a XBL online account and unless you are going to either place your 360 right next to your PC modem or have a love of running Cat5 cable 50 feet across or under carpet, you'll have to buy a $100 WIFI adapter whereas the PS3 has WIFI built in. Now, lets compare....PS3 80 GB $399.....................360 Pro 60 GB $449 and then throw in PS3 has BluRay as the icing on top!

dude ur logic is lacking too...u forgot u need batteries and a charger to even begin playing.....so the 360 pro (with a smaller hard drive if i may add), will actually cost 499, batteries not included

Not this again  I agree about the added cost of XBL but for most people the wifi adapter isn't essential. (It was for me, but that's not the point) Oh, and the PS3 doesn't come with a HD cable so it's really $420 vs $350 once we add the HD cable and XBL.

Plus, you'll need a headset for the PS3. Add another $30-$50 to that PS3 total.

1. The 360 has a greater catalog of games. From coming out first, and its game prices go down in price faster than the PS3.

2. The PS3's on the market now are not B/C with the PS2. Some say PS1.....but common since your third question is on gfx, you are most likely not going to play PS1 games on the PS3.

3. They are on the same level.

The battery and charge cable for the 360 is $20, not $50. Also, with the PS3 controller, what are you going to do when the lithium-ion battery wears out? They don't last forever you know. Instead of getting a new battery pack for $10 like with the 360, you'll have to spend $54.99 for a new controller. Both companies are gonna get you somehow.

Hey guys, Thanks a lot for some amazing insights about PS3 and Box. I guess I will be buying a PS3, I am more convinced about that machine. :)
