[QUOTE="AmazonTreeBoa"][QUOTE="Oil_rope_bombs"] Games aren't even about story. While they give an incentive and can be a nice "add-on" to the game sometimes, the gameplay is what actually matters. And Dark souls does an excellent job at it. No problem if you still don't buy the game because of your close-mindedness though, not a loss for anyone but you. :)sts106mat
Your attempt to insult only shows your ignorance. No story in an RPG is stupid and will not be purchased by me umad. Deal with it and press on junior. i agree with this actually, RPG's really should have a story. i think its the apparent lack of a story why many people conside dark souls to be a hack and slash. and @oil_rope_bombs, gameplay is not always the most important part for everyone. case in point, Mass Effect, the first game was great, and i enjoyed the second, but the gears of war style didn't work for me, i found myself willing each battle to hurry up and end so i could get to the next dialogue option and progress the story. the first game featured a much more tactical approach to the battling and it made them more interesting at the same time has having a very interesting story. I was a massive fan of ME and mass effect 2 I enjoyed for the most part, when part 2 came out, i laughed at the people complaining about it being stripped back and thought "get over it", but after finishing the game, i realised that they were right. i am seriously worried that ME3 will be gears 3 with dialogue choices. dont get me wrong i enjoy gears, but i would take ME1 over the 3 gears games anyday. Another example, dragon age, the first games story was slow and boring but the gameplay was good. the second games story was more interesting (IMO) but the gameplay was awful after a while. i found myself in the same way with ME2, rushing the battles to get to the talking. I don't think they should. Like I said, a story in a game is not necessary. Games like Mario prove that. People don't consider Dark Souls to be a hack n' slash just because it doesn't have a story. DMC has a story, and it's still a hack n' slash. Instead, it's because from most videos they see the people playing the game they play it as if it were a hack n' slash (Which, mind you, is not a good way to play the game) so that's just what they assume.
But for me, it isn't. As I've said before, I consider gameplay most important. But then again, everyone has their own tastes. It's just that I don't like it when people try to define what each genre should have. It's just your opinion, not a fact. In my opinion, gameplay should be the core thing in a game, but an added story will also be great. I'm not gonna say X genre should also have a Y feature in it, otherwise the games which are called by X genre that lack Y feature aren't true X genre games.
Well, didn't really play the Mass Effect so I assume they're supposed to focus on the story. So if the first game was focused on story, while the second game was more focused on gameplay , you would prefer the story instead due to the influence of the first game so you'd wish the story to progress faster and want less gameplay. (Note: All of this is my assumption, take it with a grain of salt. :P)
Naturally, I expect the same from the Souls game. Demon's Souls was more focused on gameplay instead of story, and if Dark Souls was more focused on story then I'd rather skip most of the dialogue/cutscenes/whatever to get to the gameplay as quickly as possible.
