What was the worst video game related betrayal?

We know, they're businesses, and as such, their main goal is to make as much as possible, for the survival of the company and to feed themselves. But that still doesn't mean their old long time fans can't be mad at them. :|

Forgive me if the poll doesn't have the best options as I don't know all betrayals as I was not an informed gamer for that long. And forgive me if there is no poll as sometimes when I make a poll it doesn't show. Was it...

1. When Bethersda made Elder Scrolls 4 more of a console action game, with many broken promises and ruining the lore (for more info:see here). I was not a long time Bethersada fun but it seems the worst thing they did was ruining the lore IE: The king was in good health before he died, the dark elves have bright and loving personalities like everyone else, no legal restrictions on dwarven armor(which is illegal in TES lore).

2. Ion Storm dumbing down and revamping Deus into a typical linear console FPS (which was far below Halo's quality, BTW).

3. Epic who slowed down and returned UT so it could be on consoles? (And ironically, it did bad on all three platforms! :P)

Or was it something else entirely?

They did rape deus ex, but I think Bethesda with F3 is probably the worst.

I don't like the term betraya eitherl because a) it's not correct. Just because one may not like how something turned out doesn't mean they were betrayed b) using the word betrayed makes one sound like he or she has an entitlement complex.

Betrayal? You mean change of direction you don't like. People like to dramatise everything. It's not as if someone developed a video game that was actually a blank disc and then ran off with all your money.

You're wrong about the word 'last'. The word last is used to imply the latest, most recent, here in the present, without consideration of the future because in that case, nothing would ever be the last, as there would always be something coming after it, which is the loophole you're trying to revolve your argument around.

I think the only ones that count are series that used to be on one console, then not only does the latest game get on another console, it's exclusive to that console. That sucks IMO. Activison is pretty much about to do this with Sony.

I wouldn't exactly call it "betrayal", since I am not PC Gaming, but Unreal Tournament 3 really did suck compared to the previous ones in the series. They took one of the fastest paced, reflex intensive, vertically based FPS series ever and turned it into basically afirst person Gears of War without a cover system. It's so slow and cumbersome, removing the insane jumps got rid of a lot of intensity, and the weapons look ridiculously stupid. Epic should be ashamed of themselves.

Guild Wars 2 is going to be a bad betrayal (they are removing most of the skills, which means all characters are going to be generic).

I hate to seegreat PC franchisesbecomes dumbed down and slow so they work on consoles.
