For those who remember megadrive v snes; saturn v psone or what ever what was your favouite war.

Mine would have to be the saturn v psone, the saturn was the console I ever owned that get totally owned and I didn't own a psone for a while and I remember being the only kid with a saturn and having to defend my purchase. Still think it was better for the 1st and 2nd generation games on the system.

Genesis vs SNES: because Sega does what Nintendon't. The ad campaigns were great for this battle. And of course it produced SOnic.

Second Place: Colecovision vs Atari 2600 because it produced the Gemini which was actually MY first console. I loved that system back in the day.

Though technically not a console war the amstrad v commedore v spectrem one was brill. As the the same game could be released 3 times and would be diffrent each time.

there was really only 1 system war i can think of. Genesis vs SNES in 16bit wars. the original NES, Playstation, PLaystation 2 dominated their era, wasn't much of a war.

That's the only war that mattered.Sega were by far the best competitor Nintendo ever had. They were the only ones who could match or even surpass Nintendo when it came to imaginative and great titles

They were also slightly edgier than Nintendo

DS vs PSP is so far my fav still. kittykatz5k

that's less of a war and more of a massacre

I have always loved both of them and it a dream come true now that both of them are working together. In fact my Son is playing Sonic on the Wii right now beside me man that game looks nice.

Plus don't forget they both were 100% gaming companies. People were fans of the companies themselves and their gaming philosophies, rather than only fans of their consoles, as it it nowadays.

I think what you find with most older gamers (not these 13 year old "Gangstas" who play rubbish games like "fiddy cent") is that Sega and Nintedo are basically held up as the only real examples of gaming companies. they're not seens as faceless and as cold as the likes of Sony and Microsoft

I've also found that Sega have achieved amost legendary status over the past few years as their output continues to wow gamers years after they quit the hardware market. Titles like Nights, Streets of Rage, Panzer Dragoon Sage and Jet Set Radio are still held amongst the best games ever made by more knowlegdeable gamers

I maintain they were by far the best and strongest competitor Nintendo ever had because they were the only ones with the knowledge and skill to go toe to toe with Nintendo.

Genesis and SNES was by far the best, due to the fact theat they were neck in neck the whole race. That was a great example of how consumers benefit from competion, Nintendo and Sega were hungry as wolves for market share and did a great job of supporting their own platforms and had a pretty even and extremely fun battle. On the other hand the Saturn vs, PS1 and later N64 days were heartwrenching. For a huge former Sega fan like myself those were some tough times. I remember always defending my choice of a Saturn over an N64, everyone making fun of "Panzy Dragon" (URGE TO KILL RISING), and trying to convice people that NiGHTS was a work of art (It's just a video game, isn't it?).

But even that cannot compare to the suffering and torment I went through during the death of the Dreamcast. Also known as the death of the golden age of console gaming which began with the NES. I think the biggest reason for that, outside of the shift into mainstream gaming was going through, was the obsession with graphics. AS far as I could tell, nobody barely gave a damn about graphics until the PS2-Xbox-GC battle. That was the first time I had ever seen consoles specs compared side by side and picked apart by fans as well as journalists. All the hype of how the PS2 was going to crush the DC with game that barely looked any better, blah blah blah, yeha the PS2 had better visuals and DC supporters were constantly reminded of it. Then the Xbox rolls in and suddenly "graphics don't matter" where the hell was that logic a year ago you self-decieving cowards. Comfort yourself with whatever BS you can to hide the fact your afraid to jump onto a platform that isn't instantly accpeted and loved by all your friends and co-workers. Does conformity influence what platfrom you buy, or downright control it? Now we have these absurd direct graphic comparions on GS that only add fuel to the fire and makes things worse, further putting the focus on graphics and resolutions over substance, art, and self-expression.

And this is coming from someone who thinks the GC should have won the last battle, not because I am a Nintendo fanboy, but for the same reasons I loved the DC, with the exception of online gaming. And for this generation I am once again rooting for ol' Nintendo since I really enjoy the games they put out, but when it comes down to it, who really gives a damn what company made the box you play games on.

That is incorrect. Actually the 16-bit era has been the most graphic whoring era of them all.

Systems showcasing their power on the boxes, almost all games wearing their MEG power as medals, and always promoting their graphics before anything on their ads.

Gaming mags also always put how many MEGS every game had on their reviews. Nintendo spending all that money to develop their FX chip, SEGA with their 32X, everyone trying to make you believe they had the most powerful system of them all.

The perception that no one cared about graphics before is very incorrect, the industry cared about graphics during the 16-bit era unlike in any other.
