Now that I think about it, what did blowing in the cartidges do? Clean out dust? I use to blow on the cartridge till the point it sounded like a train whistle.
Mine was 2600, but the first console I played was NES in 1988, I got the 2600 sometime in 1985 or 1986, but I was born in 1986 so the first one I played was the NES.

Yup,the main problem was the game would get the dust from the slot,the most logical (and cheapest) solution back then was blowing that sucker until it worked.
