My first console was the NES in 1992, with the first game being Ice Hockey. But I actually started playing games on the MAC Plus in 1991 with my very first game ever called Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (almost like a SNES with black and white graphics). I think at this point I'll be playing games forever, especially since my career revolves around games.
NES was the first console my family bought, I haven't bought a console for myself at all, except the DS. But I've had a NES, SNES, N64, Xbox and Xbox 360.
Although I was pretty young when I had the NES. I only remember a couple games, in which I had no idea what to do, and I remember dieing like 1000 times in some ninja turtle game. Everything after that I remember pretty clearly.
Nintendo NES - 1988. Parents purchased it for my sisters when I was born in 88, was later the first system I ever played - within probably 6 months to a year I had played Mario. lol.
I started with an Intellivision, but I wasn't really a gamer at the time, and I didn't get another console until the N64, around the time that Majora's Mask was released.
I still have like 30-40 Intellivision games, its just the attached controllers don't work. I need to find a cheap eBay auction soon, since its the only console in my collection that does not work, and that irritates me.

Lucky you. I went through two of them, they were already antiques when I got them so they had some real problems with dust.
First family owned console was the Sega Megadrive, first console I owned was PS1, then GC, now Wii. My family don't like games any more, I try to get my Dad to play stuff but anything except the Megadrive confuses him too much.
The first console I ever played was my neighbor's N64 but the first one I owned was a PS1 which I got soon after the PS2 came out. I was only six so I took advantage of the cheaper system. =)

Christmas 1976, my mother bought my brother and me a Coleco Telstar. It was a Pong knockoff with four variations: Tennis, Jockey, Handball, Jai Alai. Multiplayer made it a great system. She also bought us an Atari 2600 and an Apple //c, later obviously.
First dedicated system I ever bought on my own was the NES in 1990. I had also purchased a Commodore VIC-20 and a Commodore-64 with my hard-earned paper route money.
Well ever since I was like 2-3 I played those "educational" pc games. But the first real console I played was my dad's PS1 (Which I eneded up playing more, Spyro, Gran Turismo, and Crash Bandicoot ftw!)
But the first gaming console that was mine was a Gameboy Color in 98 with Pokemon Yellow, and then the next year for christmas I got my first real console a Dreamcast. (The GC, then PS3 but that's not the point of this thread :D)
NES, I remember throwing my bag right into my dad's face everytime I came home from school and didn't even ask wether he finished watching the news. Good times. ;B
